I left my cameras out all year. I moved 2 of them to the new food plots I just planted so I could keep an eye on what if any frequent the plots. Here is a couple of pics from the cards that were in the cameras before I moved them. The buck in the front is the same in both pics, but the rear deer is 2 different bucks. 1 has a drop tine on his right side!5 points

I did some long range scouting tonight and watched 4 bucks come into the beans. 3 of them were nice enough to have their picture taken.5 points

Yuengling Black & Tan. Been years since I had one of these. Was on sale so figured WTF, why not. After I poured it some ugly guy broke in and took my favorite hat and glass. Luckily he stopped long enough to strike a pose for the g/f so I know who to look for. LOL!3 points

I'd let it go, at least for now. It's not about being weak or meek, it's about being the better person. It would probably be a good idea to introduce yourself to the neighbor, and try to get an idea where he's coming from, and assess his character. Being on good terms with the guy might be a big advantage to you, especially if you don't live in the area. I have neighbors that I let hunt on my property, provided I'm not hunting there that day, and they give me the same respect regarding their land. It's just deer hunting, not life & death issues. I also have a neighbor that takes the hard-nose approach, it's hurt him at least once that I know of, since he's made it very clear nobody is allowed to cross onto his land. He called me asking for permission to look for a deer that ran on my place, I asked him if he was now giving me permission to go onto his property; he wouldn't say yes, so I told him to pound sand.3 points

I made my decision. The g/f said sleep on it and we would talk in the morning. She would have had no problem with me buying the bow. I just can't. As new and first time home owners, we have already dropped $1500 on appliances that were out dated and didn't work. That's why I had to get the Sears card to begin with. Long story short. If things break in our house it's up to us to get them fixed. I have to get my savings back up ( both of us do ) and pay off some debt incurred with our purchase. Should have never even posted this thread. It was the excitement of being able to do something, then realizing it's not a realistic time to do it. Sorry folks.3 points

By chance my wife and I caught a couple neat sunsets this weekend. We had a pizza and a couple cold ones in Wilson at the Woodcock Brewery Friday night then a small get together at a friends place on Lake Erie at Sturgeon Point last night. Too much GREAT food and drink forced an unwanted bike ride this morning on the Clarence bike path. Sorry no pics of that, I looked like a circus act................. Wilson Pier......... Correct me if I'm wrong but, I see the "science" saying it has an affect IF it is consumed by raptors, IF they eat a POSSIBLY contaminated gut pile, POSSIBLY left in the woods by a hunter. The only actual dead raptors found that can be traced to the source of their toxins show a deer processor was the source. Obviously a large amount of deer gut piles in an open dumpster would attract raptors and probably have a high concentration of lead from bullets in it. I didn't see any CONCLUSIVE evidence of any dead raptor being traced to the source of a hunter's gut pile. I see leaps of presumption in that direction based on speculation. I'm not saying any raptor hasn't died from a hunter's gut pile. I'm saying there is no proof as of this date as far as I can see. Therefore I am against putting the burden of the bulk of the problem on the backs of hunters when regulating the processors is more effective and simpler. The same thing can be said about proof that a hunter's consumed venison was PROBABLY contaminated if it was killed with a typical copper jacketed hunting bullet. I see no "science" of anyone randomly going to a hunter's house and randomly taking a tenderloin from their freezer and testing it to see if it is contaminated. Therefore the "science" and it's conclusions remain open to question. Am I wrong here? Who can be sure this fish doesn't have lead split shot in it?2 points

I have talked about it before I have a stand that is 3 foot from my neighbors stand that I sit in every opening day of southern zone. It's not in a spot that I would ever hunt but it keeps him honest. I actually kind of enjoy it now he's an old curmudgeon but brings me snacks and I always have something for him. He will shoot the first buck he sees and I'll help him drag it to his truck. This all started when I watched him shoot one out of my field opening morning so I was pissed and hung my stand in the next tree over and he was pissed but he hasn't shot anything on me since and now it's something we look forward to. It was pouring out so I shot out the back door, it's 22yds. It finally slowed down enough to go get my arrow. I really need my 2nd insert of the year for my target. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

That is one thing for sure, I will be having at least one or two friendly conversations with him... Probably won't even bring up the stand the first time we speak... If I do it won't be right away.. I truly only have 25 acers and there is some town land that touches my places as well... The big problem is that this stand really is in the perfect places it's at a saddle in a ridge Line that catches all deer movement due to a funnel. Let's also be clear that even if the stand is on his land he would have max 5 feet to shoot on his own property... Any way I will try my best to make him a friend and not a enemy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

But we are not talking about other states, and I don't believe that bowhunters are the only ones who are "selective". I do believe that bowhunters are the easiest to intimidate and steam-roller over. I do believe that the DEC is cognizant of the fact that they might be faced with a fecal-storm of enormous proportions if they mess with the gunner's seasons in such similar ways, and so bowhunters make an easier target. I also believe that the final phase of their motives is to set up further precedents of firearms in bow seasons in preparation for future incursions.2 points

Tough call for sure. First you have to get the property before you have to make any tough calls. Make sure to get the land plotted out so you know the lines 100%. If the owner now gave this fella the Ok to hunt then thats prob why that stand is there, For you to boot him will be your call. Tough to do at times, If you have plenty of other stand spots then maybe let him slide with him knowing your wishes of what size or how many animals he can kill on your property that he is shooting the deer on.2 points

Ok first shot today at 25 yards low and left....something deff not right since I was concentrating on form and remembered to remove my verifier for my peep sight from my 3d rig and place it in my hunting bows peep..... So I get to thinking and remember I set my hunting pins at 15, 25, 35.....not 25,35,45. That's why I was low at 25 yesterday and low again today. So I took a second shot at 25 with the correct pin and drilled my spot! Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk2 points

Geeze Tom. Spoken like someone that wants access to land I paid for and continue to pay taxes on annually. I am sorry I am impeding your hunting by not letting you on. Good news though, you can go buy your own parcel with your own money and let the world on if you choose. Or just hunt the thousands of acres of public land that are already available to those that choose to use their money on other things. Perhaps you should have the right to my truck also to haul your deer out. C'mon. Are you serious?2 points

I remember reading that. That's something that sucks and sticks with you. I appreciate the offer Jeremy. If I had nothing to hunt with I would take that offer. I have my deer rifles and both areas I plan to hunt this year are high probability for DMP's. If you want to give it to someone it should be to someone who wants to get into hunting but can't afford to.1 point

I've no issue with stands on the line as long as they shoot onto their land . Now when we first went rifle here, first we noticed truck tracks driving around a hay field, owner of land asked me to put up more posted signs , which I did. Then more tracks , and they went right to a "point" that would allow a rifle to cover the width of our whole field . Next a large shooting shack went up on stilts with the only opening looking right across the field at my ladder stand on the other side of the field ..... we had a talk with that guy who actually denied building it at first! He never got to sit there once. your case you already got lots of good advice , good neighbors are worth their weight in gold, he could be a great guy who had permission prior .1 point

Just thought to share with all you baseball fans and also because im a proud dad. Heres my 12 yr. Old son who was chosen based upon his ability and grades to attend a clinic with only 17 other kids throughout NY . Clinic was held at LIU, kids spent 4 hours being trained by Hideki Matsui "Godzilla". heres a couple pictures of my boy pitching to Hideki, he also hit off of Hideki, was also interviewed by a japanese new station, and at the end Hideki signed baseballs for the kids. Last picture is of my 8 yr old who i brought along to watch. They both play travel baseball and are both lefties, so proud of them both and a great experience for all.1 point

Lots of great advice here. Definitely leave the tops, as mentioned they'll help protect seedlings. Sounds like sanctuaries and hunting trails leading to the big fields would be the way to go.1 point

Isn't this earlier than in the past? Seemed to be ~2nd Monday in August the past several years. Whatever...! Always was a sort of mile-marker for the approaching deer season for me. Let the countdown begin to Oct 1st.1 point

So you don't hunt in NY anymore? Times have changed, a lot! People sue if you spill coffee on their new shoes. Most hunters are good people and if they got hurt on your land, they would take the responsibility for that. Some, ( dare I go there? ) would sue the crap out of you for getting a rip in their pants, or your tree put a mark on the new climber. If you want to open your land to the public, have at it! Don't whine when some looser sues you and takes said land. As for the people that bought their land, post the $*** out of it, and don't allow other hunters on it? It's their land! Respect that and move along. Why do so many people on here lately insist on telling other people what ammo to shoot, what deer to shoot, what to do with the land they paid for, and all the other agendas? Stop telling people what to do!1 point

I'm not sure where you are going with this. Wildlife does belong to the state and is managed by the state. That is why all hunters, even those hunting on their own land, have to abide by state regulations and seasons. Having food growths on private land is not illegal nor is it unethical. It's a method for keeping a healthy deer population in certain regions. Salt-licks and certain types of "bait" are illegal as per DEC rules. If you think having food sources on your land constitutes a violation, then we would need to shut down all agricultural activity in this state; there is a reason why deer densities are much higher in western NY versus the Northern Zone. So keeping hunters off of private land now counts has "hunter harassment?" How so?1 point

Airedale is correct as usual. Any commercial factory loaded ammo will be fine. Since the 30-40 Krag was never loaded with black powder, all rifles chambered in it are designed for modern smokeless powder loads. As long as the rifle is in good condition, it should be safe to fire with any factory loads. the only way you could get in trouble would be if you tried to hotrod it with hot handloads to turn it into something it was never designed to be. The 30-40 is an excellent deer cartridge and has laid low many an elk and moose, too. Enjoy your Grandaddy's rifle.1 point

Science is what they want you to believe and fits an agenda at times. This kinda makes me think of the CWD in the Urine hoax that so called Science uses. They can take a needle and inject the CWD prion into deer urine and then inject a mouse with that same urine and the mouse becomes positive. BUT after how many thousands of deer tested and many were CWD positive at the brain stem and the Nodes but there has never been a whitetail to be found with the CWD prion in their urine? I would be real careful what science you believe in. In this case its a small little part of a real big agenda and that is to get rid of hunting altogether!1 point

I haven't seen any bucks larger than a spike or small 4 point yet this year and was getting worried about the "local inventory". This was the first pic on last night's card pull. Happy to see him! I'm fairly sure that this is the same one I've been watching for the third year now. We have a bit of history. See you in the fall, big boy!. BTW, the pic was from 7/11, so he's still growing a bit since this pic.1 point

I recently put a couple of cams up on a friend's property in hopes of finding a target to go after in the early season. I actually killed my buck here last year on October 2nd. This year the field was planted in alfalfa and I thought it would be a deer magnet. Needless to say, the crop has been struggling with the dry conditions. Hopefully, it will start taking off with the rain we just had and what we are supposed to get over the weekend. Anyways, nothing huge has turned up yet but about 12 different bucks on the cams so far... Borderline shooters...think both are one year away from being tagworthy. Not sure if this is a different buck? Extreme closeups...1 point

Selling a bunch of archery stuff on archery talk but figured I would post this bow here. It's in great condition and a very quiet, vibration free shooter. Fast too. Includes k-tech string stop, matching side plates, sling and peep. I have both 30" and 28" mods for it happy to install either for the buyer. $495tyd with the QAD HDX rest or $440 without. It's a good deal in my opinion. Will text more photos if interested1 point
