The 2015 deer season was my daughters first year. I set her up in what I thought was a good spot and I moved a couple hundred yards away. She saw only one deer but still had a good time. Still I wanted to make it better. Fast forward to September 2016. I figured since I was seeing bucks on my watch last year I would install a double treestand and hopefully I would put her on a buck. So I asked you guys for your opinion on double treestands and out of the blue Cabin Fever (aka Bob) said he would gladly give me a double treestand, all I had to do was come get it. I met Bob in the Finger Lakes and I only wish we had longer to talk. We were both passing on our way to something else we had to do. Super nice guy! A few weeks later I set it up. Fast forward to opening weekend of southern tier gun season. If you recall Saturday was a hot day and Sunday was snowy. Saturday passed with very few deer showing up. We saw a few deer but nothing close. The deer really were not moving. Sunday rolled around and I knew the snow would get the deer on their feet and boy were they ever. We had several does moving all around us. I knew something was going to happen. We had several deer above us on a ridge but we could not make out if they were bucks or does. Abi suggested that I use my grunt tube. So I gave it a round of tending grunts. All of a sudden a deer ran up from the bottom and stopped 75 yards in front of us. We both scoped it and it was a 1-1/2 year old doe. I lifted my head and whispered it's a doe. Abi, still on the deer asked if she could shoot it. I started to say "Yeah" but all I got out of my mouth was the letter Y and BANG. The deer mule kicked and ran out of sight down hill. Before we had a chance to high-5 a deer comes running up from the bottom and lays down 20 yards from the stand on my side. I told Abi that it was probably her deer and we should wait. We gave it some time and it wasn't dying so I put a shot in the neck. Abi's shot was a little back, she destroyed the liver. Then the celebration began, "I can't breath" were the first words out of her mouth. We hugged and I was more of a basket case then she was. We climbed down and first went to where she shot the deer so she could track it. We took lots of pictures and I showed her how to gut the deer. Since the drag was down hill on snow I let her drag it out. So a BIG THANK YOU BOB! You made my daughters first deer a reality. I sent you a bottle in the mail yesterday of Hulbert's Holiday White. It is best served ice cold. I apologize for the delay but with two teenagers involved in everything possible at school I don't get on the computer as much as I used to. Here are some pictures, your photo loader turned a couple of them sideways. Not sure how to fix that.25 points

That's great! There are a lot of good people on here that go out of their way to help each other. As much as we may bicker on subjects, everyone on here is good people. Congrats to your daughter on her first deer!4 points

The Buckmark rifle is not picky when it comes to ammo, while I would not classify it as a one hole tack driver it is plenty accurate for hunting, it's quick handling and it's 4-1/2 pound weight is the main reason I bought it. Like most 22 LRs it groups best with standard velocity ammo. My favorite 22 LR hunting ammo for Squirrels and plinking are the Winchester DynaPoints, it is standard velocity with a copper coating and a shallow hollow point, all my rifles and pistols group well with it. For bigger stuff like Woodchucks, Coons, Fox and even Coyotes I go with the high powered stuff, CCI Stingers and Velocitors are my favorites out to about 100 yards. This high velocity ammo does not group quite as well but it has more a lot more pop and enough accuracy to hit the kill zone easily on the larger Varmints. Al A well placed CCI Velocitor at 40 yards dropped this guy in his tracks.3 points

Grampy Just like everything else it is supply & demand. It has been bad for quite awhile because of Russia's economy being in the toilet. Since they do the vast majority of buying along with China there hasn't been a solid market for quite some time. Odds are it won't come back anytime soon because there are so may furs in storage bought on speculation that if the market does come back it will immediately be flooded with furs. A lot of buyers have bought fur at extremely low prices, fleshed, stretched, dried them, and put them in cold storage anticipating a market comeback.3 points

A big high five to RangerClay for being an exclent mentor, nice job! Congratulations to his daughter, on her very first deer! Her smile says it all! And to Cabin Fever, your kindness and generosity is truly commendable! I've said it many times. The people on this forum are amazingly thoughtful, generous and kind. The stand up people here continue to warm my heart.3 points

Drove to SILs in Geneseo to take down 2 blinds . Got my butt soaked . The Dog House Blind was a cinch to remove and secure in the case . The hub blind that I had on the raised platform was something else . I couldn't fold the darned thing up so I got it back to my SIL's barn and set it up in there to dry out . Got both down before anymore snow and ice . In the meantime I walked to the woods and it is more like a swamp . The water doesn't drain . Saw some heavily used trails and some possible trees to place a couple more tree stands . My boots got wet , my feet were soaked but at least I had accomplished something for the day . I helped my SIL with a couple jobs and found the camera that I had lost over a month ago . It was hanging on the handle of a push mower that she had under her back deck . I had to be within 4 feet of it at least 3 times and hadn't noticed it hanging there . If I hadn't moved my ATV from there , it still would be hanging . So , it actually turned out to be a good day !3 points

Gave this a try just now. Adirondack Bear Naked Amber Ale. I will be trying this to soak some brats in this Spring or Summer. Pretty hearty and flavorful with no fruity, chocolate, or coffee tones.3 points

Well there it is first attempt at putting up my fur. I've always sold green and with the fur market the way it is i figured I should learn how to do it. Other than the obvious holes I think it came out fair. Still alot to learn Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk3 points

This handsome guy is my neighbors dog. He's the very definition of a rescue, a DEC officer found him abandoned in the woods on Long Island. The vet thinks he was out there at least three weeks, he was all bones and his ears were frostbit. He lived with some officers for a couple weeks and they named him Bill but they couldn't keep him so I drove down and got him for my neighbor. He's an awesome dog. They asked the vet why he was so docile at first and the vet said "because he's grateful". Anyway I'm watching him this weekend so I posted him up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Government has no money that it hasn't taken from taxpayers. Taxpayers absorb the cost of anything the government claims is "free". We will pay the costs. It also needs to be known that anything free is often perceived as worthless. Many students will just go to college to avoid getting a job. Do they require a "C" or better grade point average to continue, or can kids, and even adults, attend for 10 years without graduating? Will they get food stamps, welfare and other taxpayer funded benefits at the same time? Will those who don't qualify for "free" tuition get gouged to cover the cost of those who need not pay? Will colleges inflate grades for these students to keep the money flowing in? Will employers consider a county college education to be worth anything in the future when anyone can get one for free? WHAT IS TO BE GAINED FROM THIS PROPOSAL? Is it just a way to get taxpayers to absorb the cost of political indoctrination of the state's youth, so in the future they will vote for the hand that fed them? Considering what colleges today are doing to our youth, that seems to be the most logical explanation.2 points

Most of it has to do with Russia . Maybe China too. They sort of control the fur market I believe Ranched mink for sure. Not sure but Stone may be able to chime in with more detail2 points

Unfortunately that is the reality. Sometimes people go in with the best intentions but bite off more than they can chew. Gsp need their exercise. Otherwise they can get stir crazy. But id rather see an owner recognize they cant give them what they need opposed to keeping them in a situation that isnt meant for the them. A tired dog is a happy dog (and owner)2 points

I joined weight watchers and a gym last February, it took me 55 years, but i beat it, anorexia, I owned anorexia. By August I lost 60#, then I caught Legionaries disease, talk about a weight lose program, I lost another 13.4# in less than a week. I've been back at the gym almost every day for the last 5 or 6 weeks. I'm still not right, but I'm trying. I never thought I would ever say this but, daily exercise is a very good thing, I feel a lot better than I did a year ago. Don't be afraid to give it a try, what do you have to loose?2 points

Never made a Polish cannon, but I can confirm that a standard size Estes model rocket engine will launch nicely out of a 3/4 inch EMT condit. I can also confirm that said projectile severely lacks stabilization... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk2 points

I remember caps like it was yesterday. We used all the above mentioned ways to blast them off plus when we got desperate we could make 'em go bang with our thumb nail. Loved the gun powder smell on my fingers!!2 points

I'm a big supporter of Genny and their pilot beers are pretty good, this one is not my favorite but it's ok. 6% ABV . Btw I highly recommend visiting their Brew House for a flight and meal, best view of the city, great gift shop just a really great place . I'll happy meet any of you there ! They are also building a $50 million expansion and adding 130 jobs ! Another reason to keep buying their products, they employ my neighbors !2 points

All worked out in the end. As usual don't threaten people with weapons and your odds of being run over by a cop fall precipitously.2 points

The perp is out of the hospital and hopefully, gets help for his issues. And all the cops went home that night. Pretty good outcome I think.2 points

My son is a police officer and he says that if they are cranked up on crack that the taser only works for a short time, you have like 15 sec to subdue the perp or they can get extremely aggressive. Plus you can't touch them while the taser s working as you can get tased also! As far as I'm concerned the officer's own safety is and should be 1st concern. If you don't want to be taken by force then don't put yourself in that situation!2 points

They do this on TV all the time. It's gotta be quite a rush when you got that bad guy lined up in your hood ornament and feel your toes getting heavy! Good thing he didn't escape into the cover of a building. They would have had to blown it up "Bruce Willis" style. Next best option would have been the "Texas Heart Shot"..... it's usually not as deadly on thugs as it is on whitetail due to the location of the vitals and has minimal meat loss,lol2 points

my first buck kill. It was 1966, I was 16, on my first solo hunt, and it was opening day. I was over in the State woods that border our hunting property. After not seeing much (around noon) I decided to head back towards our cabin for some lunch. While walking an old logging trail, I see a shadow (?) approaching from around a corner. All of a sudden, there is this little basket-racked 6 point standing on the trail (about 30) yards away staring directly at me. Holy moly, I pull up the Browning Sweet Sixteen and commence firing. He goes down in a heap! After calming down, I realize it's gut job time. Having never before performed that task, I remembered an old Outdoor Life article that I had placed, in my hunting coat pocket, prior to the season. I followed it and successfully completed my mission. Now for the drag. Holy crap, this little guy was HEAVY. Knowing that I had about a mile to go, I figured (apparently correctly) that this was going to be quite a chore. My decision was to go downhill towards Beeman Hollow Rd. (the local version of Deliverance types)! After several hours... I made it. Now what? Using my slightly under-developed brain, I hatched a plan. Along comes an old farm truck, so I proudly stuck out my hitchhike thumb and he pulls over. After hearing my woeful story, he loads the deer and I up, and hauls us back to the farm gate at the hunting property. After thanking the old farmer, I literally ran back to our cabin (about 1/4 mile) to show / tell the crew about my accomplishment! At first, nobody believed me... until I pulled a bag from my coat with the most beautiful heart and liver a sixteen year old blooming hunter could deliver! That did the trick!. After the obligatory congrats, we ran the jeep back out and picked him up. After hanging him from the pole, I was proudly accepted into the deer hunters club at our place... with a cold beer! Imagine that, today they would all be arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor! Back then, I was King for the Day! That is exactly how I got my first deer... a buck.2 points

I have always liked the longer barrel .22 for close range squirrel and pests. I grew up shooting my grandfathers colt woodsman with i think a 6" barrel. We would walk around the fields after they were mowed and shoot woodchucks with it. Good Times.1 point
