  4. Last sit for me tonight. This vixen showed up in the wrong place at the wrong time (with 5 minutes of legal daylight to go). My wife has always wanted a fox mounted to sit next to the front door. It looks like I am done Christmas "shopping" now, She should be happy with a freezer full of venison topped off by this pretty red.

  6. Well finally got to see her she was laughing when I walked in because she new I had walked a hole in the floor of the waiting room. I asked her why we just couldn't have one normal surgery that went the way everyone planned. And she just giggled said she was trying to get the rest of my hair to fall out and turn my beard white. So she still has her sense of humor. Thanks again to everyone and the thoughts and prayers.

  9. Buddy had a wild time in 9g the last two days.....saw a ton of doe from 5-200 yards away....had multi coyote sightings with no shot opportunity...and he ended tonight by seeing a beer haul ass across the neighbors field onto the land we hunt. He said it was buck fever 20x! Pic he sent me of print compared to his hand. Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk

  10. My brother in law is a pretty hard deer hunter. He hunts bow, gun, and muzzleloader. He even shot one with a x-bow this year. He hunts every weekend rain or shine along with the high winds. He hasn't seen a deer in a couple of weeks worth shooting. So today he pulls into work and right next to his parking spot he see this. Gotta love it !!!

  11. Has nothing to do with commercialism. But it does give me a chance to show she is appreciated. She loves Xmas and works hard to provide for her kids. And for her to have no gifts just wouldn't be right , at least in my book. I try to do something for her as she does so much for others you couldn't even imagine. And it doesn't have to be expensive just something to make her day. Not a thing wrong with that.

  12. I want to thank huntingny.com for allowing me to post my processing business on here. I've made a few new customers thanks to this website. I'd also like to thank my new customers for giving me a chance to supply you with cut to order venison. I've not only gained a customer base but I feel like these men and woman are friends as well. I look forward to next season . We have 2 days left so I'm still open but definitely winding down. May you all have a merry Christmas and a happy new year. God bless.

  15. The problem with long and narrow pieces is you have to have recovery rights on the neighbors land . In this case perhaps two or three neighbors deep .

  16. So far, a set of pearl earings, a fancy watch that she has been wanting, a UA pullover thingy with loose collar and a small bottle of her favorite purfume. My DIL helped me out. I am finally going to start hand loading this winter! I needed a better scale and case trimmer. They came today, but can't have them till Christmas. I now have everything I need and more, to make up my own rounds. For so many years, we did not exchange gifts. Always took care of kids, grandkids and other obligations. Since my medical issues last year, my wife says we should spoil each other a little more. I agree.

  19. Sat until legal light. Saw nothing, but a calm end to the season for me. Walked around a bit where I shot two does and finally found both arrows. Bonus! Likely the last time out for deer until next October for me unless I head out to Montauk for New Year's. Great season for me. Plenty of sightings, learned a lot (mostly that I have more to learn). Buck during bow with recurve (a first), Doe during regular season on a dmp and first December deer with a fat doe this week. Work was tough for me, but I probably hunted the hardest I ever have. I am beat. Great reading about everyone else's hunts to keep the interest going during lulls. For those still going out there, good luck. Merry Christmas and Happy Healthy New Year to everyone on HuntingNY. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk

  22. Good luck for the last two days everyone! I sat Saturday afternoon and had 15 in the freshly cut corn field. Although I had the closer ones within 50 yds, I never raised the muzzleloader. Got two freshies in the freezer and had almost two deer left over going into the season, so yesterday I got up early, but seeing the rain and sleet I figured I'd tap out for the season. Gave up a couple of my spots to the neighbors on either side of me, and they each got does. So I'm happy for that.

  23. I went really different tonight. We had some ground pork I was trying to figure out how to prepare. So I made mini pork meatballs, rice noodles, veggies, in a Kung Pao sauce. Also store bought egg rolls. Sent from my SM-S327VL using Tapatalk

  25. Yeah huh? I am known to say qoute on quote that Christmas should be exactly the same as Thanksgiving but with a Christmas tree in the background....I cannot stand doing gifts. My dad, always says no gifts, yet he gets me a little something anyway, I then feel bad. My girlfriend does not have her dad around this year for the holodays, so if I can just take her mind off of that on the holiday itself, then thats what I am going to do. There are other reasons than commercialism to gift giving. Our family wishes each other health, etc everyday of the year, not just Christmas. Thats like only flying a flag on 4th of July, and not year round.

  27. Well our last Field to Fork participant That hadn’t gotten a deer wanted to give it another try this weekend so Amy picked up her muzzleloader tag. She also has her antlerless tags and her regular season tag. We saw 11 deer this morning and she passed on a very easy shot on a lone fawn. About a half hour later 6 came around the corner and she showed great poise waiting for the right shot as well as waiting for the big doe to clear he other deer. Beautiful 65 yard shot with the encore muzzleloader. Very proud of you Amy and glad to have been a part of your journey. I know that muzzleloader is a handful but you did very well with it. Hope you don’t bruise. Lol. We are still on stand finishing the day so see if we can double her up.

  31. Watched the video, guy seems ok to me ,admits his mistakes , which many would have left out altogether . Before America got flabby , many men didn’t wear shirts working hard in the heat . I seldom saw my Dad working in the yard with a shirt on in the summer , and us kids played sports shirtless, gym class was shirts vs skins . That was before the need for “relaxed” jeans and untucked shirts .

  32. My wife has been very hard to surprise or show for. We have 2 children who have health needs and acquire our attention all the time basically. Her hobbies as well as mine have been cut way way back. To the point she doesnt really even have a hobby anymore, and I hunt only a handful of times at most per year lately. Told her not to get me anything but she always does... So i figured Id buy her a spa day with 2 of her friends, pay for their dinner and either send them out to drink some wine or find a male strip club lol. Anything to take her mind off life and the kids for a few hours. She needs it. The kids and I also made her a couple "Mommy" keepsakes the kids can give her.. Also trying to buy her a newer bigger vehicle for xmas but thats not easy when she drives the vehicle that needs to be traded in and she hasnt test drove any new vehicles yet lol And time is running out

  34. Interesting sit for me tonight. I had 4 doe cruise by at 3:30, then a little later two spike bucks came and hung out for a while by me. One of 'em only had one horn, but he was twice as fat as his 2 horned friend. Honestly, I was flabbergasted at the size of this feller. I seriously considered shooting him if I got the chance. His horn to body size ratio was totally whack. Anyway, only his skinny friend got close enough, so they both survived their minutes of proximity. Definitely seeing more deer movement when the pressure is dropping. Been keeping an eye on that.

  35. Went out this AM for a long , last sit in 2018 and things were busy early. Just before legal time a doe came within 5 yards and hung out long enough but I decided to pass. I did the same with a small spike horn. Have my Kansas buck and NY doe in the freezer and I was hunting a large 9 point I saw yesterday anyways. Hunting clothes all packed up, gear, climbing stands, sticks, all packed up and put way with exception of some items currently hanging to dry. I am thankful for the times I had this year, in a year I truly had no idea what would happen. I hope I can do it again next fall!

  41. Dunno about your SOMU (significant other management unit) but GF season starts the first Friday directly after the official close of the muzzleloader season here. Lol. Or at least i was told. Runs until May 1 with the rut usually reaching peak around Feb 14th. Just a reminder - hope it's a good season. I plan on starting the season opener at a local restaurant of the GFs choice.

  43. Nice weather this morning for a sit. Nothing but barking red squirrels and a few gray's running around. Around 9:45am I decided to sneak around a bit, heading over the hill to a big area I can view. I heard a couple quick snorts and saw flags........they were south of me and that nasty north wind gave me up. They made a big circle and one stopped in a spot where I could only make out some brown hair. Finally after a good ten minutes she took two steps and was wide open. I glassed her quickly with my binos to rule out any little spikes that could screw up my day, all clear, just ears. I took the shot at about 90 yards and she flopped over. I started to drag her uphill but after about 60-70 yards I changed my mind and made a call. My buddy was going to pick me up on the lower road but first I hoofed it back to the truck and left most of my clothes, gun and binos. Changed boots and headed back down the hill to get her down to the road. Nice doe, 1.5 years old but maybe older. Didn't weigh her because if I did, I'd have to tell you. Not a fawn, thankfully.
