  8. A neighbor and I were sitting outside talking hunting the other night around my fire pit. We got on the topic of gaining access to private land around this area. We got to talking, and has been out knocking on the same doors this Summer I knocked on for two years getting the same shine on. He was raised and grew up out here and knows many of the people that told him no. For some areas it seems like they will let everyone who asks hunt a tiny little 50 acres, while other areas it's a firm no and the door is rather rudely shot. My wife and I have less then two left on out mortgage. Then we still have some improvements we want to make but it looks like we might have enough in the budget at that time to able to afford buying small plot of land around 25 acres. I hope we can make this happen because I am tired of the BS. I just want my place where I can do w/e the hell I want and be done with knocking on doors.

  10. Stopped at the local Wally World for a few things on the way home last night. Always stroll through the hunting and fishing section. Saw "boonie" hats. Tried one on, found a mirror and said "f-that". Sticking with ball caps!

  18. I would not but I'm a hunter. Theres a lot of land out there owned by people that dont hunt. Theres a big chunk of land that a topsoil farmer owns near me, he and I are friendly so every time I see him I ask to hunt. He always says no, sorry, I already let people hunt. I then ask "How many of them bought 17 yards of topsoil from you?" and he just laughs. Someday I'll get it lol

  19. Got a text from my niece who lives in the middle of the lsland. She said this buck comes into her complex every night and eats the bird seed. The picture isn’t that great but it sure looks like he has a bunch of stickers and trash definitely a big body deer. Funny thing he comes out of one the most heavily hunted parks on Long Island. The non-typical buck is one I could never connect with. I’ve seen a few but never got it done.

  20. Sorry I missed last evening.. I had to wire up a pool pump motor... But I did find a few minutes beforehand to take a few shots. I am happy with my first shot for sure... 20yds. Looks like my grouping is improved greatly at that distance also. All my shots are on horizontally, they just waver a bit from right to left. I plan on getting a drop away rest and get rid of the whisker biscuit

  22. So back around patties day ł decided it was time for a change. Let myself get up to 255lbs and had to get it turned around. ł greatly (not dangerously) reduced my caloric intake and became more active. Good news is ł recently hit my major goal of sub 200lbs, currently at 198lbs. But ł'm stuck and am not seeing any movement, time to change it up again. This time in the fitness department as my diet has improved 3 fold in 2019. Anyone done "Insanity"? ł am thinking it is the change up ł need to get me to my final goal of the 170lb-180lb range by 2020 as it's cardio based not overly time consuming and requires minimal equipment.

  23. OK - I don't want to call Wooly a fraud, but I did those EXACT carvings using only my hunting knife last week. Not one to show off, I kept them to myself. Last night, they mysteriously disappeared from my yard. Now Wooly posts these photos. Coincidence, I THINK NOT!

  29. A little trip kinda side-tracked me from getting these pics posted sooner. How's that expression go, "Go big or go home"? Well, as if Katahdin wasn't already epic enough, I drove out Friday and did a sunrise hike to the biggest, windiest and deadliest peak around: Mt. Washington! As much fun as that was, there is no question that Katahdin rates as my best hike of them all. Man, I can't wait to do this again! Hiking into Chimney Pond was a fairly simple 3.3 mile walk in with some very cool spur trails to incredible viewing spots of the surrounding mountains. The real treat is arriving at Chimney Pond and walking out past the ranger's station to the massive sight of Katahdin looming some 2400' overhead! It's just awesome! Checking on the latest forecast info with the ranger, there was a chance of storms possibly developing in the early afternoon and a cautionary word to consider descending down the Saddle trail if anything started to roll in from the west after I reached summit. Fortunately, nothing serious ever developed. Very eager to get going, I left Chimney Pond and started on the Cathedral trail. No amount of pictures will do this "trail" justice! It is a straight up, 1.2 mile boulder climb gaining 2150' of elevation gain with enough exposure to make Knife Edge seem like a walk in the park! No joke, this was THE most intimidating ascent I have ever made and they even advise people to never descend this trail. Four and five points of contact were necessary nearly all of the way up. I've never been so thrilled and terrified in my whole life! Quads burning, I finally made it to the top and from there it was a short and sweet .2 mile walk to the summit. The folks already up there could probably see my smile the whole way. The summit offers some of the best views you'll ever see. It's jaw-dropping up there. I lingered around for an hour, took pics and even met a young couple that had just completed the Appalachian Trail. Just amazing. Gassed up and ready to go, next it was time to finally cross over the infamous Knife Edge. I have video taken about mid-way, but not sure if I can figure out how to post it here? No way, no how I'd ever want to be up there on a windy, wet or stormy day! The drop-off on either side is well over 2000' and there really is a section that is only 3' wide that you need to cross over! I took my time, picked my way across and just enjoyed the hell out of that whole experience. Just awesome, awesome, awesome! This hike and my entire stay in Maine (thanks again Bionic for all the info!) was incredible. I'll be back for sure, but not soon enough.

  30. Food plot planted, I ended up planting Dean Zone Mix ( Radishes, Turnips,Collards,Sugar Beets and Crimson Clover) It is not pretty, but I am real proud of myself with limited time and equipment. I planted this about 2 weeks ago, I havnt gotten any bucks on camera yet. But I have gotten 2 Bears passing by, so that’s pretty cool. This process was easier then I though it would be, I am already planning to double the size next year to an acre and a small watering hole. Photo 3 is a before and after pic Photo 2 is the plot 2 weeks after planting

  32. They also hate a .357 Mag, which is usually the minimum caliber I carry when hiking...Back when I was doing a lot of hiking to keep in shape for hunting trips, I usually carried a Garand M1 or a Yugo 8MM Mauser, to add to the workout.... Besides that, my hiking companion was a 105 pound lab cross named Gersh….Gentlest dog you ever saw toward people or other dogs, but he'd turn a coyote , a coon or a woodchuck inside out and I'd wager a bear would think twice before taking him on...

  39. When someone says, “ I don’t allow hunting “ that’s your Golden opportunity! You explain to them , you’d bet there are in fact hunters on there now , doing who knows what , building stands, cutting trees and so forth , but you the responsible one will keep those guys off and respect the land and owners wishes . Have references they can call and so on , dress nice ,leave your Jack Daniels T shirt home , along with your loud truck . I knew a guy who, got and still gets access to great farmland ,by being the guy to keep, others off, post it remove old wood stands etc . He offers to be the bad guy on the landowners behalf , in exchange for hunting it . In the past I got access to two, great spots , that nobody could, get permission for ,one is owed by a guy who’s known as a whack job , a guy who takes a chain saw to any tree he finds a stand in , after our first talk I just left . Later I returned to tell him I’d be parked nearby as I’d be hunting the adjacent land and didn’t want him to think I was trespassing on his , he replied with , “ don’t you want to hunt my land ? “ I was treated like gold and even allowed to,use his atv . The other guy said his buddies hunted it for years , but stopped when he asked them to,sign a release , that stared an argument between them , I said where do,I sign ? This was a guy who everyone feared even stepping one foot on his land . No doesn’t always mean no , if you can find the right approach .

  40. I want to root for Bionic, and if I thought it would be fair he would take it hand down. But, seeing Bill and Stormyhawk00 are avid WWE fans, I would guess the latter would show up with a steel chair and blind side Bionic to help Bill out resulting in Bionic winning by DQ and we will never know how it would play out without interference.

  43. Think of an arrow leaving less than perfectly straight once its released. With only a FP, the fletching corrects quickly but with the front also being steered by the BH, it takes far longer and will correct on a less than perfect path. The BH steers it.

  44. It's great to see some nice deer on here! I put out a few cameras about a month ago and just pulled the cards yesterday. It turns out that 2 out of the 3 cameras were angled too high and didn't get much. These pix are the highlight reel from the 3rd camera.
