Got to my spot at 4:50. First gobbles were at 5:10 from what I figured was a group of jake's 75 yards out as they were all in the same tree . Several other birds gobbling in different spots within 200 yards. At 5:20, 6 jakes landed at 15 yrds. Couple minutes later I see a full fan headed my way. The jakes started after him, and I figured they were going to run him off. They pestered him for a minute, and he broke strut and rapidly headed my way with the jakes right behind him. Shot him at 5:35. 26lbs, 1 1/8 spur, 9" beard. On the way out I spotted another group across the road. I'll go after those another day.29 points

Got it done with my hunting buddy of 25+ years. He shot his first turkey ever, a jake this morning about 300 yards away from where I killed my first turkey 25 years ago. Got the whole thing on video too. He's pretty pumped.27 points

Gotnit done for friend ive been taking out for last few years 1st 2 days of season. Didnt get the big one to come in as he had dominant hen with him. And she pulled him down the hill. We did a quick reposition after walking in roundabout a few hundred yards to get ahead and on same level as flock. Was able to pull a group of jakes away and after 20 minutes of them coming in leaving, calling back in, he was finally able to see a beard on one though they were gobbling . His 2nd bird in 4 years of hunting. Made a great shot, bang and flop... done at 7 am.22 points

Oopsy. Fd that up. Belly crawl . Whiff . Had 7 hens with him. Simply misjudged distance . No feathers , he ran , hens ran and all flew. Odd , found an egg where they were scratching or hen dropped it as she ran . Dunno. F me. Maybe I’ll tip him over tomorrow. Todays toast. Got a great show though. Second career miss. Couldn’t have played it any differently accept crawling farther. Too many eyes and he was getting spooky.18 points

My back will be against the same tree for the past 30 yrs. My late nephew Mark took his last bird in '97 leaning against this tree with me by his side. His brother Adam, took his first bird leaning against that same tree with his brothers 870. Unfortunately we lost Adam to a house fire in 2011. Adams sons, Kayden and Dominic, both took there first turkeys with that same 870, with me by their side, backs against the same tree. I don't care if I hear a gobble. I'm there to relive the experience with my late nephews. I'll be talking to them the whole time. If from heaven, they lure a gobbler to that tree, I'll be glad to harvest it in there memory. RIP, Mark and Adam.. everyone misses you and loves you....11 points

I had a mean old hen come in purring with her hackles up and ready to fight, then 2 dumb Jakes. Right as I was leaving a gobbler started up in the lower field, see him next weekend maybe.5 points

This is one of the most assinine statements I have ever read in this turkey forum. It shows just how much of a hypocrite you are. Preach how God loving you are then in the next breath saying its "no big deal" to maim a turkey now and then, one of gods finest creatures. I would hope that one of the mods will remove the post so it doesn't give us all a bad rap in the publics eye, as far as that goes they can remove this one as well. Property line saved the bird I was on. Ran around to cut him off and came across the bear and her cubs. This times a lot farther away. So I sat and watched her dig through logs while the cubs were running around climbing trees. She actually has 3 cubs cute little shits. Oh well home how have some stuff to do this morning.4 points

You can’t, best you can do is have an idea where he is based on topography and know how far said topography is from your location. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

I don’t understand how some of you guys on the forum think they can tell a gobble is 400yds away or 800yd or 1500yds. to think you judge distance that far based on sound with so many variables (wind, topography, etc.), seems quite silly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro3 points

It sounds like there is one about 125 yards to my sw. He has gobbled 7 times so far, make that 8. They are closer together now. I think I’ll give a few yelps and wait.3 points

Got out there a little late because I almost got the 4 wheeler stuck in the mud. Had to walk quite a bit further than I anticipated and had a bird gobble from the roost a lot closer than I thought he'd be. Belly crawled to set up dekes where I thought he could see them then set up as fast I could hoping he'd fly down to them. He did not. The silent hen he was with flew down into the fenced in solar panel field and he quickly followed. They were slowly headed towards the gate at the other end so my plan was to wait for them to walk out of sight then swing wide and cut them off on the other side of the gate(they usuallykeep it open). Well they went from walking slowly to running because 2 hunters spooked them just before I was about to get up. Oh well. Still a beautiful morning to be out there. So that was down at my in-laws... I get home around 1pm or so and start doing some yard work and what do I see? A big ol gobbler strutting 50 yards behind my garage. He hung around for almost 2 hours, even gobbled twice when my neighbor started his mower. If I get home from work before noon this week he's in big trouble! That was a close one! Found a bird from the road had to take the long way around because I don’t have permission on the property he was on but can hunt the woods behind the field. Got in as close as I felt comfortable found a tree and he cut me off but was a couple hundred yards further than where I’d seen him, we went back and fourth for a minute or so then I shut up. He kept gobbling but never got closer. Then I heard a gobble to my right, a few light yelps and purrs and he was coming on a string. He got to 30yds but wouldn’t come under the fence. And eventually worked his way off. I dropped into the ravine and got in front of him. My Hail Mary is in the air… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I know i sure as hell can't. Sound is weird up here at 2000 feet in a quiet day. One you think is 100 yards away is actually 2 fields over and vice versa.2 points

Shooting a compound is easy. Many against inclusion think it’s the time and effort to get proficient with a compound that is the difference between them and Xbow hunters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I am not sure how long it took the pilgrims to raise this hand-hewn post and beam barn frame for my great great grandfather 139 years ago, but it took me a little under a minute to bring it down. I put my largest tractor (43 hp) in the lowest “creeper” gear and used a snatch block and 1/2” wire rope to double my pull force and cut my speed in half. I hoped to pull it down to the south, away from our house, new barn, and big maple shade tree. The frame wasn’t strong enough to hold together and the main center beam busted during the pull, allowing the bulk of the barn to fall to the north. Fortunately, the damage was minimal. It missed our house by 8 ft, and missed the porch on the west side of the new barn by 1-1/2”. Had that old barn not been so close, I would have made that porch the whole 50 ft length of the new pole barn. The maple tree lost a couple more branches, so I will have to tie up the kids tire swing to another one. It didn’t loose as many branches this time, as it did when another twin “1882” barn frame fell on it on 2018, while I was at work. We didn’t get a video of that one going down, but my wife got a good one this time. Here is what it looked like this morning: I will take my time on the cleanup, and hopefully have grass seeded by the end of August.2 points

Burried treasure: I am liking these chestnut roofing boards even better. Those on the east side are pretty solid, because I can’t ever recall the roof leaking on that side. Those on the west side are probably all rotted bad, because I remember that side leaking twice in my 57 years, and there is no telling his many times it leaked prior.2 points

I don’t think that the conversation is off track at all. I would guess Everyone knows someone who owns their own property that is hunting with an Xbow on oct1. No different than I’m sure everyone knows someone who has an AR that doesn’t fit within the safe act. I’m against full inclusion but not enough to fight it. If the state see’s it as archery equipment for some of archery season than what does it matter? It’s archery equipment in the states eyes. It can’t be archery equipment for part and not all… If I wanted to crossbow hunt or if I needed to do to for a medical reason you can bet your butt I would be out there with an Xbow on Oct 1.
