Can we use salt licks in NY

I've 20 something years in NY. My local Gander Mtn you see people buying salt licks. I know they might be buying them for PA or NJ. But last I thought you couldn't use them in NY. Am I right?

Funny how our local Agway sells out od corn, salt licks, c'mere deer and oats-grain by the midfle of September! Go figure..........

Only if it's a salt lick that identifies as a food plot or some sort of living plant. Hey rocks have rights and feelings too. Furer Cuomo told me so.

DEC probably makes the stores sell them so they can fine hunters that don't follow the law, stores wouldn't sell them other wise cause of the law and not may hunters would buy the product.

Funny how the DEC will turn a blind eye to stuff like this when they want deer taken in a bad way. Happens on L.I. all the time. Really no enforcement. Go ahead and buy all you want seeing the way things are going…lol

You can use or do anything you want. The issue is are you willing to pay the cost ?

In this case the odds of getting caught are very very low and the cost is not much of a deterant either.

Which is why so much of it sells.

The local Gander has piles of the stuff. Names like "Deer cain" "Buck snort"  "Rack Master". All of the packaging have pictures of deer, but right in the middle of this feed section is a sign that says the products are not to be used to feed or attract deer in NY.. I always just shake my head when I see that..  Too funny

I never really understood the point. Are deer really going out of their way just hit one of these? You would probably need to keep some sort of decent size pile going for an extended period of time to significantly alter deer movement/habits although they probably would help with inventory and getting a few deer to "pose" for a pic or two.
