josephmrtn
November 11th, 3:07pm After hunting Pretty hard for the past month an a half and not having any luck I decided I was gonna try a new spot this evening so I took a stand out with me and hung it, got done hanging it and pulled my bow and the rest of my gear up... I was all sweaty from hanging the stand in the warm temps so I sprayed down well with Primos Hunting Vanish Scent Eliminating Spray and then put on my ScentLok System gear, Strapped my Hunter Safety System harness to the tree, got my camera rolling and filmed my opening evening interview and then sent a txt to the Outdoor Legacy Pro Staff saying I was in my spot and ready for action (4:32pm)I had only been sitting several minutes when I looked over and saw a big bodied deer coming thru the woods, Quickly turned the camera on and prepared for a big doe however as it came closer I saw the spikes... I had already pre determined I was gonna shoot the first deer I had a good opportunity at for meat in the freezer and I really didn't even think twice about it as I moved the camera into position and drew my bow as he stopped directly downwind at 11 yards below my stand. (Thank God for Scent-lok ????)All I could hear in my mind was Justin Zarr from Bowhunt or Die saying "Aim for the exit hole, not the entry" so I aimed for what I figured would be heart level as it exited on the other side, I squeezed off the shot and he took off running with me following him the best I could with the camera, He made it about 50 yards before stumbling sideways a few steps and falling to the ground. (4:38pm) I proceeded to pull out my phone and send another txt to the Outdoor Legacy Pro Staff... "Deer down!!!!!" (5:10pm) After letting him lay 30 minutes or so I called my bro to come help me with retrieval, climbed down and began looking for blood... A heavy blood trail that I could almost run while following led me directly to where he had expired. Upon field dressing him I found I had taken out both lungs and the heart! Those Dirt Nap Gear DRT broadheads work awesome! A big thanks to my bro for his help dragging the buck out as well as his help taking trophy photos and filming my after the kill interview, I'm super pumped to have my first ever buck with a bow down!! An as they say, "From here, I can only go up!!" ???? Look for the footage from the hunt on a upcoming episode of Outdoor Legacy ???? As im sure you can tell it was snowing pretty heavily while taking trophy pictures Edited November 12, 2015 by josephmrtn
