No we got freezing rain..more sleet than rain ...went from 60 at 1pm to 34 now....I froze my tush off in the garden  blind and saw nothing while the woods behind the house were getting shot to hell....They are either lousy shots or they filled their tags and should be going home tomorrow...lets hope.

Son saw deer got no shots, guest took a 9 pt but due to broken tines legal 7 and Mr. B saw a few doe at camp.

Decided to try a thick over grown pine field that I've been seeing a few lanes through . Doe everywhere ! And no tags . I almost got ran/walk on 4 times ,I had 4 different doe within 15 feet of me while sitting on the ground against a tree. So much excitement for a few hours sit.

So opening day closes with 3 bucks, 5pt, 6pt and button buck between my son and my 2 BILs. First time in many years. I would say it was successful. Hoping the weather holds out tomorrow AM for a morning sit before we head back to LI.

My two-story blind, at the edge of the back corn plot, has been the meat-hole this year.   I killed a 2-1/2 year old buck from the upper deck with my crossbow, just as he stepped out of the corn a couple weeks ago.  My buddy from work took a button buck from up there this morning (I just ate 1/2 the liver from that one for dinner, man was that good).   I rode out the rain/wind this afternoon in the enclosed lower deck and killed a big doe when she came out of the brush at 4:00 pm, to investigate the BB's gut pile.   Our family really can't use any more venison, but my sister's family was very thankful for that last doe.  The DEC wants a lot does killed here in zone 9F, so I did my part.   All three of them deer had stomachs loaded with corn.  I still have another DMP for here plus one for 9A.  Does anyone know if and where they are taking donated deer this year in WNY to feed the homeless folks?

Saw a big bodied buck,  cruising down the valley about 200 yds away , no shot. This is all I got at 9 am .100 yds with my T/C Triumph .Then the wind started , then rain then eventually snow by 1 pm.  So in all I saw  a buck then 2 doe at 11 am. A least I saw something , all my hunting buddies saw nothing . I hunted Allegany State park (9S),  been hunting there for 35 yrs.on opening day. Took many large bucks , the biggest deer I have ever seen were in Allegany  State park. and saw 0 other hunters , very few shots1119161118.jpg

Sounded  like a shooting gallery where im at  heard 6 shot one after the other then 3 one after the other then 4 again . This morning.

Just walked back out to parking lot  tropper was  there  ask him if he saw anyone bring out a deer he said no .

Getting to hot now almost 60 .

Started the morning at about 32 .

I was Surprised that i walked  over 1.25 miles straight back in this state land and saw nobody even  though the  lot was full over  15 cars i counted .  First time on opening  day i did not run into a hunter in the woods on public land in this area . Could it be  no body using  orange any more ?

Had two hunters walk right in on my son and I today. One had a dog with him and crossed through the field across from me... covered 200+ yards straight towards me. Neither of them had orange. Find it hard to believe they didn't see my 250# Ass wearing orange vest and hat sitting on the edge of a brush line.

Well I already told you guys how I got my buddy into a real nice stand which he took a doe from then karma paid me back with a doe of my own. Well same buddy same stand I get a good buck cruise past me nose to the ground and offer no shot but it's headed in his direction. I give him a quick heads up text and 15 min later the buck was on the ground! Ends up being a real nice 7 point with a swollen neck in full rut mode. It's not my personal best opening day but as far as memories go this one is up there.

One of the worst opening days in 15 years in 7J (Fenner) had a doe and two fawns pass around 7:30 let them walk sat till 10:15 took a break ate and back in at 11:00 for the rest of the day, didn't see anymore deer, my son did the same and his only entertainment was a large porcupine at about 3:30 going to give it a whirl in the AM hopefully won't get blown out of the stand with the wind at least will have snow instead of high temps ...

Good luck ....

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
