Does anyone else really enjoy hunting in snow and 18 degrees. This is what I wait for

I have a love hate relationship!! Lol
Love hunting in snow, not a fan of freezing my ass off.

This cold spell has seemed to get the deer more active though as shown by the amount of harvests on here this week

Time to get on your feet and start still-hunting. Get that blood circulating. After opening day, still-hunting has always been the most productive method for me. Sometimes you still get cold but usually proper clothing and that very slight movement is just enough to keep me warm.

Zem...look at that! On regular computer and I see what I actually typed....

Oh... Mr B. it out cleaning all the vehicles now. One more coffee then off to hand shovel the drive...we got a bit of snow by golly...Pretty sure with his shoulder bothering him he won't want to get the tractor fired up...Didn't help he asked me to pull off his rubber boot(put on wrong socks, too tight)...I was being careful and he said you getting old? Pull!...I yanked him out off the wooden office chair that then flipped over hitting him...Damned if you do, damned if you don't :sorry::scratchhead:

I'm a died-in-the-wool tree stand hunter...and I loathe guys like this morning who show up at 20-of legal or later to take a 500yd walk.

Today he walked right into their security zone (off the public) and fired (and apparently missed at 7:07) only to do a short lap and head home prior to 8am. I was in my stand where I could see the lot I observed his entry/exit.

That said the only in-range deer I saw all season were on the ground and my one harvest was a spot and stalk.  Literally all my "action" in gun was on the ground on my feet.

Anyway even though I agree with you I must say not having ambushed an unaware deer from an elevated perch has left me feeling unfulfilled.  Doubt I'll take the xbow out much and my bow needs restrung before it sees anymore action.

Nice work harvesters!  Man that soft winter has led to a lot of meat hangin!

Good luck

Fat lady took off my hunting clothes and put them in the washer. She also wiped down my rifle and shotgun and put them away. She didn't take my muzzleloader yet so I'll see you tomorrow.

2 years in a row, did not even shoot at a deer. Never had one in scope.

Bad year- just found out that our neighbor to south has killed 15 deer since June!! His family lives off them. We pay a pretty penny for 60 acres of woods which doesn't really hold the deer. We've seen a steady decline and I'm not planting any feed to draw deer into a poacher. Thankfully I have just secured about 400 acres of hillside in Whitney Point.

Nice FU(wink wink!)!!

I had this guy just leave after arriving at 7:45 and bedding down. He knew I was there the whole time but also knew I am bow hunting and he was out of range - smarter than your average spike!

Took me forever to see the bedded spike.  No wonder they always see me before I see them!  The white around his eye gave him away.

I am not overly enthused about my last hunt with the shotgun in 9F this afternoon, as I sit here in the house by the woodstove. It is mighty cold and windy out there.   I still have a DMP for here and there are still way too many deer around.  Having a full freezer and no buck tag takes most of the wind out of my sails in this kind of weather.   I will just bundle up with my warmest gear and sit it out. I will get out of the wind inside what has been my most productive blind this season.   A couple hot-hands in the muff and a thermos of hot cider should make it bearable.   Hopefully a doe or better yet, a fat BB will present a good shot.   Getting your hands into a fresh deer is the best way to warm them up.

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
