5-7 deer this AM. A lot of lone fawns. Beautiful morning. Although I love being out, it just doesn't feel the same without a buck tag in my pocket. Saturday my regular season tag will be good and I'll be back out with bow in hand next week.

My head and mind are buried into my phone. I'm clearly not in it today. Getting down, heading to work. Might not get back out until Friday.

I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

Easily fixed. Grab phone from pocket , extend arm , release grip from phone , phone falls 15' to leafy soft ground floor, hunt , retrieve phone after shooting a deer.

Just heard a loud buck fight in a thicket below a pond. Doe came out followed by four bucks, first one was a bomber, big heavy ten. He stood 60 yards from me for 40 minutes before the doe went in the pines up a little gully and he followed. The next two were small six and eight, they worked a scrape in the crabapple trees 25 yards to my left. Fourth was a spike. Amazing encounter

Live from the office checking in on activity. I took Wednesday and Thursday off. First time ever taking time off to hunt. Hopefully it will pay off. I may have to rethink my 6 or better and doe with no fawn strategy these last two days. That strategy has led to a whole lot of nothing for me. Looks like a perfect morning here at the office which is in 5R. I hunt 4K....

You could hear a pin drop a hundred yards away this morning..I mean NOTHING...crows never showed until 8:12 and even they were pretty quiet.. Then I realize, I'm not hearing any squirrels...I start looking around and there a bunch of them...and they are all using my trails, then jumping trees to tree/log then back to the trails ...never having to touch a single leaf...hahaha it was funny to watch. My walk in was just as quiet...It was so nice and relaxing out there...too bad the deer all left before day light. pulled cards on the way home...forgot to put a card in one..and they had been in the turnips BIG TIME..figures...I got just one pic before batteries died in another and I got yesterdays 6 pt at the scrape I was hunting over this morning....too bad it was last night he showed...have stuff to do and headed back out for an evening in the swamp...

That would JUST be my luck...me getting a deer in the swamp at night...Mr B and our son would be Pizzed...I'd have to get it out  by myself....I best make sure the winch is working good and the head lamps have fresh batteries today....Ahhh but alas all this will be for no more than fresh air this year...paying my dues for taking 2 8pt's last year...

Up and at it again. Verrrryyyy quiet in here. Smelled a rutting buck on my walk in. Probably should of sat the stand closest to where it stank. But I'm hell bent on shooting one from this swamp stand!

Might go to field and stream after I get out of the woods and pick up a new rifle. Shot my shotgun yesterday with slugs and the accuracy was terrible. Open sights with a smooth bore, so I knew it wouldn't be crazy accurate but it's still not gonna work for me. Wouldn't mind putting a scope on my benelli and getting a rifled barrel for it but the price of the barrel is almost as much as I paid for the gun! I haven't rifled hunted in a long time so I don't even have one anymore. Thinking of getting the Remington 783. Cheap and good enough for someone who's not doing much other than hunting deer under 250 yards. Any good word on these? Or does anyone have a nice rifle for sale in 308 or 06? Lol

I have a ruger American .308 I won last year. Sweet little gun and I've seen it selling for $350. Im a browning guy but if youre on a budget you should check it out.

I've been lurkin here many years grow and it's almost as hard for me to swallow that you haven't harvested as it is that I haven't.

I also feel like I am paying a cosmic price for last season's public land 105" 8 point.  I haven't eaten archery tag soup since 2009.

Speaking of tags I need a 7R for a 7J and hunting access on my 60 acres in Newfield (sorry I won't mention it again but I'm hungry).

I have a 783 in 7mm mag that I got about 6 months ago. I have yet to shoot it, but it seems like a nicely built budget rifle. I've heard good things about them too.

Sat last night from 2 - dark. Only thing I saw were three nice turkeys. Think I'm going to put the bow away for the season and get ready for gun opener.

I do have the either sex and antler less bow/mz tags so there is still hope but the way this season is going I'd like to be sitting on my lease on Saturday ready to drop dinner.

Im ashamed to regail you all in the specifics of my failures this season but one involved a P&Y Buck I had rattled in perfect (on 10/26) and this cover branch I was certain I had cleared:

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
