Tree stand height

I know some of you only ground hunt for those of you that do sit tree stands, how high up do you go? Ive hear of some people being 30' plus.

Good question..........I don't think any of my platforms are higher than 16-17 feet.  If I think of it, I'll bring a tape with this fall on a couple sits.

It depends on the surrounding terrain and cover..   I have a couple stands that are in pine trees in  thick cover that are probably 13 or 14 feet and are plenty high for that situation..   Others are 20 feet in more open hilly terrain

I have stands and elevated blinds from 4ft to 22ft,taken deer from all.

With bow, I got up to about 15ft.   With rifle, I will only put up 2 sections, so about 10 feet.

Situation does command it.   

 

More importantly is concealment, not so much height.  Folks put them on the ede of fields, instead of a tree or two deep.  Or make sure there's some branches behind you to break up the outline.  Also keep in mind where the sun is during your ideal hunt time.

 

Too high makes close up deer harder to shoot, because you shooting higher up on the rib cage to get through the middle of the lungs.

 

When your up too high, the lower branches get in the way.

 

People limp away from 15ft falls, 30ft will not be forgiving........  I clear all rocks, dead branches, and loosen up the soil around the base.   I have even put mulch down.  That few inches of cushion makes a huge difference in how a body reacts to a fall.

I have stands from 37ft to 2 ft. Situation and cover dictates how high I will go. Most of mine are 15-25ft.

17-22ft is all I need and want.

Depends on how far away they are. It is the only suitable tree on the best natural funnel on my farm. It's on a side hill so the deer are usually not that down.

have a couple stands at 15-18 feet, but the rest of them are all 21-38 feet,  the 38 foot stand is one of my best stands and has been the demise of a few good bucks.   i rarely ever trim branches and most of my stands have 10 yard max shots.

I like the 14-16 foot mark seems to work just fine for me

All depends on if I'm on the uphill or downhill side of them if downhill I go as high as I can and have even adjusted my climber halfway up so I could go higher if I felt I needed to. Seems like 15 to 30 feet is about as high as I'd ever need. Most of time probably closer to the 20 mark.

Believe my ladder stand is 15'. When I use the climber I climb until I feel the cords tied to backpack and gun get taunt. So however long they are.

Most spots 25 to 30ft depending on terrain with the climber ....otherwise it's 18ft ladders with a shooting rail

When using a hang on stand, it's anywhere from 15 to 18 ft. to the platform. When using my Summit climber, I usually end up going higher to around 20-25ft.

The tree stand I use has three 5 foot extensions .... wish it had four  !

I like 18 for bow hunting, if i'm gun hunting with my climber ill go up higher. maybe 25 ish

15 to 16' is all i ever needed...damn some of you guys going 30 plus feet is insane. Cant imagine going that high to kill a deer.

15-20 ft.  I hate heights but deal with it, most sets my feet are probably 18' up.

The basic ladders I use are only 15' the hangons and climber I usually go closer to 20 foot.

Cover is king.

Most of our cheapo ladders are 12-14' at the platform.  We have a few hang-ons that might be a tad higher.  Haven't had a need to go higher as far as I know.
