no one told the deer it was to warm.... He came in chasing 5 doe which are walking past me on the ground at 40 yards tight now !

Considering it is rut and winter is setting in early deer will be on their feet doing these bothersome things called breeding and eating.

I have shot almost every mid-day deer I've ever harvested with fresh snow on the ground, I think all of them in fact.

Never in the 10 years in our woods have I seen deer tracks on the day of , or even the day after a heavy snowfall. The instinct to preserve energy kicks in. Usually feeding happens then at night. From here on out it is going to be a case of finding day bedding and stalking/bumping  it.

just got in from a perimeter scout. No fresh prints anywhere...as expected 

I also haven't seen any rut activity this year. It's been a very odd season all told. My usual busy corner of the woods was a complete dead zone this year.

Nice deer I bet the snow really helped track that beast. Cute kid he looks a lot like you! You guys have the same yellow complexion. You guys wouldn’t happen to me related to marge homer Lisa Bart and Maggie would you?

wow,two mile track? You must have nudged him before that if you really got a lung and liver. That is a long way to travel. What time did you shoot him? Probably wait till morning would be best...

This sounds counterintuitive however you know your woods and I've seen enough evidence of that.

I got a nice 2.5 heavy six into 15 yards on the ground yesterday during a wailing snowstorm (2" in under 3 hour)...he was on the move seemingly looking for love.

Yote country?  What time did you hit him? 8 hrs later he should be dead go back then if you can.

Good chance of becoming huge.  No one will shoot him.  He is probably very happy with his appearance.

He was quite skittish. There was another much bigger spike with 9 inch daggers about 40 yards north of him. Think he was afraid. Then they ended up together. Had to call in my sister to drive up and scare them away so i could climb out of my stand. If he was a doe i was gonna shoot it and mount it. I wanted it on my wall because it was so damn ugly

Was part of the ground force this afternoon cause that wind was just too much in a stand. And not a damn thing. Sat in a spot with a big buck on cam but he didn't come by tonite.  Sat 18 yards form this cam hoping he might show or even one of his ladies.

And of course back out tomorrow. I have t,w,th off for a last ditch try but might have to change it due to weather. Will see.

My wife's cuz in said to me  i love crossbows said he was riding around in his truck and seen a 5 pointer eating under someone's Apple tree shot it right from his truck right on the person's front lawn. I just said wow. Never ceases to amaze me what people will do for a deer lol I'll keep drinking.

Shot a good doe this afternoon... from the ground!!! Found me a good pine tree to stand under. Saw her running through the golden rod and heard grunting over the hill behind her. She stepped up to the fence about to come into the woods and gave me the shot at 25 yards. She spun around and made it 35 yards back across the field before crashing. The buck tracked her down and appeared to be dry humping over her body. Rutting bucks move in wind and snow guys! It could be a hurricane and they will move when the rut is on. Get out there and get them!

Final count 5 bucks 4 doe . Oddly the movement on stand was all behind me, it’s always most in front of stand . One shooter at last light trapped me for a good bit, got out without spooking him it seems .

Last two sits 26 deer in high winds .

Heres a selfie of the spike , it’s largely obstructed though .

Oh, bought a two,piece thick seat / back cushion like turkey hunters use. My.ladders have mesh seats and the wind and cold go right trough , this cushion was like having heated seats , I can’t get over how much more comfortable it was .

      Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike?       What are the best steps carry a bow on your back?

      The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
      You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

      A Hunter's Obligation to Know the Rules

      Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
      I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
      I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
      I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.

      Bolt Action with Pistol Grip

      I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
