Been there, done that - opening day buck with a bow. Unfortunately, now you have ~40 days to 2nd guess that decision. Just wait until the rut when you're armed with an anterless tag only! Trust me, that's a hard pill to swallow! Congrat all the same! Recurve bow?

Already there slowhand.  It was bad enough being tagged out before my rut vacation but now I have all season.  That said, I don’t know how much time I will have out there until gun season anyways.

You need to latch onto to a waterfowler, youll be hooked in not time

Out of sight out of mind. If I shot a buck on 10/1, I would hunt till gun opener when I can shoot another buck

Nah.  Still lots to look forward to the extent I can get out there.  I get to live vicariously through phade and David when we hunt together and enjoy in their successes on one of the great bucks we have around.  Both were real close to a big PY buck on opener.  We celebrate the victories like a team and I look forward to that text that its time to track again. 

Plus, Natalie is itching to get out there with me in bow.  Hopefully we will be blessed with a doe or two when hunting together.

Sometimes getting one real early gives you the freedom to try some spots/strategies you may not usually. And that may up your game and increase your hunting knowledge. It also may keep your ass in bed when the bow season is running out and it’s 33 degrees and pissing rain and blowing 20 mph while Phade is froze to a tree! Lol

Decided last minute to sit for a couple of hours before going to work this morning.  Was there about an hour and rainstorm came in.  I hunt on a field edge, but went into the woods to try and find a dry spot... the alternative was to go home by walking 1/2 mile through the field and get down poured on.  Managed to stay fairly dry standing under a tree for an hour before I slipped out when the rain let up.  Might head back in for the evening round.

I went for a stillhunt and managed to see some deer before they saw me. Then i lost track of them as i tried to get closer,and then they saw me before i saw them and the game was up!! They hung out where i thought they may be though because of the wind direction. It was fun,and then i got wet...

lol - yes Andrew, cheap and easy are not the things I learned from you about chasing dogs.  It was fun though even if I never connected.  It aint over yet!

By the way, I will send you a list of suggested items you should buy for next hunt that I can "borrow"

      Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike?       What are the best steps carry a bow on your back?

      The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
      You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

      A Hunter's Obligation to Know the Rules

      Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
      I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
      I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
      I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.

      Bolt Action with Pistol Grip

      I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
