Saw three bucks and an unknown Saturday and two hen turkey, that was a great day.  This morning this doe came in quiet, she had a good size fawn with her.  I grabbed my bow and didn't want to risk standing up so shot from the sitting position, glad I practiced it religiously at the Academy late this summer.  I have much respect for my professors......... :)

The best parts are she's a mature doe and I made a perfect shot; that doesn't always happen.

Woohoo!congrats!

Well since the season has started meaning !uploading and cross bow. The jackers are  at it. If baiting wasn't enough just heard from a unknown of a six pointer being taken with a crossbow from under a landowners Apple trees from the road. Jackers have taken hunting to another level. I was hunting state the other day and a landowners who has land bordering it a had a bait pile and a permanent wood stand bordering it. Gotta love hunting the adirondacks of there's no deer they'll findem.

Saw 6 deer tonite, all flatheads.  Shot over the back of a doe at 38 yards.  She was wary and must've seen or heard as I shot and dropped to take off and it sailed right over.  I even tried to aim low anticipating this. Wasnt a big one but would've been a start for meat. Today def picked up. . more activity on cams too.   First miss with this bow that I've had for 3 seasons. Gotta fix that asap and down one tomorrow.

Though for sure that balloon was gonna land right in front of me as they have landed there in the past. Well if they did they always have alcohol and snacks at least.

Was a good night out.  Another 5 inches and it would've ended better.

So, on my way out to my evening sit I found a crossbow bolt about 75 yards from my house. No blood or hair at all. Considering that my property lines are at least 250 yards in either direction, I’m thinking that I have a trespasser. Pisses me off cause I have a large group of guys who lease all the land around me and warn me every year to stay off of their lease. Not to mention that it’s not crossbow season.

I try to get along but don’t step back when you try to push in on me and mine. Could be an interesting season.

Maybe some a hole shot it up in the air and that’s where it landed. At the right angles 250 yards would be nothing for distance traveled of a x bow bolt

Was out last evening and didn't see any deer. As I was getting to my vehicle I heard a car VS deer collision right around the bend so I drove over to check it out. The car was gone and a spike was in the ditch with a couple broken legs. Out came the bow and I ended it's suffering.

Long story short, the guys came back and said they didn't have time to process the deer and they had the Sheriff sign the deer to me. Can't argue with getting a free tag and other than broken legs there's not much meat damage.457ab70d043de5bebf37c7e3dd429cb4.jpg&key=6a4544e3e056041427cf902050584d48a49c25014bea92d89acbd3fa6971940f1b283e2c031b65fb238a71c96a6db3a0.jpg&key=f31bb4b057780ea75f3678a1bdd75d0811059c92d01de745004a51ef7392ac05

I never understood people not wanting to shoot a doe with a fawn this time of year? They are 100% ok on their own at this point... in just a few short weeks momma will be ignoring them any way. Plus it’s already been proven they get adopted by other does any way

About 10yrs ago I shot a doe with fawns on oct 15, heard her crash waited an hr went looking for her and she had 2 fawns trying to nurse while she layed there dead. I had to chSe the fawns away to gut her, after that it’s just something I don’t want to do. I ask won’t shoot a doe with a fawn because I don’t like seeing the fawns walk around aimlessly for the rest of the season. I’m sure they survive fine but I don’t need meat bad enough to shoot a doe with a fawn.

I respect and easily understand why you would make that choice.

That said if the fawns or sister doe comes back then I'm looking at a double if it suits me.

I use as much venison as I can harvest every season and I also believe in filling the allotted tags as I know lots of other fellas do not.

I've also passed both good shots presented to me this season on a spike and a little doe.

I think all these choices fall within the category of ethical hunting.

Made it out Friday evening for a beautiful sit, especially compared to the first 2 morning where it rained on me. Still can't hear the deer moving through the wet ground but had shots at a doe with a fawn and this 7. I'm happy to have had some action. Saturday night the in-laws watched our kids so the wife and I stayed up drinking and some other extracurricular activities. So needless to say I didn't make it out Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon I was too busy with football and chores.

That was sunlight hitting tree. I didn't see anything until on my way home, 3 or 4 ran across Rt. 104 and 1 slammed front of my car by the headlight. The deer bounced 2 or 3 times got up and ran off in field , the guy behind me saw it and pulled over to see if i was ok. My right shin hit lower part of the dash so I'm glad I didn't swerve to avoid it as road had a lot of traffic. Not the way I wanted to start my first day out. That is second deer i hit with this car.

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
