That will be tomorrow's dinner, along with the tenderloins. It is in a bag, along with the heart in the bottom of the deer fridge now.
Chest girth was 28".

Im sure he has them marinatimg to have them for  Balls and Eggs breakfast . LOL

Nice shot on your doe Chef . The entry and exit holes looked like the arrow would of passed well above the heart but you skewered it. Way to get it done !

Yea I was kind of surprised when I opened her up, pierced the top of the heart…. The interesting thing was seeing how a single bevel head behaved. Her insides looked like i shot her with a 300 win mag

I've learned to stay off the phone while I am out hunting so ill post up now.  I was out Saturday morning and Sunday after the Bills loss.. total of 9 hours.

On the drive Saturday morning, I hit a 4 pt with the truck.  I saw it coming and was able to slow way down... minimal damage, three dents, left fender, left front door and left rear door.  Bummer.  I stayed out for 4.5 hours or so until it got too warm for me.  There was some shooting in the area but unfortunately I did not see any deer other than on the drive there.

Last evening, I got into my spot and after 45 minutes or so I heard something "coughing", followed by pawing noises.  Im thinking I just had a buck bed down near me.  A bit later I decided that I would move down about 80 yds to play the wind better... the breeze seemed to stop swirling at that point.  I stood up and and heard the coughing sound again... as I walked very slowly, I saw the bedded buck and was able to sneak in for a picture!  I am surprised he didnt bolt out of there.  I did not see any does at all.  The bedded buck was still in there when I left also!.  Great to get out hunting again!   Ill be heading out after work again today 

Congrats to all that put some meat in the freezer this weekend

Thanks Rob... It made the entire weekend worth it getting to see this guy up close (without hitting it with a truck)

I find it strange that the buck was not alarmed at all... Ive seen this same thing once before back in 04 or 05.  You could literally walk right up to him and he could care less!  His ass was into the wind and he was overlooking a pipe line.  Id bet that if he could smell me he would have  been out of there in a hurry

I am in position.  Would have been back here sooner and beat the rain but supper was to succulent not to savor.  The deer action hasn't gotten good until about 6:30 the last two days anyhow.  Got to break out the deet because the skeeters are bad in here. Still have a 9f dmp.  Come on momma doe.

Phone on pocket till 8:00.

I moved out of the cap to a nearby open topped blind at 6:40 pm.   I Saw what looked like an antlerless deer, near the edge of some brush, about 5 minutes later.  It was just over 100 yards away.   It hung out there a couple minutes, then moved back in the brush, never offering a good clear shot or positive identification.  Could have been a mature doe, or small spike but definitely not a mature buck.   I am holding out for a mature doe with my last dmp.   I have a little quality meat now, but I could use some more quantity (and some taco meat).   

Yesterday's bb is still aging in the deer fridge.   Young ones like that don't need much of that, so I will probably skip the hunt tommorow after work (sounds a little on the warm side), and cut it up.   I don't think I am going to grind any of it, seeing how there is so little to spare.   With the shot damage to the front shoulder, I will be lucky to get 30 pounds of meat out of it.  Some of that will definitely be a bone in neck roast,  2-4 small boneless roasts from the hind quarters, and maybe another small one from the non shot-up front shoulder.  The backstraps look good, probably enough for a meal for the wife, youngest daughter, and me, sliced up for a stir-fry.   The tenderloins will make a good appetizer before supper, but no where near enough for a meal.  I will cut everything else up for some real tender stew meat.

I will probably hunt out back here again Wednsday evening and back at my folks Thursday.   I don't think my odds are good form the new field-edge tree blind where I spooked the deer and killed the bb.  I will probably go for the mid-woods two-story blind and bring my old Ithaca 16 gauge.  Shots will be short in there, with all the leaves still on the trees.   That is the gun that got my last mature doe on that farm, back in 19.  There is just something nice about using grandpa's old gun on his old farm.

Depending on the weather, I might hunt Friday afternoon at home, and I have other obligations all day Saturday and Sunday morning.   Sunday afternoon is a possibility, for one last early-season antlerless hunt, with the location TBD.  This early hunting is ok, as far as deer sightings, but the warm temps and skeeters are making me look forward to October ML season up in the northern zone, crossbow, regular and ML season at and maybe most of all, Holiday ML season at home.   Snow and frozen bugs would be great right now.

Wolc... I think the early antlerless season ends Saturday evening.... No hunting on Sunday.

I made it out for 3 hours last night... tried a different area, more swampy.  Lots of sign in there and heavy runs but I had to get out of there as I was getting destroyed by mosquitos.  Moved to a different area untill the rain really started coming down.  Didnt see a thing
