It sounds like there is one about 125 yards to my sw.  He has gobbled 7 times so far, make that 8.  They are closer together now.  I think I’ll give a few yelps and wait.

I dressed decent but damn it’s brisk. Quiet for a good 45m now. Bunch of trucks were on the side of the road this am, more than I see during deer but not so much as a distant gun shot yet.

I heard (2) shots about a second apart, maybe 1500 yards to my se, about 6:00.  I wonder if Tacs is out this morning.  I also heard (2) more gobbles, a little farther away than the ones I heard earlier this morning, just before those shots but nothing since.

Shot miles off. He’s sporadic on his gobbling and off 350 and going the wrong way.

Was out with my son before light heard two different gobblers. Set up his feet got cold so walked a bit still cold brought him home. 28 degrees right now here. Seen on Tom still on roost in huge pine on way out.that was 20 minutes ago. Thinking about getting back out there.

Maybe it was Sodfather, it was over by Lap.  
 

I am back at the house now.  The only thing I heard after 6:00 were several “hens” yelping.

Got it done with my hunting buddy of 25+ years. He shot his first turkey ever, a jake this morning about 300 yards away from where I killed my first turkey 25 years ago. Got the whole thing on video too. He's pretty pumped.

Oopsy.  Fd that up. Belly crawl . Whiff . Had 7 hens with him. Simply misjudged distance . No feathers , he ran , hens ran and all flew. Odd , found an egg where they were scratching or hen dropped it as she ran . Dunno. F me. Maybe I’ll tip him over tomorrow. Todays toast.  Got a great show though. Second career miss. Couldn’t have played it any differently accept crawling farther. Too many eyes and he was getting spooky.

Well, just had an interesting one.  On my way through a lease I don't have permission to hunt, but can cross, almost to property I have permission, see a fan just over a stone wall.  Stone wall is the boundary.  Drop down, hear a couple puts, leaves crashing, then 2 gobbles right on top of each other.  First noise they made.  I had just yelped not 200 yards away to see if anybody was there first.  One of them comes to check me out, puts, and wanders off.  Good news is they didn't spook hard and went further into the property I can hunt.  Giving them 30 before I do anything.  Birds are really quiet up here the last few years.

I don’t understand how some of you guys on the forum think they can tell a gobble is 400yds away or 800yd or 1500yds. to think you judge distance that far based on sound with so many variables (wind, topography, etc.), seems quite silly.

I know i sure as hell can't.  Sound is weird up here at 2000 feet in a quiet day.  One you think is 100 yards away is actually 2 fields over and vice versa.

Today has been a bust so far.  Didn't hear a single turkey, hen or Tom.  Only heard 1 shot.  Got in the truck and took a cruise to see if anything was out in any of the fields around here.  Nothing.  I saw birds around last week, although not many.  Sunny and cold this morning.  We'll see how things look around 10AM today.
