Today I swung my front door wide open and placed my Bushmaster AR-15 right in the doorway. I left a full 20 round magazine beside it, then left it alone and went about my business. While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor boy across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the stop sign near the front of our house. After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was still sitting there, right where I had left it. It hadn't moved itself outside. It certainly hadn't killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities it had been presented to do so. In fact, it hadn't even loaded itself. Well you can imagine my surprise, with all the media hype about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people. Either the media is wrong, or I'm in possession of the laziest gun in the world. Well, I'm off to check on my spoons. I hear they're making people fat.3 points

red squirrels are the worst! A close second is other hunters on their cell phone. 2 bow seasons ago in Allegeny state park,I snuck in my tree before sunrise, on stand for 30 min, then hear a phone ring. Then hear someone say "hello?" Apparently, it was vince calling, and wondered where this dumb ass was hunting. DA reported he was all alone, no deer (really???) and they discussed several topics, including where to hunt that evening, and which bar to hit afterwards. That was when I called out " shut the hell up, say bye to vinny" Got quiet after that, never did see the guy.2 points

Just ordered a new hunting outfit, first in a few years. Got the Scent Blocker Xbow Jacket and their Super Freak pants too. Both in Realtree Xtra! I don't crossbow hunt but the Xbow jacket has a pouch type pocket in the front (intended for a crossbow cocker) and a small pouch (for a mono pod) that look like they will work perfect for my rangefinder and a wind direction bottle!!! 3-4 day shipping, ill have it just in time to wash and hang dry for my long weekend coming up!!!! LET THE BLOOD TRAILS BEGIN!!!1 point

You know, we don't even realize how much noise pollution bombards us on a daily basis. The one time it really stood out for me was back in the 80s when we went on a moose hunt way the heck back into the wilds of Ontario Canada. Maybe for the first time, I was in a spot where you could hear nothing but an occasional loon or beaver tail slapping the water or a moose splashing around in the dark on the other side of the lake. There were no planes, trains, trucks, cars, dirt-bikes, chainsaws, lawnmowers, leaf blowers or anything with a motor. No kids screaming or neighbors arguing or dogs barking. Just deafening silence......lol. It was great!1 point

another time, I saw a little boy all alone, crying in a park.......no adults around, a cop showed up and put the child in his car and drove off.............I was stunned, I had just witnessed a kidnapping in broad daylight, and by a cop nonetheless!!!1 point

I once saw a cop remove a dead dog from the road, he placed it in a garbage bag and placed it in his trunk.................I never figured out why he would want to steal a dead dog.1 point

HELLO PPL....here it is in a nut shell...A whiny neighbor that may not like guns called a female supervisor....SHE usurped the land owners right to free speech and ordered the cop to remove the sign....now if that supervisor had ordered him to remove ALL signs in the town that were in the towns right of way OK...but it was just one sign...the officer should have made sure that in the performance of his job..... all regulations were adhered to..HE should have made sure that a letter was sent...and he held a copy...if the land owner has a reasonable time to comply then that time should have been given...A knock on the door or a note attached to his door should have happened at the time of removal...How many had disappeared before the camera went up? There are regulations on the books to a towns, village, states right of way or easement...until some one finds and posts those no one knows for sure...BUT as I said if his was the only sign...and that includes political and or real estate ect signs removed...The supervisor and officer were in the wrong...She is covering the towns collective back side...If there is no timed computer record ...or a certified mailing made...Letter never happened...no proof other than her word and when in a government position...unless totally incompetent records are ALWAYS made and on file for these reasons1 point

so i just got back from talking with the farmer he still refuses to take money but i am fixing his brakes and helping with the fence repair later on today, Also found out who offered him the most money and the guy is an outfitter, But he still isnt gonna take him up on it, he found out that the guy wanted to bring random strangers out and let them hunt, And the the landowner said to me " its not right that this guy wants to make a killing off of me and do it with people i dont even know" He then said that he likes the way my brother and i handle his property and thats just not going to change, so load off of my mind but ive already bought the guy a new welder seeing as his shit the bed and ill be bringing it to him later on,1 point

I have no idea just how big a town this Somers is, but maybe the guy was happy just to have something to do that day....lol. I wouldn't get too upset about the cost of the guy taking 3 minutes to remove a sign. Particularly if he was in the neighborhood anyway. Sometimes we actually get downright silly in our attempts to bash law enforcement. I have no idea just who is charged with the responsibility of illegal sign removal. But a cop enforcing a law doesn't really rank way up there on my scale of wasted tax money......lol. Ha-ha..... if the sign had said something about abolishing the death penalty, or "save the whales", it wouldn't even have been a reported story.1 point

illegally placed sign or not, this is a WASTE OF MY HARD EARNED TAX DOLLAR AND YOURS!!!!, why is a well compensated police officer removing signs? , I am sure the local code enforcer could handle this task, considering the proximity to NYC and the population density of this town I am certain there were better utilization of this gentleman's time and skill set, I see nothing here but politics1 point

This is my second season bow hunting/any hunting (no luck in my first!). I learned a great deal last year, and I think I'm on them this year (unless on Monday they change everything lol). I will take any good shot I get , on the first doe or buck I see! Then I'll learn to field dress and butcher (maybe grind and sausage making). I can wait for "The Buck", and as a newbie, I'm not in a hurry to pass for the big one! Maybe this is my year1 point

Just got back from Maine. The trip was great but it was a little warm and getting warmer so I was a little concerned. We did see a fair number of bulls and more cows. After experiencing problems with my gun which was responsible for missing a nice bull on Monday I switched with my friend and sub permitee Clyde. He had his Browning A-Bolt in 7-08. By Wed. we were a little nervous as the day was ending we saw two moose one big and one small. We thought cow and calf but had to check and they were bulls. I took the bigger one and he only made it about twenty yards into the woods. He dressed out at 550 and had smallish 5 point rack. I will only mount the horns instead of a head mount but it's my greatest hunt ever and the entire trip was great. I will try to put some pics up as soon as I can. Thanks to all on here for your support and well wishes. I hope you all can experience this for yourselves.1 point

Talk about misleading titles to a thread....lol. Check out any of the links below and you will see that indicating that "Cops May Be Against Your Gun Rights" is just a flat out lie. It's just not right to malign those that are publicly standing staunchly on our side, in favor of gun owner's rights. The following links will show you the truth about where the cops really are on this issue: http://polhudson.lohudblogs.com/2013/04/16/ny-troopers-safe-act-will-significantly-increase-the-hazards-of-an-already-dangerous-job/ http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2013/04/nys_troopers_have_widely_share.html http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/185401/albany-police-union-blasts-safe-act-as-foolish-unconstitutional/ http://www.humanevents.com/2013/05/24/empire-state-sheriffs-cuomo-showdown/ http://www.oneidadispatch.com/articles/2013/05/18/news/doc51980d8aa59e1663335523.txt http://gunssavelives.net/blog/gun-laws/breaking-ny-sheriffs-association-joins-lawsuit-fighting-ny-safe-act-laws/# http://www.nysheriffs.org/articles/sheriffs%E2%80%99-response-ny-safe-act Etc., Etc., Etc.1 point

70 is just about to hot for me to stalk without being drenched... Lucky for me I am told the land has many stands in place, my tree climber will get dusted off and ready for use if needed... One of the few things that will get me up in a stand is high temps and hunter density. Weatherman can not predict tomorrow so next week predictions do not bother me... Regardless of temp I will be hunting next weekend! Need to scratch the itch...1 point

I always want to be in the woods Nov 7th on my B-day up north. The old timers always said that's the time crazy things happen in the woods from about November 10th - 24th depending on a bunch of factors... I think its a good idea. The later the better IMO but I like snow... Plus I like having more time to hunt vs setting up camp multiple times and the long trip to it. Many years snow happened on the last few days and I was able to key in on some doe but time did not allow enough hunting to find a buck. Hope this year I can find the massive buck tracks I found at the end of last year! 6th -16th then 22nd-7th providing work still allows my month long quest for another ADK buck!!!1 point

There are laws about election signs and how soon after the election they must be removed or the person on the sign can be fined. Funny the cops aren't out policing this? I see a ton of them left out waaaay after elections. And Phade is 110% correct. They make GREAT target stands. Especially the Liberal candidate ones.1 point

It might be wrong, but this is what is happening in NYS...especially southern NYS. City dwellers are moving into northern Westchester/ putnam and Dutchess. native born residences are being pushed out. A house (shack) down here cost at least 400K. taxes are $15K per year. Only city workers, public sector union employees and recent city transplants can afford to live here. Down here the gun owner is considered to be the nut job /criminal, not the cop and town superviser who ordered the signs removal. again BOHICA1 point

You guys know you dont have to put the tag on the deer until you get it back to camp, or main mode of transport, right? You just have to fill it out in the field.1 point
-
I know what I saw in the video, there are no assumptions. If the guy had walked up, stayed professional and removed the sign, then yeah, I could maybe buy into the suggestion that he was just doing his job. Thats not how it happened. Stick your head in the sand about it all you want, the video is pretty clear.1 point
-
private land By far not filling out tag immediately. Can't say I know anyone that does , usually wait till back at camp before deer is hung, so much easier to write/cross out date at table. Public not filling tag out correctly/completely. I think everyone if checked could get a ticket in their life not doing it properly 100% of the time1 point
-
I will say incorrectly filled out tags. If you forget to put down the date, or other mistake on your tag, you will get a summons. The summons may not be as big as for other more serious violations, but I think there are more summonses issued for incorrectly filled tags than for all others.1 point

Not without proper procedure they cant. We have an unregistered vehicle ordinance as well, and there is a procedure that has to be followed before the town can impound the vehicle. It is a series of notices and fines. They cannot just waltz onto your property and take things. You need to update yourself on the law if you really think a badge gives anyone the right to steal. Its pretty obvious the cop kicked over and stole the sign. Kicking it over shows his malicious intent.1 point

Good luck to all hunters this coming season, may your time afield be plentiful and rewarding !1 point

Then a citation should have been issued. this action is stealing as well as criminal trespass.1 point

this happened in The Peoples Republic of Westcheter...The cop is going to be promoted, the town supervior who ordered it's removal re-elected. the comrades are rejoicing down here! BOHICA1 point

Well, the video shows him kick it over and remove it, placing it in his cruiser. The person that it belonged to reported 4 signs being stolen. You do the math. It doesnt show him talking to the property owner, or the property owner removing the sign, does it? If you come on my property and take my belongings without my permission, or the legal right to do so, you are stealing and I dont give a damn if you are police officer or not.1 point

Is that the best you have to offer? Run back to your mom? Or is it because you realize you're supporting a tyrannical enforcement which is outside the spirit of the law, so you are changing the topic. Four year olds are not actually dexterous enough to cast out a pole. They REQUIRE adult help for this. Saying an adult putting a line in the water and handing a pole to a 4 year old equates to the adult fishing is like saying that a person holding a beaker is a chemist. They are simply not correct assessments. But people like you gladly watch as a man is ticketed for something YOU AS A SPORTSMAN should be glad to see, him introducing another generation to the outdoors. But you're so high and mighty because "DA LAW IS DA LAW" herp derp. So you go ahead, you be glad some ******** gave a guy trying to show kids how to fish a ticket. I'll be disgusted, and you'll still be a *****.1 point
