  1. Killed an 8pt buck tonight. I'm going to be crippled up as I had a long uphill drag and I swore I'd never drag another. He's probably a 2.5 year old I'm guessing. I'll pull the lower jaw and see what the DEC has to say about it. One of the biggest bucks weight wise I've ever killed, actually the third heavyset I think, he dressed out at 172 lbs. The drag was about 200 yards. I took this pic as soon as I found him, no hero shots in the field. I'll grab some pics for the contest tomorrow.

  2. Pic of my son's absentee ballot! He's away at college and sent it to me to drop off for him. His first vote after turning 18 and maybe Astorino's first vote?

  3. After 3 years hunting some land of mine up here, I finally spotted a buck. I normally only see does up here. That's a long time to wait, and today that had to end. I took this crotch-horn with a muzzleloader and ended that drought! Takes a lot of pressure off the rest of the season. I swear this is the hardest place I have ever hunted in my life lol!

  5. Snuck up within 8 yards of this 8-point feeding just of a trail in ADK's Fulton County in the pouring rain... had to wait about a minute before I could get a shot at his shoulder... My biggest muzzleloader buck with patch & round ball... I was dreading the drag out, but it wasn't too bad at 2 hours... I just love the big woods

  6. So I'm in my stand and it's getting to be around 5:30 haven't seen anything all day, on my phone bullshitting with some guys on the forum when I see two does feeding in the field about 80 to 100 yards behind my stand.... Feeding in my direction when all of a sudden they make a hard right and go the other way, I haven't seen much this year and say screw it, I'm gunna try and stalk them. Down I go knock and arrow and start off slowly through the field, they are now in the apple trees on the propority, I'm using trees as cover I'm Within 50 yards when the white flags go off and they run back into the woods, oh well I'll just go inside, walking around the house, there are three on the properity I'm hunting about to head in when I notice movement going around the other house, u creep over there hop the wall to the stone patio crawl over to the wall slowly slide up and notice that I am pretty much nose to nose with a giant doe, she immeaditly blows loud and hard and they take off again, I was so close I felt the wind from her blow and my face and she completely scarred the crap out of me almost dropped my bow..... Probably not the best hunting Stragety but it made for a fun night

  7. I asked a guy the other day who he was going to vote for and he told me that he didn't like either one so he wasn't going to vote. I said "well sir no disrespect but its people like you that keep people like Cuomo in office". Let's go Astorino!!

  8. Well it's official. I'm hooked. Can't wait to get out and do it again. Spent tons of time researching(thanks to all of you)practicing my shooting and game planning for this. Went out Sunday morning for the first time. My hunting buddy and I are both rookies so expectations were low. We felt that the day would not be a waste no matter what happened because you are always learning. We'll at about 9:30 in the morning I was walking through a field with waist high grass hoping to scare up some pheasants(no dog...yet). About 100 yards away from me a single pheasant flys in from the North side and lands. Talk about getting juiced up. Now I know there is something in this field. I slowly stalked the pheasant and as I got about 30yds away I could see the grass moving as the pheasant tried to run on the ground. At about 20yds it took flight and I swung my Shotgun around and took the shot. First time not shooting at paper. I am hooked.....can't wait to get out and try again. Thanks for all the help and teaching from all your posts on this forum. I felt prepared and confident.

  21. So I get home im tired and MOST of my stuff is in the car ready to leave the next morning. The wife wants to watch a movie... fine. don't get to sleep till 11 or 12 get up by 3 am. buddy comes over puts his stuff in my car and we are off. drive two hours to a spot I been wanting to hunt for a year just to find I left most of my stuff home.I have everything except my clothing bag and all I have on is a tshirt... great. buddy gives me his plaid shirt that is to small for me but I squeeze into it... meet some nice guys going in and one of em tags along with us as it was his first time hunting the place. Now even though I looked like a hiker I had the best hunt to date. bumped two deer that had to see and hear me coming but let me get so close to them they scared the crap outa me when they decided to move. Then around 2pm being pissed I decide to just call it a hunt. so I get down and pack up my treestand and take a quick scout with one arrow. bumped two more deer. got snorted at by another deer behind me and when I got back to my stand there were maybe 4 deer by my stand WTH, been sitting there all day and now they want to show up. 4 run 1 comes back to eat the berries and I stalk within 20 yards of him, he spooks and runs away. lesson learned... even if your in a bad mood stay in stand. had I just stayed in stand an hour more I woulda bagged a deer and been eating steaks right now

  22. First off, congrats on the shot! You hit and sounds like a decent shot. You did or did not find arrow? If arrow was found, how much blood on it? If you didn't find arrow, but you think you hit a little forward but low, that deer will expire. I agree with everyone that says do not push the deer, absolutely no reason to. If she's down, she's down, no reason to push her. Hopefully you didn't already go too far looking for blood. If she's hit anywhere lethal I would guess, she's bedded in less than 250 yards. I would definitely wait it out. From your picture, the blood on the leave is not a lot! It may open up and start spraying the farther you track but that seems more like dripping. Really need more information. I do think you have a good chance at recovery.

  23. Great advice! Good idea to give her another few hours, mark the direction she was going. Pull out and grab some food that should give enough time for her to stay bedded and hopefully bleed out. When you come back be a detective and slowly track the direction of the blood marking every spot to draw a line in the direction she was going. You should be able to retrieve her in 3 hours if you can wait that long. Hope she is within 200-300 yards as long as you can wait a few hours. Good luck and keep us posted!

  24. I wouldn't start making large circles at this point, you don't want to disturb what little bloodtrail there may be by walking all over it....hands and knees from first blood, and make sure you mark the spot before you move on to the next......liver shot could take a long time to expire as could a single lung hit.

  25. I was a bowtech guy for years. Then I bought a elite hunter and answer in the same year. This year I sold them both and got the E35. By far the best bow I've ever had. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  32. I don't know what happened here in 5 pages, but if your sole purpose is to fill the freezer and it's legal and you get a good shot than why not? It's not unethical in my book. I myself enjoy "the hunt" and would continue to hunt how most of us do, but don't see an issue with this either. Doe or trophy buck, i'm not sure it matters. I will add too that in the last 2 houses I've lived in I've had doe families and young bucks constantly in my yard. They're nice to watch and I probably wouldn't take them for that reason. But it's a personal choice that I wouldn't argue with someone else over for taking the opposite approach.

  33. The hunter needs to have at least his socks and pants on to be ethical. LOL

  34. Had a spray bottle of doe urine in my cargo pocket. Turns out the cap popped off while I was walking and every step was spraying more and more inside my pocket. We quickly discovered the stench when we all piled in my brothers tahoe after the hunt.

  35. tonight I had two fawns come in and could clearly see the smaller one had either a broken foot or leg. She was kind of dragging it not walking on hoof but bent it back and was walking on the top part of foot. She was super small and all I could think about was her getting mauled by coyotes so I took the shot and put her out of her misery. She only went 30 yrds and piled up lung heart shot with 2 blade rage. Her back leg was broke and about 3 inches of bone was sticking out. Sucks to have to use up my tag for very little meat but still feel like I made the right call. Where do you stand on shooting deer with not hunting related injures?

  37. If you're not violating any local ordinance, I would. Besides, the drag will be a short one.

  38. Kills me to hear hunters complain about the early opener, "Oh, it's too early to bowhunt. They shouldn't have opened the season early." (Too warm, bugs, still thick with foliage, deer won't move, blah, blah, blah!) Yeah..... Tell these lucky hunters that!!

  39. I was going to post a message asking if anyone had a 3H tag that was going to rot, I'd gladly put it to good use. Now, however, I would suggest you pass it along to this guy, he deserves it more than most.

  45. 3 1/2 year old 8 point, 175lbs. Caught him on trail cam yesterday morning checking a scrape I made and had the perfect wind this morning to sit in the right stand for him. Woke up late (6 am) and literally ran to my stand in my base layers. Was there for about 40 min before he leisurely strolled through. Sent a Rage through him at 27 yards. He ran about 300 yards before piling up. My son, wife, and buddy helped in the tracking effort. Great morning.
