  1. If for some reason I had to go shopping on black friday, I would intentionally run my truck into a ditch on the way there, and happily spend time in the E.R. rather than the mall…..But thats just me.

  2. This morning was so quiet you could hear a woodpecker fart at 200 yards. Instead, I heard one neighbor come in and climb into another neighbor's ladder stand. That got sorted out. I started thinking that the tracks I saw on the buck trail were only moments old when I walked in. I figured he would be coming back out at about 11:00. (Based on pervious trail cam evidence) so I decided to go in, get the pies in the oven, and get back out by 10:15) I was late. When I walked back in at 11:15 there were tracks headed back along the same route, other direction. I'm glad I didn't give up. I've been busting my butt to get something for the freezer. So when that four point appeared on the trail headed for a tiny window of opportunity I was thrilled and determined. Dropped in his tracks at 60 yards with the 12 gauge my mother gave me just before she passed away last spring. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

  5. For those gun hunters getting discouraged ,guy on the farm just had 5 bucks come out into field,he shot the biggest one, dropped in its tracks. While waiting for his hunting partner a bigger one came out and stood over his dead one . 6 bucks mid day late in the season in a wide open field. It's not over until you quit, keep hunting!

  8. This was my grand mammys recipe. She would add various veggies; various spices to taste, but this is the basic recipe. 2- med. size rabbits 1- onion 3 med size potato ( cut as you like) 1 can green beans 1 can of pea 4 med carrots ( cut as you like) 1 cup mushroom 1 tbsp worchestershire sauce 2 tbsp salt 1 tbsp pepper crust; 1 1/2 cup flour 3/4 cup butter 5-6 tbsp milk I soak my rabbit meat in vinegar water over night. Rinse well. Place rabbit in a stew pan, salt and cover with water. Cook until tender. Cool, then remove from the bone. (I have also crook pot my rabbit meat till tender) In a skillet, melt butter. Add carrots, onion, and potatoes until tender, med high heat. Add beans, peas, mushroom to the mixture. Cook until tender. Add rabbit. Add worchestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Add other spices as you like.Mix all together. Take some of the rabbit water stock, adding corn starch to make a gravy. Meat crust. Mix 1 1/2 cups flour with 3/4 cup melted butter. I use my floured hands to mix the crust mixture. Cut in milk, one tbsp at a time until slightly moist. Work dough into a ball, then divide in half. Roll out dough large enough to fit a 9 " pie plate. I use a butter- flour coated pyrex dish. Add crust to the dish forming like you would a apple pie. Add the mixture to the dish. Mix the gravy with the mixture. Roll out other half of dough large enough to cover dish. Crimp the upper and lower part of the crust together. Form ridges around the pie plate. Fork a few holes in the upper crust. Bake in a 350 degree oven until crust is golden brown. We serve with a tossed salad.

  13. Got the 12 gauge H&R Ultra Deer Slayer with the Bone-collector 3x9 scope this yr for my Birthday from my Wife and Kids and this gun is deadly! So far I have shot at 2 deer, used 2 sabot shells and have dropped both deer in there tracks. Never really had a gun like this, nor used a scope before, I am in love! This gun takes deer hunting to a new level, and it is very accurate at 150 yards. The county I hunt in is shotgun only and now that I have this gun it can stay shotgun for all I care!

  14. loaded up yesterday and headed to camp. snowed all the way from rochester to camp in pa. took a little time loading up this trip between all the thanksgiving supplies and some of my deer, fish and duck mounts we had my truck full and Judy's crossover full. by this morning we had about an inch of snow on the ground which gave a nice winter background for the camp. since mother nature decorated outside it was time for me to spruce up the inside. these are in the stairway, notice the buck at the top of the picture has a double white throat patch, i had never seen one until I killed this buck last year.

  15. In the morning, try placing yourself between the food source (fields) and some real thick cover that they will be traveling to or along. This time of year I am finding them sticking to thicker cover and grouping up. If I see one deer I will see a bunch. If you come across some real fresh tracks then stand by for a bit. More might be coming through that area too. I like to still hunt a lot if the snow isn't too crunchy. I can cover a lot of ground that way. Take a few steps and stop. Few steps and stop. Works well for me. I have had no trouble seeing deer. If you find a nice spot, clear some ground of snow so you have soft ground to stand/move around on.

  16. I wouldn't even want a deer someone else had fatally wounded. Yes, in NYS the first one to take the deer into possession (tag it) owns it. However, unless you are starving, what's the point? You didn't accomplish anything that wasn't inevitable. A gut shot or otherwise wounded deer is different.

  18. 11.28.14 Finished the gas tank last weekend on that POS explorer so I took it to get it inspected this morning. Passed no problem. While I was getting ready to leave, my buddy drives by and stops to rub it in he is heading out to hunt. Told him to text me if he got anything. He wasn't there 5 minutes and a mature doe came in with a 3pt following and he filled his second doe tag. I drove up to where he was hunting after the inspection and he was just leaving so we drove to my in laws to hang and skin it. I just ate, got my gear together, and my BIL will pick me up at 1:30pm today. We should be at camp by 2:45pm the latest, just in time for the afternoon hunt. Let's fill them freezers boys!!!

  20. Every 24 hours . I'll set muskrat traps urban at dusk. Check at 11 pm or so and yank them at dawn. Nobody knows I was there either. I've pulled 11 for 13 first check and 10 for 13 in morning check. Stuffing active holes with conibears. Hit em hard and fast and get out.

  21. It really is a no dispute case if the person that had the second dropping shot managed to tag the deer before the first shooter arrives...In NYS it the person who has a tag on it period. That said...if both shots could be kill shots and between and adult and a kid...Kid would get it...with an explaination of sportsmanship ....

  25. Wasn't sure if this one was general chat or general hunting chat..Seeing it's about hunting, I decided to post it here. So, we are at my g/f's parents for dinner. The topic of hunting comes up....WOW! It was a theater of pain. I laughed, I almost cried, and I got pi$$d. I guess being around here has changed how I look at hunting a bit. In a good way, I think. The g/f's mom tells me about a guy who's wife visits her craft store. He went to AK to kill a trophy Grizzly. He did. The word "trophy" sends my g/f and another friend of her parents into a debate. The g/f states she doesn't think it right to kill an animal just to get the rack, or the whole animal mounted, you only kill what you plan to eat! Her mom leaves the room, and her dad says many of the guys he works with that hunt only kill bucks with big racks. Fellow members, it was like a thread straight outta here ( j/k ). Opinions were flying, voices were getting loud. Then my g/f's parents friend says he's never hunted. AUFKM? Really? I jumped in. I said while I agree that a hunter should only kill what they eat, the man that shot that Griz may have been on a once in a lifetime hunt, so he wasn't really wrong. As far as the rack thing, some folks hunt that way, and as long as they aren't cutting off the head and leaving the body to rot, that is their right as hunters, and hopefully they donate the rest. Then I set the never hunted dude right on who hunters really are what we stand for. After a half hour, he says he didn't know about how much real hunters put in to the sport over all. He left ( not because of the convo, because he was not having dinner with us ). I hope I got through to him. My g/f says on the ride home she had never seen me tell anyone "how it is" when talking about hunting, and she was shocked that I stayed calm and just let the facts speak for themselves. My reply was this, which is going in my siggy as soon as I finish this post: "Stupidity is a plague! Knowledge is the damn cure!" ( only I didn't sad damn........... )

  27. He asked a simple question. I guarantee everyone here has broken the speed limit at one point in our lives. I guarantee if the punishment for speeding was the death penalty that wouldn't happen, but we all know ifts a measly fine or a warning. There is ABSOLUTLY no difference. Almost all of you are hypocrites Unless you live a perfect life and have never once knowingly broke a law.

  29. Do us all a favor and stick to your public land spots. If you can't follow a very simple rule there, I don't expect you would be very considerate of a landowners request of how he would appreciate you behave on his private property. Public land is shared by many other outdoor enthusiasts year round outside of hunting season. By giving other groups the wrong impression of how hunters treat the land that has been set aside for everyone isn't going to do any of us any good. Guys with your "who gives a shit" attitude don't usually last long on private land before they're sent packing and that should piss off anyone who's ever been denied access due to landowners perception of how "hunters" treat land that is not their own.

  43. Thanks All. Hope everybody has a great Turkey Day. Speaking of which, the flock here has to be pushing 100 birds for winter. Amazing how many birds can hook up and spend their winters, their way of yarding up i guess. Took off 400 acres of beans off a couple weeks ago and will start the 300 acres of corn in the morning.
