Forgot I had those snow pics. Not that u guys might care, but this was the proudest day of ownership of my tractor... The next day it was supposed to be 60° so I built my 1 year old a mountain to sled off since it had been too cold to go sledding over the winter. Worked perfect and he loved it! The things u can do with a tractor.....2 points

Well they keep putting up fences where I hunt and call it "Forever Wild" a term I use to love until I actually found out what it meant. Many trees with little life. I for one am all for high fence hunting now. I just need the blue line fenced in and I will be all set. And yes I will spell it out, this means the ADK park blue line. Otherwise it just would not be the same. I have nothing against people doing fence hunts if that's what they want. But they will receive no credit. That is not hunting its target practice. As for the plague? You are all wrong and FSW is right, prepare for the zombie apocalypse!2 points

So, does anyone else here make custom knives? Last year I made each of my groomsmen custom hunting knives tailored to them. I'll have to dig up some pictures of them...I knew we took a few of the finished products. I am about to start up again, since after seeing how nice they came out the wife has made a few comments about wanting one. The plan is: Damascus Steel - Raindrop pattern (probably, maybe another pattern) Blade design will be similar to a "Sharpfinger" Handle will have a pinky hole Copper bolsters and pins Queen Conch shell for the handle Sheath will be made from gator leather that we just finished tanning A quick sketch of what I'm planning:1 point

All of my hunting loads ( except those for my M1 garand) feature Barnes TSX or TTSX bullets... However it has nothing to do with eagles... The damn things are deadly accurate in my rifles and they kill as well as well as any other bullet I have used..They also nearly always exit, and I like an exit hole...Two holes are better than one.1 point

Around the 1,950's Rochester saw a large number of Southern Blacks move to the area to seek work at Kodak, Xerox , B+L, Delco , Gm . Many came with a strong Southern hunting heritage , which continued here. The reason we don't see their kids and grand kids in the woods hunting today is the same as why we don't see white kids and grand kids afield as well. It's not a race or urban/ rural its young from all walks that need to be reintroduced . If urban kids need a lift to the woods perhaps they could catch a lift from the Hippster hunters ....1 point

I have always shot the plain Jane stuff. Winchester Power Points and mostly Remington core Lokt. They are both accurate, perform very well on deer and are inexpensive. About $20. Federal Fusions and Hornady inter locks (red white and blue box) are getting good reviews and their right around $20-$25. Any of these will work fine.1 point

Tri-Star Raptor...Never heard of it...I'll have to check it out. Early 3 inch mag autos, both recoil operated and gas guns, would not cycle with light loads..I had a 3 inch mag A-5 and the lightest loads it was designed to use were 2 3/4" magnums, although it cycled slugs smartly. My 3" mag Rem 1100 will not cycle 2 3/4" loads WITH the 3" chambered barrel installed..However you can mount a 2 3/4" barrel on it and shoot skeet loads all day.. Some early gas guns like the Rem M58 had a switch that you could set for either light loads or heavy loads, and of course the early long recoil operated guns had friction rings on the mag tube that you could adjust for either light or heavy loads. Most current production autos, both recoil and gas, are designed to fire any shells from light target loads through 3" or even 3.5"magnums. Perhaps the Raptor needs a few rounds put through it "wear off the new edges", so to say.. I bought a Rem 1100 skeet gun once, and when it was brand new, if I did not clean the gas piston, chamber, and mag tube every 100 rounds or so it would fail to extract. After 1000 rounds or so, it wore in and I no longer had that problem. Good luck with your new toy, Rob...1 point

perfect good luck. shoot with someone better and ask for help. most will gladly tell you what works for them. try it out.1 point

I may be VERY wrong here on saying this but if it is a recoil operated semi....it may only like the high brass shells due to the heavier load. Again.....may be wrong but throwing it out there1 point

I would be grouchy to if I could not hunt much! That sucks First Light, I feel for you. Be careful about shooting to many doe. Often people hear some advice and take it to heart. Many clubs where told "You need to shoot more Doe!" They did and after a rough winter had very few deer left vs before they "Culled" the population. Carrying capacity that is key, does the deer in your area have enough food? Northern zone not so much unless near agriculture or towns or good food plots. I doubt many in the northern zone would have plots like in his video. This video was geared more towards areas with high population like western NY or even southern zone. In the Northern zone if you have a high population I would leave it, mother nature will fix any issues. If you want doe for food I would target them in the south vs northern area. When all is said and done you are the best judge of your grounds and can determine the best course of action.1 point

Some valid points . We were just looking for a lazy, stinky dog to hang out with us,we didn't have any intentions of working him .1 point

I try to shoot one per hunting area I have (as long. As I have tags) but if a big ol doe steps out I wouldn't hesitate to take another because I know not many people hunt the spots I have access too. Even if that means using my either sex bow tag on a doe I would.1 point

So how do I tell a doe apart from ones staying on my property??? That is kind of silly. These people can make an art out of growing bigger bucks and trying to keep them to yourself. I don't have the time for this, nor would I spend the time trying to grow bigger bucks. I'm tired and know I wont hunt much this year so I guess I'm grouchy! lol1 point

Steve is a great guy and his habitat business is money well spent. This is so paramount with regard to the state saying we have too many does- they're clueless. Unless you can manage your ground based on knowledge you'll find discontent. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

I'm wondering if this is an urban vs. rural thing. I note you are from LI. I think most of that island is urban but correct me if I am wrong. My wife teaches in the local K-12 school. She hears hunting stories from her students all the time. It's part of the culture here. Average grade class size is about 30.1 point

A bear eating a deer and a bear eating your pet are two completely different things1 point

No agenda there in those questions. Here are some proper answers to version B questions 1 & 2, which would probably piss-off the anti's who enjoy fishing.. What are the differences between hunting and fishing? In fishing, baiting is legal and beating them to death is legal. Why do you think people get a thrill from hunting and killing animals? They get to have a meal of fresh meat not pumped full steroids and growth hormones, completely free range fed. At the same time, they are sad for taking its life.1 point

maybe I should've said it different. I agree googling random PT exercises isn't a good idea in that context. however, with his problems I'm sure he's already seen one for his specific issues. if he's anything like the rest of us he's lost the papers explaining each exercise but still remembers the different types he did and for what. googling them will kick the rust off the memory and make sure he's still going to do them right.1 point

Many here crack me up. You guys are saying that this is being made out as a racial thing like some of you are so pro black? LOL. Whether you want to hear it or not, the truth is that the majority of blacks are definitely NOT into the outdoors or outdoor activities. Whether it's because they can't afford it, can't get to rural places, or just a lack of interest, the facts are that only few participate. I've worked with many blacks over the years, and it was completely foreign to them that I liked outdoor activities such as hunting, hiking, etc. To most of them it seemed like a total waste of time and effort. Other races may not be interested either, but most seem at least a little more inquisitive about it. You can take this for what it's worth, but this has been my experience on this matter. There is usually a good deal of truth to most stereotypes, whether you want to accept this fact or not.1 point

I really wanted to leave this alone but..Here goes...I put a book in my pants to help ease the pain from the boots about to hit my a$$. "Inner city youths" and minorities is an odd way to still keep putting it these days. in my area, which is considered low income or "slum" if you like, white people of any age are out numbered about 6:1 by all other ethnicities. But, I don't think that matters anymore. It comes down to prying kids away from the cell phone, Face Book, game consoles, and flat out having no interest in anything not associated with technology. Sleeping in a tent and waking up to a great view of a lake isn't something many kids want to take part in. I am not saying all, but most kids brought up in a city or even rural environment have no interest being in the woods any more. I also hate to say this as well, but most parents are either too busy or just don't care about the outdoors them selves. We live in a time where even adults can't be anywhere without a cell phone connected to the web. So you expect kids to be any different? Some of these programs work to a small extent. But most don't. NOTE! This is just my personal point of view! Not intended to troll, font war, disrespect, or otherwise create chaos.1 point

It appears Four Seasons may have a vested interest in making us believe wild game is unsafe to hunt, and that we will be better off shooting cattle behind high fences.1 point

Humans are way more likely to be dangerous to hunting that any natural causation. The chances of a colony-collapse-esque issue from a natural genesis as it relates to deer is minor compared to anything us idiots can accomplish.1 point

One other suggestion. Trade it in. With the trade in value and what you are going to put into it, you could have a brand new Mission bow (also made by Matthews). Just a thought.1 point

I've tried them all, too. I've concluded to kill deer you do not need the high priced premium ammo. At todays prices they are running from $35-$50 per box and you definitely don't need to spend that kind of money for ammo for NYS deer. In my .270 with plain vanilla Federal Power-shok ammo that you can find for $20 per box I get groups that are just as good as with the expensive stuff. Will put deer down just as good also. If you handload you can get away with shooting premium bullets for less, but buying them ready made you are honestly spending too much for little to no advantage.1 point
