  1. First Fox squirrel! I've been dreaming of getting one since I first heard about them, as a kid. I can't believe how big it is. Got him with my Grandpa's old Winchester model 12. This one's going on the wall, next to the big Grey & the Black. Stoked!!! Sorry pics are upside down.

  2. What cracks me up is how this Ted Cruz statement was twisted into something about 9/11 when it was nothing of the kind and anyone with a half a brain knows it. It was about the politics of NY City and Cruz was not lying. The mayor and our fearless leader Cuomo want an apology, remember what Cuomo said in and interview just a couple of years ago. "The Republican Party candidates are running against the SAFE Act — it was voted for by moderate Republicans who run the Senate! Their problem is not me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves. Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are."

  7. The Pappy's is almost gone, but I do have some other options. I LOVE bourbon. A good friend turned me on to Pappy's a bunch of years back, before the craze. We used to get the 20 year for around $80. One bottle a year, reserved for special occasions. Nowadays those bottles are harder to find than mature bucks on state land... I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

  8. I think what he meant was what all upstaters know. No disrespect but the people he offended are not going to vote for him anyways. Now I have not decided on who I would vote for in 2016. I am not offended by his comments. Alot of the things NYC liberals stand for I don't. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk

  9. Let me explain how it will not hurt him. A true conservative will rarely carry NY in an election anyway because the very people with the attitude he spoke of would never vote for him anyway. And the rest of the state has no say. He was not planning on carrying NY anyway. And if you would vote for his Hillary because of one thing he said, you were going to vote for the lying carpetbagger witch anyway. In 2 weeks no one will even remember he said it when someone else says something stupid. Sad part is he told the truth. When your NYC guy gets out there (Trump) and displays his I am smarter better and know what you need attitude, that is exactly what the NY attitude is portrayed as.

  15. I drink Crown Royal. I drink it straight. I prefer it without ice and keep it in the freezer with a glass so I don't need ice. It's real smooth that way and I don't sip it. Age? I tell my kids, "That American flag only had 48 stars on it when I was born".

  17. Ha, I thought well maybe I'll try that Pappy Van Winkle mentioned here , $80-$250 retail , ok I'll pick up a bottle to try. Basically you can't . Very low production only one store in the area carries it and most stores get a couple bottles per year that they either raffle off or hold for top customers . On the secondary market its possible to find at $1,500 and up....... Empty bottles have sold for as much as $300. So if one could buy it retail , you could drink it ,sell the empty bottle and make a profit !

  18. This time of year I like to have Crown Royal in a rock glass no ice. Also like BlackBerry brandy the same way. On a hot summer day,a good vodka and lemonade with plenty of ice will do nicely. I am 58 now. In my younger days,I drank enough JD,Jim Beam,Evin Williams to float a good sized boat. Did some stupid stuff, but never hurt anyone other than myself. Never had a DUI but probably could have a couple times. Now I enjoy a sip or two while playing guitar in my studio,or the rare times I play a gig.

  19. I spent 6 weeks building a barn for a friend just north of Lexington, KY a few years ago. We toured several distilleries on the weekends but kept going back to Buffalo Trace. Their Blanton's Reserve is one of my favorites and it's easy enough to find in many NY stores. Some of their high-end stuff like Pappy Van Winkle is unbelievably tasty, if you have the wallet for it. Basil Hayden's is another good one. Not sure who makes it, but it's a scotch-like flavor that I enjoy. Three fingers in a rocks glass with one small ice cube, and some pieces of quality dark chocolate to nibble on between sips. I have approximately 491k hours on me (56 yo).

  21. I tend to agree with you here... deer display different tolerance levels based on their interactions with humans... suburban deer are use to human scent and their tolerance for humans is greater than deer that have little human contact and they tend to stick around until they feel threatened. Deep woods ADK deer have little or no tolerance for humans and usually vacate the area long before you get to see them. I have found that deer in Maine, a heavily forested and logged state, will run just a short distance when bumped then stop and watch to assess the danger level. I can only guess that it is because they are constantly getting bumped by loggers and other foresters, but have learned that those humans pose no threat to them and simply go about what they were doing. It makes it nice when you're tracking a buck and bump him from his bed and know he won't run more than 25-30 yards before stopping to check things out... Bang! you're dead!

  22. Same here they do get use. To you of you are out there every day doing chores on your property. I have, had them just stand there and, look,at,me while, going by them on my tractor or a tv only 10 feet from me. But when you are not that active during the week they do get spooked and Leary of you .This happened this year , I was not out there every day because of my open heart surgery, when O did get out there, they would look at me and walk away slowly and not stand. There and watch me. Sent from my VS880 using Tapatalk

  33. The comparison between air gun versus bow/crossbow is inaccurate in my opinion. Hunting with an air gun I think is closer in comparison to hunting with a handgun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  34. Tracking that animal in early season would have been a pain in the butt. people being who they are you would get guys out there taking iffy shots. I see a lot of unrecovered animals in the future. friend of mine got a deer with a rifle this year and I went over to help in gut it for the experience. as we were cleaning the meat we pulled out the slug that took him out. but he dropped right where he was. with an air gun they will run as the kill shot is like that of an arrow im not against this, but for me a crossbow does the same thing and leaves a better blood trail on a bad shot

  35. They may not be good rifles for hunting but that is no reason the government should say we can't hunt with them. If the technology doesn't work hunters won't use it. Opening it up for the market to use will spur innovation and improvements to the technology. Outlawing it will stall the development by the free market. If we allow the government to regulate every new technology we end up with laws that banning a semi-auto because it has a pistol grip. When in fact that technology improves the gun. These air rifles do not pose any significant threat to society therefore there is no reason for the government to regulate them and tell me I cannot use them for hunting. That is for me to decide. If society (other hunters) don't like me using it then they will put social pressure on me not to use it. It is not just cause to send me to jail.

  39. Well Doc...you've read my saying what his post is about for years...I can walk by them and they stand and watch...I can drive the gator within yards of them and they just move off slowly...I have even been working on blinds ,hammering, to look up and see both deer and Turkey standing in front of the blind. Camp where no one is.just slow down on. The road and they are running for the next valley. It is all in how you move around them and how often.

  42. I shipped a handful of worn out chainsaw chains to a 'smith last summer who makes knife blades with them. Chain loops make for some very interesting Damascus blades. This is not the guy I shipped them to, but it's an interesting site with some good pics. Mouse over the individual blades to get close-ups. Cool stuff! http://www.ironriverknifeworks.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=63 Let me know if your hobby heads in that direction.

  44. Nice video. I've been on 9 caribou hunts and one thing I learned is that it can be feast or famine..Ya gotta shoot 'em when they're THERE...<grin>... I was licking my lips watching all of those bulls walk past your tent. I love caribou. Better than moose in my opinion. Thanks for sharing. It brings back fond memories. Looking forward to the next installment.

  45. 10/17/15 I get to the stand in the dark with only one low snort as I came in, great not too bad I think! Nice and quiet. I figure let me get the GoPro out because morning is usually good action. As I open the zipper to my day pack I notice the lights are on so I try to turn it off and it starts beeping and flashing and ARG!!! R U kidding me! This goes on for about a minute before I finally get the dam battery out. Then I hear the tell tail noise of a big deer walking AWAY! Figured I blew the area so I smoke a but only to notice a doe directly below me, she heard me put it out but never looked up. That was my only morning action. 3pm and I'm off stand for a stretch and notice a small buck 65 yards out. I get back in stand and 20 min later a small doe dives into some brush 10 yards out and froze. I figure she was trying to escape the young bucks harassment. Saw another 3 doe at about 120 yards. Doe in the bushes did not leave until I did. 7 deer total 1 4pt 10/24/15 2nd day hunting and it was for half a day. Set up and in stand by 2:30. Had some good action seeing 10 deer total with one 4pt pushing doe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slrgU4-4s5k&feature=em-upload_owner After some more calling I was able to stop what I thought was the largest doe and take her at 22 yards. My first with a bow and I was able to get it on video. I pulled up slightly so the shot was high. Rage did the trick as the arrow broke off and spun around, no pass through. I don't think my death grip on the bow helped my form, lol. She went 40 yards, blood trail was spotty a couple of times. Gave her until dark to wait but you can hear her pile up in the video. 10 deer total 1 4pt and my first bow kill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxfsMDedRok&feature=em-upload_owner

  46. This is a horrible pic because they were way at the edge of my lens' range, but I snapped away anyhow. The story that leads up to this is the best part. I'm so happy to have been there to witness it all first hand! I'll load some more from this encounter when I have time!

  47. Thanks for the comments and checking them out everyone! Fehyd643- I only say that when I get frustrated when my gear falls short on some of the long range stuff. I wish I had a nice LOOOOOONG lens for those situations, but dumping a few grand on a lens for "fun" toys ain't happening. Also, I didn't spend much time on editing those before I slapped them up here so I'll leave you all with a few last bonus shots from that series that I put more effort into.

  48. I decided to sit down in the swamp for a while this morning to see what kind of birds were flying around. I saw some great action, but the highlight of my morning came when a hen wood duck came flapping out of the cat tails putting on the "lame duck" act while quacking up a storm. I thought she spotted me for a moment, but then something caught my eye from the shore where she came from. I thought it was a deer, or maybe a fawn at first, but suddenly I saw a little duckling run from the green forest and paddle for dear life once he hit the waters edge. A split second later, this fox came hot on it's heels and landed at the swamp edge in front of me. I was lucky to get 3 shots off before he turned tail and vanished before my eyes. This was a super cool encounter, and I was happy to come home with this shot! The duckling survived to see another day!
