  1. It's kind of a long story on how we ended up in Naples today but we did. As we were heading back to Canadice late this morning I thought I'd take my wife the scenic route up around Harriet Hollister Spencer State Park back into Canadice to pick up the boat. As we were going up the road to my uncle's old camp I was saying to my wife that one of my inna' net buds lives right up here............she says "oh yea, sure, another imaginary friend!!" So up we go and I get to this camp and I see a guy sitting on the porch, chillin'. Now I've only seen a couple of pics of Skillet here on the web and I wasn't really sure if this was him or not or if he was even there so I roll down the passenger side window and holler...."hey, is Skillet around?" The chillin' guy says "who?" I yell back, Skillet! 3 seconds later this young buck steps out and yells back, "Larry?" He hollers to pull in so we obliged........ We exchanged introductions and it turned out the fellow on the deck was Skillet's buddy Paul, also a member here! We had a nice 30 minute chat and they showed my wife and I the camp. KILLER place! Right in the heart of great deer, turkey, squirrel hunting and some fine trout fishing. I asked if would be OK to have my wife snap a pic and they agreed. From left to right......Skillet, Lawdwaz and (IIRC) O'Brian33 We had a great visit and hopefully we can do it again, maybe a squirrel hunt this September!

  2. I mowed my lawn for the first time today.. Neighbors on both sides mowed THEIRS and shamed me into it.. That means I'll be a SLAVE to my damn grass every 4 or 5 days for at least 3 months, maybe more if we have a wet summer.. I've been threatening to pour the whole lawn to concrete and paint it green.

  5. A lady friend of mine called to say hello. She likes to fish and I had a book on fishing for all the game fish in North America I wanted her to have. As we talked, she said her daughter is going on the youth turkey hunt with some other friends. It will be her first time hunting. She said they have lots of turkey on their land and usually do well. Mom bought her daughter a nice Mossberg 500 youth model in 20 gauge with screw in chokes to use. She got the turkey choke and 3" #5's for her too. As we talked, I asked if the girl has a sling. She did not. I told her to stop over and pick up the book and I'd give her one of the many extra slings I have that never gets used. I then started to find lots I stuff I never use anymore. Insulated camo coveralls, non-insulated camo coveralls, (both too small for me for years now) camo hat, neckerchief, face mask, license holder, gloves, seat cushion, belt, turkey call, hoodie, olive drab wool sweater, some netting, hand muff I used to use to bowhunt, a bore snake, and anything else I felt she might need to get started. I also scrounged up two good compact folding knives, some Cutters insect repellent and some bug bite relief spray. They came over yesterday evening and I gave them all this stuff. And since she plans to hunt deer too, I gave her 10 rounds of Winchester 20 gauge slugs to see how it shoots them later in the year. I also gave her a few rounds of 2 3/4" #3 Buckshot to have available if she ever needed to defend herself when home alone. (They live in a very rural area). We talked for awhile about hunting turkey, shooting guns and buying equipment. I answered a lot of her questions. I told her to call or e-mail anytime if she felt I could help her out. I like to do whatever I can to get new hunters started in the sport, every chance I get. She said she's going to call me about adding weight to the stock to cut recoil and adding some sights to the vent rib for slug shooting. I wished her good luck when they left. I hope she bags a nice one. Mom said they would invite me for the turkey dinner.

  6. ...got pulled from the back of the safe. Heavy. Only really use it to clear woodchucks from hay fields during the warmer months. Hope to have enough time this summer to tally up 100 for the year. Problem is I'm down to my last box of BlackHills 60gr Vmax. Tried some AE FMJ just to practice and box test with but holy hell the stuff isn't a good combo. 6" groups at 200 yrds! Compared to the routine 3/4" groups at 200 yrds I get with the BlackHills. I'll be ammo hunting or getting into reloading quick. Not good.

  8. I always try to help out the ladies too. I once asked Miranda Lambert if she'd like to hunt turkeys with me, and she said she'd love to but she had to wash her hair that day. Then I asked her if she'd like to go out to dinner and she said she'd love to but she never dates guys who are shorter than she is.

  11. Was on the fence about getting out for youth as my little cousin who I took last year couldn't get out this weekend. Now I will be tagging along with a good friend and his grandson. This will be his second youth season. Not a ton of turkey sign by me in 9h, but also have a close property in 8g we can hunt if nothing is going on. I haven't scouted the 8g property yet this year. Good luck all!

  16. This pic is of 3 of my great uncles in Italy. They were out rabbit hunting back in the late 30's, early 40's. The dogs were hunting when they started baying very different than when they were on a rabbit. My great uncle, standing on the passenger side running board, took off running towards them and found that they had encountered a pack of wolves. By the time he got there the wolves had already killed one of the dogs. My uncle raised his side by side and took aim at the first wolf. By the time the smoke cleared and his gun jammed somehow, he had killed three wolves. When my other uncles arrived the remaining wolves had run off. Needless to say it was a day that they wouldn't forget for as long as they lived. The only remaining great uncle still alive is the gentleman standing on the driver's side running board. He's in his mid 90's now and I call him every deer season from camp to tell him that we're there and he loves to hear how we are doing and how many deer we killed. He hasn't hunted in years but he loves to hear the stories. Least I could do is call him and let him live it through us.

  17. Well this came back and is actually bigger than I remember. This is the only buck I have ever seen while hunting. Not surprising I guess since this last season was my first. I love the hole towards the end of the right antler. Another neat thing was a scar on his cheek the taxidermist said went most of the way through his skin. It all adds character. I put it on a piece of old oak that I pulled out of my brothers house during a remodel. We are guessing the board is at least 100 years old but probably much older.

  20. If it were me, I'd tell him sorry, but sales are final. If this had come up within a few days of him getting it, it might be different. He can't buy a used product, sit on it for two months, and then claim it was broken when he received it. Maybe it was, but we can't know and it isn't fair that you would have to eat the cost of a problem that he very well may have caused. If you were planning on selling more items on that site, maybe see if you can negotiate a 50% refund or something along those lines, if only to retain your reputation for future sales.

  22. That's probably a good thing you're not interested Wildcats. Sold it on Craigslist about a month ago. Didn't see any interest here so I didn't want to bump this thread to the top just to lock it. The guy that bought it was sending it to his daughter in Scotland if anyone still wants to pursue it,lol

  23. I don't see why we can't hunt all day here in NY? Most hunters during the spring hunt the mornings anyway, if they have off. Late in the normal season, how many times have you actually spooked a hen off the nest? Few if any right, so why the ban on all day spring season hunting? This has always been a political thing which doesn't make any sense at all. Very similar to the state of PA not being able to hunt on Sundays!!! Wake up people....

  25. lol. Exactly, you should see the lefty liberal crap that passes for education at my school. These kids leave with their heads full of crap that won't fly in the real world. They are doomed. And it was liberals like John Dewey who ruined education in this country. Of course, Uptown has no idea who that is.

  26. Opened up the cottage, got all the water running, got the dock in, and the boat rail system. All the stuff I generally do the opening weekend of walleye is done. Now I just need to work on our kitchen island everything else is ready for some fish fillets to hit the freezer, except the boat. I guess that is next.

  28. Debated working at Suffolk Archers but it was to nice out for work! Headed out to Peconic River Sportsman's club and did the 3D shoot. Beat last weeks high score of 281 with a 288 two of my best scores! Took first place and a T-shirt home instead of a trophy. Nice club the shoot was short shots for the most part, not many shots past 35 yards. Next time I will do the longer shots. One thing is for sure THE TICKS ARE OUT IN FORCE!!!!!!!!!

  34. Got up this morning with plans to fish with low winds. Went to 2 different bait shops and neither had sawbellies or shiners, what a waste. Something with a delivery from the finger lakes. Lots of mad customers. Anyway decided to walk the land and check cams even though it's only been a week. Kicked up 3 deer, and 7 turkeys in the 1.5 hours I was there. The turkeys were bedded about 50 yards the hill from where I get the pics. They all took off flying. Also, got this pretty funny pic of a squirrel. I'll probably pull cams once batteries die and put them back out in mid summer. Also went back to look at skull and it's definitely a doe deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  40. I did porterhouse/shell steaks on the grill. I also did some shrimp kabobs and mushroom jalepeno kabobs. Not pictured was a mac salad with pepperoni, tomato, and scallions in a vinaigrette instead of mayo. Yeah, I left the veins and seeds on the peppers, that's where most of the heat comes from.

  41. One trick we tried when we went to Texas for Rios years ago, buy a pair of woman's panti-hose, cut in half at the crotch, hence a leg in each hand. The carefully pull the opening over the bird starting from the head until the entire bird is "in" the leg of the pant-hose. Two options, take it like that right to your taxidermist as is, or place into the freezer and take at a later time when he is open. The guy we took our birds to said that was an excellent way to prevent and damage to the feathers, beard, etc.

  47. I assume you mean the "killing of black people", by white police officers. And in the vast majority of cases the police have been found to be justified. But again people with an us and them mentality, will always find bias or racism in those decisions. The powder keg grows by not looking at the facts but focusing on perceived racism or bias in such decisions. Sad.
