Finally broke my 2 year slump this morning at 9:15 on a Jake. Called in a Tom that came in quietly but couldn't get a shot. Then about half an hour later I called in two Jakes and blasted one of them. They came in quiet too, didn't hear a single gobble today. Season's been real quiet as far as gobbles this year. Heard one gobble when I had my little cousin out on the youth hunt and not a single gobble during the regular season so far.5 points

I find this little guy on my deck railing today. At first glance I thought it was a rock or a piece of cement.4 points

Found this little guy on my steps yesterday afternoon , courtesy of our cat. I tried to pick him up to see if he was injured , but thought better of it when he started growling at me. So I caught him in my striper net and released him near a coon den in the woods behind my house. He scampered up a tree apparently unharmed. No sign of the mother which was kind of surprising to me.4 points

Been writing since high school. Even went to college to teach literature (even though I still talk like a hillbilly) but dropped out because my mind is useless when contemplating numbers. But I've finally can mark getting published off the bucket list! I wrote a piece for American Digger Magazine. Also have a new video up. Walked two miles of creek in search of yet another major civil war crossing. Found some interesting things. Then on to a home site that was captured by union forces in 1863. Oh yeah, and two owls. All videos are better will owls. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk3 points

I went to Little Valley yesterday, didn't hear a bird at first light. I struck 1 up around 9 got set up , thought he would come down the logging road below me, wrong he went above me, had him coming in till he got behind a big blow down and hung up. I waited him out and he ended up moving on, so I got up and followed him, called him right back only to have him go below me this time! he ended up circling around me at 60 yds. and walked off. So I followed again, he came back to within 60 yrds again and went above me! Finally he just kept walking off! this lasted about 1.5 hours. Best day so far!3 points

I don't condone what the guy did, but most folks who drop their deer off at a processor are not too concerned about how much or what meat they get back. If they were, they would cut them up themselves, It is not that difficult. Maybe a few more folks will start doing their own after reading this. Then they can get all of their own meat back, and learn the best places to place their bullets.3 points

I didn't even think about a dog. I'm hunting in Ontario and if anyone wants to look tomorrow I'm game but given the distance he traveled and now all the rain I feel it might be fruitless and am thinking he might be ok anyhow. maybe tomorrow I can finish him off.2 points

definitely keep a copy and frame it. everyone who finally gets published somehow usually does. somewhere I've got a OEM Powersports magazine cover I'm on because of an extra curricular during college I was apart of. I've got friends who are published in hunting magazines. it's always a cool thing to have your buddies pick up something to read and see your name in it. means people value what you have to say. congrats man! years from now some family will be digging through an old barn and their grandpappy's odd digging stuff and magazines. they'll flip through and there you'll be. a part of history.2 points

Sorry about the unfortunate outcome. Sometimes it can be something small like picking your head off the stock or even a branch in the way you didnt notice that can lead to something like this happening. It happens and only your mistakes are really going to make you a better hunter in the end.2 points

that's a monster of a doe. I'd think even with a processor you'd get at least 60lbs. I usually get around 45-50lbs from a doe that would weigh that much if I strapped a bag of corn on their back. definitely got hosed.2 points

I hope they order restitution to the people who paid for him to process their venison, which he stole and sold to others.2 points

They process 1,500 deer a year , it seems he shaves a couple pounds off each one , rather then poach 80 deer . My guess anyway , seems a lot less labor intensive .2 points

I stopped at the local deli this morning after turkey hunting. This little mooch sat on my side view mirror looking for a piece of my buttered roll. I was able to feed him out of my hand.2 points

It is important to know why deer eat certain weeds and could be of use to you as well...Intestinal parasites...they are transmitted through ingestion(water) sometimes bites or skin irritations...but animals know instinctively what to eat when needed.......here are some things that they will go to...I always fed our goats pine and spruce to avoid have medications in them while actively milking...2 points

First sorry, second at 20 yrds I will assume no shot presented...hurt but moving...personally I would have hung back quietly but keeping him in sight...he just may have stopped to try and recover and yes stiffened up a bit...birds have Adrenalin too. I nearly lost a tom one year ...he ran away...It took a long time to find but he flattened himself up against a downed log and died with his wings out flat...I walked by him twice before I realized what that dark spot was. All this said because you asked for suggestions, not a criticism. So you helped to feed a fox family nothing truly lost, lots of experience gained.1 point

Don't think you did anything worthy of a bashing at all. That's hunting. It doesn't always work out perfectly. That rig you are shooting is certainly capable of a 50 yard kill. I'm assuming you patterned it first.1 point

The biggest thing is, know your range. 5 yards can make a huge difference in a shotguns pattern. I have gotten pretty good judging distance, but sometimes I carry a small range finder, and zap a couple distances when I set up,1 point

I didn't do much to the motor as it started after sitting for 24 years (try thay with a modem vehicle) just changed the oil replaced cracked wired and replaced plugs and rebuilt carb Everything else was restored, had 21 leafs prongs in it so I took out 11, it still rates as a 1 ton. Had a lot of metal fab including the entire bed(found a guy in pa with original plans) brakes, were complete rebuilt (drums all around) ,fender tail had to be fabricated as well as,floors ,cab corners ,rocker panels and braces, windshield frames.. a lot of dents and dings as it was used by former owner as a wood truck. Even had dents in the roof! It should of really went to the scrap yards but it ran and I didn't have heart to take a running vehicle to the junk yard especially a rare vehicle like a pick up. It feels so good to be almost done with it .. hoping for memorial day parade unveiling.1 point

It was just a title no need to get your panties all up in a bunch.LOL It's called a leader and if you bothered to READ it clearly states that Tammy is Manager nowhere does it state that she is the owner and one more thing last year the deer they took in was roughly half of the normal amount.as of the first week in December1 point

It was great the first couple years it came out. Now its just getting worse and annoying. A couple of those guys are just idiots. But its television so who knows,, im sure half of its fake and played out for the television and its viewers.... I still watch the show, but it was much better the first few years, than it is now..1 point

I am no expert, but even I can usually locate a bird or two and at least hear something. Taking a break. 7 days and nothing. Time to look at another area or something. Seasons half way gone so it's time to rethink plans A-Z and start over.1 point

Wasn't sure which post to reply to, so I replied to the first one I read on the topic. http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/32783-stealing-and-selling-venison-caught-in-the-act/ Hope thay do max fines and jail time on this one. Seems like it's been going on for years and the shop won awards.1 point

There was a time when I liked that show. Recently they've been choosing personalities that I don't necessarily like. Charlie was a moron, and that guy in New Mexico (Kyle I think) was equally inept. Don't get me started on Eustace and his sovereign citizen-esque "I don't understand why they're trying to steal my land" crusade. It's not stealing when you owe $40k in back taxes. On top of that, when I started watching closely I started noticing where things were obviously staged. There was an episode where Charlie's beaver were being taken by coyotes, so he set a urine post set. He came back the next day and the coyote was frozen solid in a very unnatural position. If you looked closely you could tell that it was staged. All in all, I can't watch anymore. I liked--and still like--Tom, Marty, and to a lesser extent Rich, but the positives don't outweigh the negatives for me. EDIT: If you're into this kind of subject matter, you should check out the documentary "Happy People: A year in the Taiga" on Netflix. Imagine a Russian version of Mountain Men without the fabricated production.1 point

Good stuff man! Easiest way to find the new drops is on the way to the turkey blind with the headlamp glowing. Look for the eyes reflecting back at ya and they wont budge! Great to see you had time to snap a few pics to remember the encounter! I can't wait to see them little buggers running around here again!1 point

I'm done. Second tag filled. I had one of those crazy turkey hunting mornings this morning and was lucky enough to kill the boss tom. Lucky, (I caught wind of this bird's location in an off hand conversation with a non-hunting friend of a friend.) But now I can't hunt. Turkey season is over. What a bummer... unless I get a Pa. license. But I am still pissed at Pa. over its deer mis-management philosophy. But I might have to break down.1 point
