  1. Is this why Lynch is not prosecuting mateens wife? She's hoping that if other Muslims see her get away with murder they will then come forward and take responsibility for the innocent they murder? Good Plan! Oh wait, Isis and AQ already do! Why not quit playing this game. Obama, just claim responsibility for the deaths yourself. The blood is already on your hands!

  3. Didn't see the one I was looking for last night, but he'll be back. I had to switch locations to get a little closer to the action. This field is the first to fall into the shadows as the sun sets. While not very good for photographing deer, it's a great spot to see them before they hit the main field. .... and a shot from the adjacent "boneyard".

  4. The Just-us Department doesn't even know where Mateen's wife is. I don't imagine they even care at this point because they have their official story. "An innocent Muslim boy was kidnapped by an angry, homophobic gun which commanded him to kill 49 gay American citizens."

  6. Coming along....I just picked/pulled the 3rd and final harvest from my first Spinach crop...the second is up and growing great...same with my lettuce and today I will be planting more...I have flowers on the cukes and a small zucchini that should be ready tomorrow...the second planting of swt. corn has broken ground and I have bird netting strung 3ft over the top of it. All other plants are growing great some of the peppers/tomato are in flower. The plot garden,I share with deer, is growing all except the corn...4 50ft rows ,4 20ft rows and 3 100ft rows of swt corn. not one seed came up...I went to check and at the end of the 20ft rows a near perfectly round 2" x16" in dusting bowl sat....so I'm pretty sure I didn't plant it too deep and the wire worms didn't get it. Birds ,including turkey, have been a real PITA this year....may just skip corn next year..Could have bought frozen all winter for what this cost me...lol The pumpkin ,acorn and melons are all out of the ground and looking good...well as of yesterday...we'll see So how are your gardens doing?

  11. Mom and newly hatched poults strolled out onto the lawn kept laneway yesterday, just 15 yards or so ahead of the tractor. I quickly shut the engine down and watched eleven poults struggling to get through the 2 inch freshly cut grass. This is the second group seen in a week. The first group was smaller in number and had their wing feathers. It surprised me in the number of chicks she had hatched out. This group was all in down and very young. It made me laugh to watch the little fellas keeping up with mom so well. She would stop, allowing the stragglers to catch up looking at me very cautiously. I would have got pics, but with all the excitement with the honey bees;( in the Pumpkin Post of Land Management Section), I ran over my new pop and shoot camera with the tractor. Had quite a day yesterday. I'll try to get some pics in the days forth.

  14. This only lasted a minute last night from the observation stand. The sunsets here glow spectacular-iilly if you catch them at the right time! It literally painted the forest orange, and was pretty amazing to see! Unfortunately buck sightings were limited to two punks the entire night. Would have loved to have caught one in this light!

Why didn't you answer this Scotty on the site he posted on instead of asking people here? Not picking on you Mike, just asking. If I have a reply to something on another site I will post my reply there.

  20. This is where I see denial and arrogance in those who promote non-lead ammo. When someone uses the lead ban for waterfowl hunting to defend the elimination of lead rifle bullets, they spin it as voluntary, but want it to be mandatory. And that would be mandatory with all of the government imposed penalties that come with it. Also, implying that most hunters are not aware of the issue and cannot make informed choices is really calling them stupid, mainly because they don't want to go along with the program for whatever reason. Finally, saying they will make better choices when they have more information is a sign of a superiority complex, believing you know the only right answer to the problem and do not question your own choices. Yes, lead is bad, deer bullets using lead may be affecting raptors, (but so are many other things) they may even be contaminating some venison for consumption if not properly butchered. But do we want the government telling us it is now making the choices in this area for us by force, because they make better decisions than we do? Do we want to hand over freedom of choice here, like we did for waterfowl, without being absolutely sure the actual effects claimed are caused by deer bullets? If you believe it's harming you, choose not to use lead bullets. But do not think you have the authority, or even moral high ground, to tell others what to do. If you can't sway hunter's opinion on lead ammo with information, unless you are a total statist, you cannot use that same information to pass a law effecting others against their will. That's where America is going on many issues these days. It is completely against the original concept of freedom of choice and liberty this country was founded on.

  23. I have hunted the ADKS since I was a young kid with some success. Get a gps and a map and a compass and don't ever forget any of them. Get boots that are comfortable and light. My success has come from covering a lot of miles, sometimes 10+ miles a day. The important part of this is knowing when to move fast and when to slow down. I pack very light and carry light guns that have had the barrels sawed off for better portability. Most of my success has been when I found a spot with buck sign where I can see a long ways. I have shot a bunch of bucks over 150yds in the ADKS. My buck I shot last year I shot in a spot I had found 3 days earlier and it was 3 miles from the road. When u find a spot that has buck sign you want to be there before light. This usually means early mornings and long walks in the dark "compass and gps." Hunting the ADKS is my personal favorite place to hunt and can be very rewarding and very frustrating! My cousin and I have had a camp for 11 years and he has yet to kill a buck. 24. Don't expect many here to read the entire article, but for those who choose to, it explains a lot of the disagreements going on here lately in many threads. Pretty darn accurate IMO. I thought it was rather post worthy to open a few minds to new possibilities of working together around here. http://www.visiomundi.net/openjournals/index.php/wildliferesearch/article/view/8/html_8

After some research, I think I am wrong.. there are a number of pieces up here that have been heavily logged in recent years, but they are either recent acquisitions or easements... This is one example of a state easement that is logged.... http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/39883.html

  33. Actually, a ban would cause a serious backlash. Non-lead allies in CA fought that ban. They felt they could do what was necessary for the condors by working cooperatively with hunters. They were making great progress. I believe a lawsuit forced the ban and caused battle lines to form. If you read what is going on in the other thread, the technical arguments have become meaningless. The people who don't want us talking about this issue are really just concerned about a ban or regulations. If that wasn't casting a big shadow over the conversation, it might progress a little easier.

  39. Water was a key element in both Adirondack deer that I managed to harvest over the last 5 or 6 years. The first was a big doe I took with my ML, on private land, up on an oak-covered ridge, near a small lake about 30 miles from the northern edge of the Adirondack park. I knew there were deer in the area, having heard some "snorts" while out fishing on the lake. The next morning, I snuck up into the general area before daylight, but when I saw several deer after daybreak, they were on the next ridge, and well beyond the effective 125 yard range of my in-line ML. Persistance pays off however, and the following year, I was right up on that ridge at sunrise, as a group of 5 antlerless deer ascended towards my position. The largest doe was out front, clearly the leader of the group. When she reached about 30 yards and stood broadside, I put a bullet behind her shoulder. This was an extremely remote area, and I have to believe this was the first encounter these deer had with a hunter, based on her reaction after taking the bullet. She calmly walked closer to me, stopping about 10 yards away, staring in apparent disbelief. Soon her knees began to buckle, and she tumbled down the steep incline. Clearly she had no clue what had hit her. With no snow and extremely noisy walking conditions, that harvest was completely dependent on being in the right place at the right time, based on a food source. The buck I killed right on the Northern edge of the park, 2 years ago was on the far bank of a creek, a mile or so above a beaver dam. That was late in rifle season, when downed leaves and a complete blanket of snow made visibility much easier. From high up on a ridge, I could see that buck coming from miles away, as he walked along the opposite bank of the creek. His body was so big, that at first I thought it was a moose. I missed on my first well-rested shot with my 30/06, probably because it came from a cold, lubricated barrel, complicated by a little "buck fever". My second shot, taken offhand when he reached the next opening, also missed. By divine providence, he must have heard that second shot, above the noise of crashing ice along the creek from the late morning sun. He stopped just as I reached a perfect branch to rest my heavy rifle on. My third shot, from a rested and warmed barrel, hit him just right, traveling diagonally thru his chest, dropping him in his tracks from a range of about 300 yards. Good luck with your hunting up there, it gets pretty addicting, especially after you taste some of the venison. I will keep hunting up there as long as I am able. Keeping yourself in top physical shape helps out a lot, as there is a ton of ground to cover (largest block of public land in the lower 48), and it takes considerable effort to reach the higher elevations. You might also want to concentrate more on the edges of the park, where more food means more deer.

  45. Tracking is big in Maine just like the Adks, maybe a book from hunters in those areas would be helpful to you too. NFA, I got to see guys looking for tracks in Maine that drive hundreds of miles some days. They also work in crews covering more distance that way, I even saw guys communicating on CB radios. It seemed effective as I saw a couple hanging and in the back of trucks after just a dusting of snow. I was impressed to say the least.

  46. Wooly that is cool. Years ago I was at the top of a mountain in the Catskills at sunrise. There was only a sliver of clear sky the rest clouds. When the sun shined through the opening it washed the whole forest in burnt orange color. It was truly amazing. I have never ever seen anything like it again. Those moments are made to reflect upon. Glad you had a camera!
