  1. Man, what a bummer. Sure hope they're able to keep the doors open so his legacy can live on. Such a great place he made available to the public there.

  2. Deers? Anyway, we don't allow deer hunting in too many places. That is the cause of the over overpopulation. They say it's too dangerous to allow hunters to hunt in these places. Yet they think it might be a good idea to allow cougars to inhabit these places? Seems completely illogical to me, unless you hate hunting so much, you will try any hair brained idea to replace it.

  3. i would say stick with an outboard until you get over 19 foot. with an IO you will be limited to warm temp usage, where with an outboard you can use them all year long. the IO will need to be winterized every fall while you can learn how to do it yourself its generally around 120-150.00 to have a marina do it and in my opinion its cheap insurance having them do it so if in the spring you start up the boat and find a broken heat exchanger or cracked block because something was missed it falls back on the marina. with an IO a few things to look at and remember for future maintenance is the transom boot and shift boot, they can, do and will dry rot and leak, if you keep the boat on a dock muskrats love transom boots for some reason. IO motors are sometimes easier for mechanically inclined folks to work on since they are basically a car motor with open water ports, most though are crammed into small areas and can be a a real pain to work on. you will also need a oil change pump to change the oil or again have the marina do it. pontoon boats generally have lots of room to fish off of but they are NOT a boat for large water, they will roll over in rough water and as law said they can be a real pita in windy conditions. a 35 hp on a pontoon boat unless its a real small boat will likely be under powered. as far as conventional runabout boats go some of the things to look for are; - transom, check for water logged wood or signs of dry rot and weak wood -floors, again check for weak spots, soft spots, spongy spots. generally in the forward bow, around the seats and just in front of the splashwell. -wiring, if it looks like a spaghetti mess and shows a lot of corrosion you will be fixing it at some point. -steering cables or hydrolic lines should be in good condition and operate smoothly. - flotation foam, make sure its present and not water logged. if its not present either have it done or find a different boat. -check bilge pumps for proper operations, also check the bilge pump hoses for blockage. - outboards, general appearance of little or no residual oil all over it, pull the engine cover check for cleanliness -spark plug/ coil wires flexible and not cracked. -carbs clean? -general appearance neat, clean, no appearance of shady repairs ( parts tie wrapped or wired together where there should obviously be something else securing the part) -- lower unit, -check for oil leaks -check for smooth shifting forward and reverse -check the lower unit oil it should be clear and heavy, if its a milky color it has or has had water in it and is a clear indication of a serious problem. -check the oil prior to and after a trial run. - check the skeg and prop for damage, if it has a brand new prop on it REALLY check the lower unit over good, even better is have a mechanic check it over. - always carry a spare prop in the boat and a prop wrench. make sure the prop is the proper pitch and diameter for that motor. - if its oil injected check the injector tank for general appearance. do not go cheap on the 2 cycle oil and ensure its the proper oil for the motor ( most are tc3 type oils) always carry spare oil and recommend not mixing brands. - check the cam rollers on the throttle linkage on the motor, probably be 2 little roller assemblies that move in a slotted mounting bracket. check for excessive wear, easily replaceable but something to check. -- Hull, -if aluminum hull check for loose rivets -check the transom for oxidation around the motor mounts. - check any add on parts, transducers, exterior livewell pumps. -check any dents, or gouges in the bottom. -check contact points on the trailer, whether its a bunk type trailer or roller type. fiberglass hulls- check for spider web cracking/checking check for blistering ( common problem with glass boats that set on a dock without bottom paint) push on the sides of the boat to check for weak spots. check for soft spots on the transom especially where any aftermarket things were installed. where are you located and what price range are you looking at? I know of a possible boat going up for sale, 19 foot center console glass boat, 90hp honda motor always stored inside, nice trailer, dual planer mast, 2 downriggers, fish finder, radio, gear, all in pretty nice shape and can probably be bought right.

  4. The area between where rob is and S. Bethlehem, Feura Bush going out to Clarksville has some real BIG bucks ! Yup, just drive around those areas and you will see some jaw droppers for sure. Hit all the back roads!! There are still some older farm guy's that could use help with work and chores. You may have to knock on 50 doors. But all it takes is one good property and a bit of hard work to secure a big buck hot spot!!! Get off the beaten path!! Look for a place that looks like it could use a helping hand!! No it aint easy gaining permission. But nothing worthwhile ever is.

  5. Don't forget boat stands for Break Out Another Thousand. It depends also on what you intend to use it for fishing and pulling little kids on a tube occasionally or pulling a 250 pound waterskier. I have a 18ft bowrider with a 190 horsepower I/o and I love it, power to spare. You also have to decide on fiberglass or aluminum if you go bowrider, aluminum is a lot lighter to tow around but fibreglass is a lot smoother riding boat. Lots of choices good luck! 7. Anyone hanging stands yet in prep for this season? I put my first one up today. I'm getting more and more excited with every passing day. Went for a drive around the area last night with my buddy and I couldn't believe it. We saw 6 good bucks all together in a alfalfa field around 730 last night. There were 2 that are already 130 inches. I couldn't believe my eyes. Only about 3/4 of a mile down the road from my house too! I've never seen that many bucks together in NY before. Or that many big ones for that matter! Out west was a little different but it gets my blood pumping to see that here! Anyways....who else is getting those stands up!? 8. Anyone else getting much bear action on camera? I just pulled a card last night and found a momma and cub on my cam! The cam was actually almost torn off the tree too...my cable lock kept it on there but pics make it look like the cub tore up the strap and was messing around with it. Here's a few pics I thought were cool! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. You should have purchased the cam from me. I am a Browning dealer. The Strike Force is a picture taking machine. Check to see if your Elite takes pics after you turn the camera off (and SD card still in). One user here reported that. Curious if you experience the same issue.

  12. It is nice to have that large platform to fish from. But, it's a pain in the ass to have the boat constantly spinning out of position while you're trying to cast to a shoreline.

  13. I don't usually make any type of political posts at all, but I needed to say something. As I was walking by the break room at work, I noticed Hillary on the television. I didn't hear a word that was said, and only say the tagline running across the screen. "Hillary Clinton calls for Justice Reform" OK... Hillary Clinton, who just got away with treason because "She Didn't Know" she was breaking the law mishandling classified information, is calling for Justice Reform? Anyone else find this to be completely ridiculous? I spent many years in the military handling top secret material. You can't even imagine the penalty if I, even as a 19 yr old soldier, "mishandled" classified material. I really have no words, and I truly weep for the future of this country.

  14. I have done a lot of fishing from a pontoon boat- my brother is quadriplegic and uses a power wheelchair, so pontoons are the only type of boat that he can get onto. They are not ideal for fishing from. Really hard to keep properly positioned while drifting, even with a trolling motor. Also really tough in any kind of wind.

  16. When they find themselves feeding on certain crops or food sources, I'm convinced they will have a preferred bedding area nearby for that location. There are features of certain bedding areas that they prefer involving cover, wind currents, visibility, escape features. But I also am sure there are many places in the woods, thickets and brush-lots that provide those features and not just one special spot.

  23. Actually mine was my biggest buck to date..I was hunting state land and was playing on my phone until it just about died....didn't want to be without it so I quit playing. Was really warm out was wearing just a black t sitting on my jacket. Well nature called so I stood up turned around and took a pee. I was just sitting under a pine tree. Well I turn3d around and a 8 pt was walking right to me nose to the ground so I kneeled down and grabbed my 12g and waited for it to hop the creek to me. Shot it 2 times for good measure about 15 yards from me. Wierd hunt for sure Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

  24. No FB for me either, I have enough friends and don't need to rekindle old friendships. I was a "member" for a short time while working on a high school reunion committee. The ease in finding (or being found) by old flames led me to believe there was nothing good going to come out of FB for me, only trouble.

  25. So here is the process so far of building dad the best hunting shack for those cold /wet/windy/snowy days. Been talking about this for years and have finally broke the ice. Still have finishing touches left but excited to have a place for dad and the grandkids.

  31. As an active houndsman it is no excuse to continuously let dogs loose onto other peoples property. Sure it happens on occasion but if the dog is not trained to stay on your property then tie it up. Don't take it out on the dog though. It's the owner that's not training it right.

  32. I started July 1st hang 30 plus takes me about 2 months..then I am out of the woods starting sept 1 and no one goes scouting . Oct 1st the woods are Virgin to man..lol. seems extremely paranoid but I have a large piece surrounded by mamy small camps they show up a month before and hammer stands , atv scout, trim trails and just slam car and truck doors as well as fire up those chimneys . The deer alert and head for peace and quiet which my propertyprovides them.. over 25 years it's proven itself time and time again. . Trail cams get moved to fields and logging roads..

  34. That's cool stuff right there! I was hoping to get a pic of mine standing like that but no luck yet. I will say I am now a little worried about my kids playing around outside with a cub around and momma in tow. I don't think there will be a encounter as they are supervised 99.9% of the time....but kids are kids and do slip out of your eye sight on those dang powerwheels down the trail into the woods for a minute before your running down after them. Hopefully the Bears keep their distance from the house. We shall find out! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  35. Are you going to keep it in a slip somewhere or towing it lake to lake? That'll make a big difference in your choices, IMO. A pontoon boat looks like a PIA to tow/launch etc. Also, although they look like a superb family boat, I bet they're a bear on a breezy day. Tough to control while fishing/docking etc. I'm sure you'll get some more feedback.

  42. Nice looking pie, Grow! My grandmother used to make a lot of different vinegars: dandelion, plum, rhubarb, crab-apple, horseradish... They pickled a lot of the food from their farm, both meats and veggies, so she knew which would work best to compliment the basic flavors and textures. She did a wicked sauerkraut that was actually closer to Korean kimchi. A sinus experience for sure, especially with breakfast! She never had a problem motivating a bunch of teenagers to get into the field.

  47. It's all good...I have a friend who is a forester and another who works in the woods for one of the largest log buyers in the state, so I am fortunate to be pretty keyed in to logging in the park. I was just trying to make sure that the OP didn't wander on to private property and get himself in hot water. I would love to see the state do selective logging on state lands- it would be a boost for local economies, put more money in the state budget (to be wasted) and provide more food for the animals. No way that will ever happen with the APA in place and I am sure that the state would find a way to mess that up.
