So our son has been working his tail off for us doing all the poultry chores we throw at him and then some all summer (including 5am wake up call) on top of putting in hours at another small farm that go towards getting into the Junior National Honor Society, and 4-H and being a kid. I decided that he needed some type of reward and I had a good idea of what to get him. I already had the caliber in mind and all that was left was the gun choice. Being his first rifle and that fact that he is 12 I figured a 7mm-08 and a Tupperware stock would fit the bill nicely. I ended up with the Savage Axis and had to special order it because he is a southpaw like me and no cares about us leftys, lol. We we surprised him with it today, made him close his eyes and open them when I placed the gun in his hands. Of course we ran out back and fired a few rounds and he loved it. He is on the hook for the scope, I always teach my kids that hard work is rewarded and that you are responsible to earn the things you want in life. He saves every dollar he earns walking dogs and what not and has enough for a serviceable scope already. So proud of my boy, this is a big day for a dad. Now we we are off to a minor league ball game!5 points

So I've posted on the forums before about playing Cornhole(bean bag toss game) and tried to extend my playing time at night. Looked at battery operated light sets and such but then saw these light pods on Amazon. $25 you say, huh Amazon. Ill show them. So I worked 6 hours today and came home to a 2x2 sheet of 3/4" plywood. Grabbed a picture of these things and a pencil and ruler and got busy. Again as the title states, I AM NOT a good carpenter but I'm pleased with how they turned out. The wood was laying around and I bought the LED lights at Harbor Freight for $2.99 each. All 4 lights ( 2 for under the boards and 2 for my light pods) with tax was less then $13. Now we can play at night and will be taking them camping next week. Heres the pic I used as a reference5 points

With the new road that i had put in a couple months back with a dozer i was able to access a high point on my property. Grass was close to 3 feet and i was able to mow it down to a few inches with my tractor and finish mower. Now i have another open area i can use for a future food plot or leave as is for its new grass growth. I was also able to connect this field with one of the new food plots of clover and rape that i put in a couple months back. Beyond that little circle cluster of trees is where the food plot is, which is now connected to the field in the foreground. Im hoping this area will be productive as its very secluded and sits high in elevation. pics are sideways.4 points

I can't shoot them in any of the bows i shoot so it seemed like a no brainer to me. I could use a little good karma right now though,i got bit by something in the ankle while cutting the lawn yesterday and i'm debating about going to the MASH care to have it looked at .4 points

The title may b a little misleading as we are not roughing it, but more into "glamping" . Set up the tent this afternoon and sprayed all the seams. Had a little refreshment afterwards too. Headed to Fish Creek Pond (Saranac Lake area) on August 16th and it can't get here soon enough. Anyone else heading out this month to tent camp?3 points

If you shoot her in September or October she isn't there to get bred and carry those. 1-3 fawns. Having a preference one way or another is fine but that logic won't hold.3 points

Every time you hunt the area, you drop your chances at a mature buck. Heres the real issue, a bow is not a good way to knock down doe numbers. You want the numbers knocked down, make 2 weeks of gun season antlerless only, or put an early September muzzleloader season in place with a couple of weeks gap between that and the bow opener.3 points

Showed back up again, this year with even more mass than before it seems, as well as some "junk".. i have history with this deer back to 2013, that I'm aware of. This fall he is 6.5yr or older. in 2013 he is at least a 3.5yr old.. Still have a few cards to pull. hopefully the other 2 old guys are on them..3 points

One shot tonight....no more spots..time to start shooting for the vitals. A little left at 35 tonight, would rather it been dead center in the pump house! Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk3 points

After reading this I went down and grabbed a muzzy MX3 of my bench "not what I shoot I shoot slick tricks but I had an mx3 practice head on my bench" screwed it on went outside shot a field point aimed at the arrow and shot the mx3. My fletch are not indexed with these because I shoot a different head and these are 3 blade and ST's are 4. This group was at 32 yards. I'm glad it wasn't a slick trick because I would have been out a 10$ arrow. Not trying to argue or start a fight but it is absolutely possible to make a bow shoot fixed blade broadheads shoot with field points. It's a long ways from easy and takes a ton of time. I planted an acre this morning.....75 pounds of seed, 150 pounds of 15-15-15...Broadcast the seed and fertilizer with my buddy's ATV broadcaster and then did a light discing to work it in.. I am currently praying for rain for prompt germination... IF we get some rain soon, and IF we get a "reasonable" amount of rain, and IF we don't get an early frost, I may have mature grain by the end of September. Other wise, I still hope to have enough high nutrition greens to benefit the deer, plus improving the soil in that plot for whatever I decide to plant there next year.2 points

I'm assuming they are the same. Got more coyote pics this year than buck pics. Also had doe and fawns and a turkey.2 points

Ive taken a few deer from there already along with a bear, just try to enhance the property each year by doing little or big things to better my experience and support the wildlife. I get alot of satisfaction from working the land. I have to say being high on a mountain and being 16 feet up in a ladder stand, the views are breath taking. Youll have to take my word for it, its an awesome view even if you dont see deer. Haha, good one.2 points

7mm mag cross hairs on the top of it's back will cover all your setups except the 400 yard stand situation. already picked up a scope but I'd have opted to use regular reticle on a better Burris scope for the money. Seeing how you're happy with Burris.2 points

I agree that it is an ugly rifle out of the box. I changed the handguard to a longer one, and added offset sights with a Nikon scope, and I think it prettied it up some.2 points

I honestly don't know how much longer the party can keep covering for her. People can hate on Trump all they want, but he and his kids are running a private business conglomerate that makes almost a million bucks a day, and you don't do that if you're mentally defective and prone to "short-circuiting". Clinton is off the rails.2 points

I disagree more hunters means more deer take witch means more doe also...I'm pro inclusion big time and think that if they ar3 even considering an early mz season then xbow should come first. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk2 points

I checked 4 TC's and one was never turned on . Hadn't checked them in almost 2 month's . I thought one cam was screwed up because the batteries were good but it stopped taking pics after over 3300+ . Did the math . Pics were 1.2 mb and card was 4GB so 4000 didided by 1.2 = 3333 pic capacity .2 points

Go get a cheap ladder stand from Walmart..... Dig a ditch 3ft by 4ft right at the base of the ladder..... Go to Home Depot.... Buy bamboo..... Sharpen 12 inch long spikes... Rub tips of spikes with garlic and rotten fish..... Place spikes facing up in ditch.... Get lots of thin sticks and cover ditch then spread a little dirt and some leaves over the sticks...... Have a seat about 100 yards away and wait for screams you will find your purp real quick Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

well, here are my first two arrows after not touching the bow for a couple of weeks. Looks like I need to practice. First target at 18 yds, next at 27.1 point

Much to often there is bickering amongst us, about what we hunt with and how we may go about hunting, or what may be different from how we hunt. But you know what? We are still a brotherhood, that has more in common with each other, than most of the non hunting population. And with the display of generosity and true sportsmanship seen here, the future of hunting is bright!1 point

We're gonna get the shipping figured out tomorrow. The bow doesn't do anyone any good just sitting on my shelf . It's actually the first brand new thing I ever bought when I got a job and started working . Had it on lay away at Johnsons country store for 3 months. It would be really cool if Rob gets a deer with it too.1 point
