Spent three nights camping in the Adirondacks near Long Lake. The lake we were on had a decent number of loons, pretty happy with what I was able to come away with. Here's a small selection of images, all shot from a kayak.

I'm not going too far into this thread but I will say, the bow kill% and gun kill% stay the same for a reason. It has nothing to do with attitudes, it is as simple as difficulty and total hunters. If you want to increase bow kill%, increase the season and add crossbows. The % will not be huge but it will increase and if you really want to see an increase change to a segmented season like the aforementioned states, Ohio to name one. Most gun kills are done the first few days of a season so there is a possibility that you could increase the gun kill% by offering multiple "opening days".

Should be throwing his words at me. lol I will shoot a doe when i can drive up and pick it up in my truck or wheeler. Not drag it 6 hours out of some gorge somewhere where i am hunting my trophy buck at. When the time is right and the place is simple i will fill my doe tags.

Don't waste your time or typing on arguing with Stubby. He has set views of anyone that hunts with a bow. Whether they are accurate or not, he will continue to define anyone that hunts with a bow by his narrow view. That has become very evident.

I like to let bucks get to the ripe age of 4 years old but we all know how hard that is unless you own a serious piece of land. This property is 25 acres surrounded by hardwoods and farm fields...along with many other hunters. Chances are slim bucks like this make it through any year around hunting pressure. Anyway I am curious to hear what others think the age of this buck is and what it might score out of velvet? I am thinking 3.5 years old 125-130 inches.

I'm among the WALLET guys.. My wallet goes everywhere with me. I hunt deer, turkeys, geese, ducks, rabbits , squirrels, upland game birds, and I do a lot of fishing( which is on the same license). There is no particular piece of gear that goes with me in all of those endeavors, other than my WALLET... I have never had a wallet go through the washer, but I have taken a few unscheduled dips in creeks, rivers, lakes and swamps.

I'm glad I have phone numbers, addresses and other ways to contact friends I've met here in case the site goes away.

Yeah, I love hearing them. The second morning the fog was like pea soup but you could hear them singing to each other around the lake. Last night I went down to the beach at around 11pm to shoot star photos and they were calling then as well, they were still at it when I was drifting off to sleep at around midnight.

front legs are way way too long and gait is wrong for a fisher, fisher front legs shorter than rear, even ambling they have a weasel rolling gait, tail is very long and up curving which is feline trait, weasel family tails stay straight when they move they don't arc. that's a long haired black cat. I'm all for due process.. However these are not choirboys that the cops are dealing with, including the poor underprivileged youth who stole a car and happened to get his slimey ass shot because he ran from the police. He probably deserved worse than that. These police officers are putting their life on the line every day protecting John Q. Public. They deal every day with people who would just as soon cut your throat or steal everything you own as to look at you. They do the CRIME they are taking their chances...

Well , Stubby , I hunted the 1st two weeks last year in 8F & 8H when it was doe only . Never got a shot until the opening day of gun season and I took a doe . It was the only shot I had all season . If I had an opportunity to fill my tags I would have . Does , bucks would be meat in the freezer . And , Stubby , if you are 5'10" , there must be another reason for the nick name ! Hmmmmmmm .

We seem to forget that the first two weeks of October were an afterthought after gun moved to Saturday to appease that loss. A DECALS/online licensing system that is amongst the worst in the nation; including a change of vendor that made no tangible improvement over the acknowledge weaknesses of the first version Outright refusing to acknowledge other options for antlerless harvest - such as OTC tag use, removing consignments, and eliminating the Nov 1 second application timeframe. Inserting the two weeks of antlerless without even tinkering with the right tool to do that job Repeated, regular failures to adjust operations to account for KNOWN deadlines - such as the BS that transpired with the regs book this year Poorly handling the AR topic and taking years to provide a stance - not even based on the actual studies they said would guide their decision making process. I am sure there are others I am forgetting... These people have the best job security in the state. I am sure their jobs are NOT easy, but let's call a spade a spade here. Accountability lapses abound.

G-man all this urban areas you keep mentioning...Have you ever toured around places like 8N and 8H even? because I live and have lived and worked in both these areas..Exactly what is your particular definition of "urban" ...I ask because much of what I see is rural...I also have a fair grasp on hunter attitudes from ppl in these areas and they may differ from those of ppl south of us..I'm talking general public attitudes, which does make a difference in hunting availability.

Thanks Mike. I am becoming a better shot primarily because I shoot the recurve so much. I truly believe that trad shooting teaches you the required form to be better with a compound. I think one can become decent with a compound even with poor form, but not so much with the recurve, so the latter has really helped me. I still have a long ways to go though.

Heres the thing I see. Guys like you that rattle off with this bow hunters dont give an inch nonsense do two things. First, you categorize all bow hunters right in with the hardcore minority that doesnt want to allow crossbows. Thats just painting with a broad brush, and ignorant. There are plenty of guys that bow hunt that support crossbows, full inclusion, and helpped support groups like NYCC to get crossbows legalized. Second, you put anyone that hunts bow season into the category of "bow hunter", like its the only thing they do. The vast majority of guys that bow hunt also hunt gun season and many hunt ML season as well. I started bow hunting to extend my season. It doesnt really matter if I take my does in bow season or gun season, I get to a certain number of deer in the freezer and I stop killing does anyhow. You sit here and spout your lines about how everyone should get along, we need to have a united front, etc etc, but all you do is throw bow hunters under the bus, classify them all as unreasonable elitists, etc. The real bottom line, in this subject, is that the most effective weapon should be put to use to solve the issue. The DEC tried playing politics with it, and it didnt work.

This has been the case for a long, LONG, time. Most criminals, especially those in gangs carry handguns. Easily concealed and and to run with/get rid of. I have no issue with NICS. I do believe in "Constitutional Carry". If You pass the NICS then you should be able to buy a handgun the same as a long gun. It's gotten so silly that now to buy certain ML's you have to pass a NICS check as well. But, Billy Badguy can buy just about anything he wants off the street. Even fully auto rifles. and worse. I feel all this gun laws are actually doing more to help criminals then the law abiding citizen. As said, as more laws are passed the bad guys are getting more brazen, that's not a good thing. I am not in the mood to get into the LEO debate right now. Sorry.

Yes, in a nutshell. I'm close to completely giving up. Old format was mirror image on phone to regular computer. Computer is relatively easy to navigate. Phone , not so much. Always have to press one thing or another to get somewhere on phone. Trying to find messages, threads I've posted in. I've had to resort to going to history on phone to find threads. I can no longer post pics as of the other night. I go to choose file and somehow pics are too large now. Tap talk is not for me either. I changed my settings to not receive emails upon new posts on threads I've post in simply because I give up and don't really care to deal with it. I'll be smoking banana peppers stuffed with chorizo , cheddar cheese , dash of dry rub and wrapped with bacon later and no pic for " what's on your smoker " , having a beer while doing so and then there's the what's for dinner thread. Sorry , no pics for either of those 3 threads . And now I can't even post a pic of Heidi Klum and Mila Kunis still in my bed upstairs while I make them breakfast

I use Sweets. Recommended by a 'smith that built a very nice rifle for me. Nothing to be scared of, just don't want it to sit for extended period and looks like you know that. I use some general cleaner to get rid of powder/carbon; Sweets, and then more general cleaner to remove that......just a more aggressive chemical then what you are using. If the bore was rough and the copper has filled all the micro sized pores and scratches, you may be pulling blue patches for a long time.
