Went out for an evening hunt, nothing showed up on the kill plot, light south east breeze. Have to drive the family 6 hours to chataqua county today, so I pulled the plug at 645. My dad was at the cabin about 600 yards away making noise, working on the cabin. Walking down the wood road, stopped to look at our big plot which we mowed 2 weeks ago, there's a dozen deer in the field. This is less than 100 yards away from where I was sitting. Then I see a rack turn the corner, make towards the oak tree 15 yards away, so I freeze. He goes into the hedge row, and I hear munching. So I pull up the face mask, nock one, and slide over behind a big poplar. I know exactly where he's going to step out, but it's last light. Munching stops, I draw, he steps out, stares at me from under 20, and I watch the luminok slap home. Looked good, but didn't pass through. Saw him run and knock the arrow out on a tree. Thought I heard him crash. Back out, check again in 45, found the arrow, blood was excellent. Magnus Stinger went right through and poked out the other side. Got done butchering around 2am.26 points

On the board! My daughter’s first time hunting from a tree thanks to a member here. Not the biggest but she made the call. She was shaking like the best of them, most fulfilling hunting experience of my life!24 points

8j and my son turned 12 in April this year. He was excited to bow/duck hunt in the first place and then when they lowered the gun age he was even more so. He got his very first duck on youth/veterans weekend up north 3 weeks ago. We bow hunted last weekend and he is gun hunting for the youth Columbus day weekend. We are trying a bean field this morning, bumped a few setting up but then saw a really nice 6 at shooting time. He just stayed out of range I was comfortable letting him shoot and also worrying about backstop issues. The having to be on the ground rule is pretty tough with a rifle and angles.21 points

Pretty short and sweet story. Hunted Sunday PM with my son and we had an amazing sit. Saw piles of deer and even had some big bucks in the field. Unfortunately none came within bow range ( although my son said I should shoot them ) Got home and happen to check my cam and saw a giant bodied deer in a different field than the one we had sat in. I immediately wanted a closer look. I loved the fact he was a loaner away from all the herd we saw. Thankfully, the wind for that stand was perfect Monday so I hit it for an afternoon sit. The rest is history. He came out textbook the way he did the night before and I had a 17yrd shot. I waited in the stand for my dad and son to show up, and my son made short work of the track job. What an experiance to have 3 generations involved in! Thankful to punch a tag so early and be able to get some stuff done before gun season. According to the PA chest girth chart this buck dressed at 180# which was verified by an actual scale. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk20 points

I got up to the top of the winery property this morning and there was a youth hunter already there. So, I pretty much just circled around and pulled cards and left...20 points

I found a little time yesterday to bring my shoulder mounts into my office. That plus a few momentos to remind me of home, and I’m thinking it looks pretty darn good.18 points

We learned a lot from this morning, moved the pop up to the middle of the bean fields and covered it in corn stalks. Proud to say my son just dropped his first buck ever. Pics shortly...15 points

Straight through the shoulder blade, poked out the other side. And that's why I switched to fixed blade!9 points

Well its here!! As I was mowing today I was thinking about all the ideas I had years ago in hopes to make our land the best it could be in preparing for my son being able to hunt. Now the youth hunt was age 14, well with the change its here tomorrow at age 13!! All the ideas and work my dad brother and I have done for the last number of years getting ready for this moment!! Hard to believe its here and another hunting first is in the books. His long gun hunting carrier begins! 1) plush food plot - check 2) redneck 5x6 blind over looking food plot - check 3) 7mm-08 locked, loaded and dialed in - check Now we just need the bucks to show up!!7 points

My bad, kill the other thread! I had a great morning, a spike and another small buck came in a and fed on acorns for almost an hour, then a lone fawn joined them. They stuck around a while then moved off. Maybe an hour later a doe busted me about 60 yards out (definitely wasnt taking a selfie like a 13 year old). She stared for a long time and finally came in. She walked behind my 33 yard tree and stopped broadside at what I decided was 40. As always its all a blur but I believe she wheeled at the shot because it went in high and back and exited her hip. After a long blood trail and a short grid search I found her. She may be the biggest doe Ive killed4 points

Whoops, posted in the wrong thread. Copy and paste Really thankful for the extra half hour of shooting light! So while I'm putting on my boots at the truck I see eyes glowing from my headlamp about 30 yards away. A spike, a doe and a fawn stop and stare at me for a minute and continue on their way sort of in the direction of my stand. I sneak over to my stand and about 5 minutes after the new shooting time I see movement straight ahead. I have to assume it's the same group of deer but now there are 2 adult does, 1 clearly bigger than the other. The spike hangs around for a couple minutes at like 10 yards from me. He starts to walk away very cautiously and the smaller doe just about catches up with him. Had to be super cautious standing up and drawing back with 4 deer within 20 yards but I pulled it off. The spike was hanging around and stomping for another half hour trying to figure out what happened. What more can you ask for on opening day! 99.6 lbs dressed Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk4 points

My oldest son talked his siblings and a couple others into donating to buy a CuddeLink cell camera set for my 80th B'day . We set them up in Geneseo a couple weeks ago . I bought the Verizon 2000 pic package for $20 plus tax . I can cancel whenever I want and will probably keep paying through December . The set has a Home camera and two remotes . It's pretty neat to get pictures and a report sent to me via e-mail from 50 miles away . Since the cameras cost $600 , I spent a little over $100 for lock boxes . If I am really happy with the results , I have enough gift cards to buy another camera to the set .2 points

We moved this stand to the thick stuff, below a small ridge. Shots will be close. But this is where we need to be, based on everything we've put together. It's not perfect, as access, and wind direction is the key, but it's close. This may be my gun opener spot? A cut between two big THICK bedding areas, that we never set foot in. About 200 yards to the left from the top picture. If I don't get him from one spot, hopefully I will from the other? Time will tell? Or perhaps I'll shoot the first decent one that comes in? I was quite humbled last year.2 points

Biz is right had a good one coming through the thick shit. Either a hickory nut or a big acorn… pretty sure hickory nut… hit him square in the back… he bolted faster than hell. Sad and funny all at the same time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

All settled in for a few hours in 7F. No deer for me yet. Just heard my first shot of the morning. Hopefully some young hunter just connected on his or her first deer and made a memory that will last them forever!! Hope everyone has a great day today!!!2 points

Son and I got in the redneck at 5:30. Idea was if we bumped anything off the plot we’d have over an hr for them to settle down. Didn’t hear any cleaning the plot. Fingers crossed!!2 points

Made it out for my first hunt of the year. Warm morning. Got a couple shooter bucks on trail cam (cell) last night, so they were moving! It would pain me to fill my buck tag so soon though! Don’t think there’s enough does in the area for me to want to shoot one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

How about those Red Sox? Wow. Sale gives up 5 runs and only pitches 1 inning. Houck keeps alive and we end up with 20 hits, 14 runs and MLB record By having 5 guys with 3 or more hits tonight. We stole a road game and Eovaldi game 3 Sunday. Anything is possible! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro2 points
