  2. A few of my family member went up to camp for last weekend. This is GianLuca's first deer hunt. I heard he was a real trooper but at times fell asleep in the warm temps. They are still at it today, hope he gets to see some action!!

  3. Just pushed a bunch of doe out to my buddy, at his place in Wheatland (8G). He got the biggest one. He's set for the year now.

  4. And couldn't shoot him! I'm tagged out for buck! I was making a slow push to my buddy to try and put a doe in his freezer. All we had was a 4H DMP and a landowner antlerless tag. So I'm going through some thick stuff, just sneaking, cause I don't want to bust the deer out. Want to get them out easy to my buddy. Same area I saw a big buck during bow and even got a trail cam pic of him. We didn't see him at all during gun season. So I see a deer jump up in front of me about 30 yards and stand there looking to my right. I pull up get him in my scope and see it's a big buck! And I don't have a buck tag! He stood there for a couple minutes and walked out past my buddy and his jaw dropped too! Last hunt for us this year. Hope he lives another year!

  5. Had lots of time on my hands, not worrying about butchering a deer. Thankfully I got one during bow season. So I definitely sympathize with all us not seeing a bunch of deer. Hope my cartoon puts a smile on your face. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk Not only am I a bad deerhunter this year, but lousy at the computer---hope you can turn your screen

  8. The 10.5 acre parcel bordering me to the west would be for sale. A lovely elderly couple owned the property. They loved the property as a camp should be loved. They had such wonderful memories of the camp but as time marched on so did the age of this couple. We became good friends and I helped them out as much as I could. A few skipped years at opening day had me worried. Health issues became a great problem for them. I received a phone call a few months ago from them telling me the place is going up for sale. They knew I would be interested and really they wanted me to end up with the place. It was unfortunate for them but a blessing for me because the property is a major bedding area that I knew if in the wrong hands could really hurt my hunting. The place consisted of an old single wide and a few out buildings. We agreed on a price and got the closing done last week. I have no plans for the trailer and offered it to them when ever they wanted to visit. I guess my point here is give what you can to others in life because one day it will come back to you. I always believed in this concept and will continue to do it. Just today my niece harvested her first deer at my camp off of the new property. FL-

  12. Reasons aside, this just shows how right DEC is. This low 2015 harvest, is unacceptable. It's definitely time to put an early (September) ML season in place, in the southern zone. We gotta knock those doe numbers down next year. We hunters just aren't doing our job. This herd is out of control! It's HUUUUUUUUUUGE!!!!

  14. I shot a nice 8pt, hit it low and back, look for 3 days with and with out my neighbor! my neighbor found it 3 weeks later, offered rack to me I didn't accept it,I lost it he found it,he had a great mount done with it and he hangs it in his trophy room , I didn't need a rack to remind me I messed up. I'm not that attached to any rack and was more upset I killed something slowly and it was wasted.

Was hoping it was a sign I might see something moving this morn but not yet! All I have seen is a red squirrel and a jogger The squirrel was too small and the jogger too fast!

  17. I'm on baby duty til 10 then I'll try to make something happen. I see I'm not the only one having a crappy season, although I do enjoy every hunt. In the 19 years that I've been hunting big game, this one just might go down in the books as the first year I didn't get any deer( I usually get at least 2-4). I'm loving being a dad to my 11 month old who is #1 above all else, so it goes without saying that my hunting time has taken a drastic cut. Also, taking a new job and moving 2 1/2 hours away in the middle of October didn't help the hunting situation since all I have to hunt up here is state land which I've had to scout-as-I-go. Wegmans might see me in the meat department more than I'd like to be!! Lol But that said, all is well on the home front and I'll be out there today at the closing bell with my rifle in hand. What more could a guy ask for! Let the guns sing today New York!!!! Sent from my LGL16C using Tapatalk

  19. Besides today, I've had two other close calls with this buck during bow. Just couldn't get the shot. And my buddy saw him once on the edge of a field at last light during bow. With the split right ear he is easy to identify. Next year, I hope to post a pic in the harvest thread with a big split eared buck.

  20. I can't add much I haven't had a bad gun season since the late '70s ' Tonight I saw ten deer in two hours . But i go where they are this time of year , I'm the thickest nastyest stuff I can find . Forget the open woods and fields get in the thick stuff and where they stage for darkness. I was sitting on a bucket in a spot I just picked out on my walk in . My bow and gun stands would be a waste of time in this part of the season . We all know the deers patterns change , so should yours .

  21. I feel bad for the guy who lost the deer. However, I don't think there is any doubt that the person who found it is the rightful owner of the rack. Who knows what his reason is for not wanting to sell it to the person who believes he killed it ? I'd say that it is his business.. Personally, I don't think it's worth getting too upset over a silly hunk of calcium, but that's just my opinion.

  22. Personally if I don't recover when edible I consider it a failed harvest. Would have no interest in a rack that reminded me I didn't get the job done. After 3 weeks, I would never think I had any claim on it at all.

  23. Figured I would shoot some more does since all my hunting partners cant see deer or cant hit them. Sheesh. Shot a pair. Not a bad year. Shutting it down for the season.

  24. Spot on. I don't know anyone who would like terrorists, aside from other ones . I try to judge people individually, not as a group. when i hear people talk about crazy gun owners etc, i let them know that just cause there are some mentally ill criminals who will break any and every gun law, don't judge me cause of that. i can't name one irresponsible gun owner that i personally know.

  30. If deer are dipping into your pocketbook, and you let that influence your opinion while serving as a CTF stakeholder, then I would call that an anti-deer bias. I think all of the financial interests that Cornell has established as members (stakeholders) of these CTFs could also be properly called anti-deer biased members. In the one narrow example that you noted, that matter really has no business being a decision of laymen. At one time that decision was made by educated biologists, but now they apparently have seen fit to hand over their responsibilities to laymen who have nothing more than self-serving uneducated "opinions". It doesn't become a question of whether a single isolated decision happened to come out correctly or not. It is the whole process that is flawed. We maintain a Department of Environmental Conservation to expertly study, recommend, and administer true scientific biological principles, not to hand it all over to the financial interests businesses to establish whatever is best for their pocketbooks. The DEC was never intended to simply be a "technical advisor" to a panel of entrepreneurs. And yet, here we are. That is exactly what they have carved out as their reason for being. That entire system stinks and is simply a method of shirking their responsibility and hand the decision-making over to a panel of squeaky wheels.

  32. Yes we see a lot of that mentality in government these days. If someone can imagine a negative scenario ..... Ban it! We see a lot of that in gun control mentality. Get rid of all things that have a potential for negative use or results. Kind of like guilty until proven innocent.....lol.

  34. those are the stories that keep us going back every fall. hope he lives and one of you get a shot at taking him next season. this seasons almost over so it's a real possibility. judging by the pic (and look at all that tarsal staining) he's seen some fall seasons draw to an end.

  35. No it's not bs all that Article is saying is that it drops from centerline of bore and that is true but to say "it drops" is incorrect because the bullet is still on an upward path just not on the same upward path as the centerline of bore.

  36. The time on that pic was 5:33 pm the night before the gun opener. 12 hours later, I was in a stand a short distance from this cam. Also hunted this general area a few times during the season and never saw him until today. I really hope he makes it to next year. He will be 4 or 5 years old then and #1 on my hit list. I may go after only him, all or nothing. He has already proved to be worthy of the challenge.

  37. One last time....Just because a white coat can take a syringe full of CWD prions and inject them into whitetail deer urine and then into a mouse does not mean that the whitetail deer itself can produce the prions in their urine. We have have a huge number of whitetails that were 100% positive checked for the prions in their urine and it just never happens. Ever! Now unless you can show 100% fact where the CWD prion was found in a wild or farmed whitetail deer stop throwing up a bunch of white coat research. I bet i could piss in a cup...Have a white coat inject the CWD prions into it and then stick it into a mouse and it would become a positive mouse. Does that mean that humans can make and spread the prions also??? No Facts...Just a bunch of test tube tests. Same crap thats been spread by politics for years and never proven to be reality in real life!

  40. Yup, no difference if after tracking for a mile and someone else shoots him. The rack is now with it's rightfull owner. Does it suck to be the shooter? Sure does, but he never recovered the deer, he just shot it. If the buck had died in a spot to never be found by anyone, he would be no worse off than he is now.

  41. Easy nov. 6 to nov. 10 . Bow season it's no problem to fill My freezer then, and often have a crack a nice bucks .

  42. I feel for your buddy, unfortunately I think the story will always have a disappointing ending. If the guy finally gives in and gives him the rack it's only a band-aid and doesn't change the fact the deer went to waste, wasn't tagged and isn't a successful harvest. The only thing that heals this, is time and redemption, he needs to go out and shoot another. Sorry to sound harsh, I just wouldn't be overly enthused no matter what.

  45. Have to ask them. Insurance companies aren't concerned about anything that doesn't effect bottom line significantly. And deer claims do not do that.
