Just got my first turkey (in like 7 years) second ever!!

Out in 9h overlooking a cut cornfield.....out with my two boys ....the first official sit for my 2 year old. We stalked/stumbled up on hh a doe and two yearlings feeding along the wood line but the boys wanted to see them....and the oldest gave them a pass for the evening. Lol!! Yesterday afternoon, slick Trick through the boiler room. Amazingly went about 75 yards with a center punch heart shot. Also pics. of two roasts from this big girl.

10/20/18 #2 I was called this morning by a friend who shot an 8 pointer with his muzzleloader yesterday evening. He was unable to locate any blood, but felt confident he hit it. He works midnights, so of course he worried all night about it. This morning after work and before going home, he went back to take another look. He found a couple spots of blood in the bean field, but couldn’t find any blood outside of the field to show him the correct trail to follow. He called me at 9:30, but I couldn’t get there until 2:00. Luna smelled the blood and the numerous tracks in this heavily browsed field, and picked a direction and we left the field. We went through a overgrown fallow field for 400 yards and entered the woods. As soon as we entered the woods she seemed unsure, so I picked her up and carried her back for a restart. We were walking along the edge of the bean field, very close to the hit site when Luna’s head whipped up and her nose went into overdrive. I stopped the hunter and told him we need to see what she’s smelling. I set her down and 75 yards later we were standing over a nice 8 pointer.

Got settled in a brand new spot with my climber on county land here in 4F. Beautiful spot,we will see if anything comes past before dark. I am just happy to be in a tree.

The reason we saw what we did with Kavanaugh, is because you haven't been voting in the mid terms. Anytime we do not vote for the right people, we get the wrong people. If voters in the upstate regions of NY ALWAYS voted, we would not see the totalitarian control of the entire state by NYC. Even if the city out voted us in a given election, if politicians knew every eligible voter upstate would ALWAYS turn out to vote, they would not be so comfortable trampling our rights, or disregarding our voices.

Hunted in central NY today, first break resulted in a missed shot, the second break was the charm. I killed a first-year male bird, my buddy shot a bearded hen (his first); it was also his first turkey dog hunt, he was thrilled. I love this dog!!!!!!

.44 Mag. Custom grips by the PhiloCustomShop, from which my screen name comes. I need to get that forend out in the sun a bit more. The grip stock is on there year 'round for woodchuck duty, but the forend stock doesn't get much sun during deer season.

Bowl of cheerios this morning. No milk, so I poured in a bit of Old Milwaukee. Somebody once called that beerios. I should add that I had been up writing since about 10:30 last night so this was more like dinner for me. Not sure this really helps my image at all. Especially buying the OM at 10 am from the gas station. The staff know I work nights and don't hassle me about it, but I get some weird looks from the customers.

Wow what a hunt with the turkey early, two small bucks came through just after, a Dow with two fawns shortly after then a big 8 showed up I watched him for an hour working toward me finally gave me a perfect broadside shot at 32 yards. I shot felt great right away and I proceeded to watch him full out drop to the ground and duck the arrow. It was unbelievable a true sight to see. Didn't touch a hair

I probably would not have voted in the midterms, but the recent lunacy and pure evil on display by the democrats, over the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, has changed the situation. Not only will I vote, but I will do all I can to see that others do also. Hopefully, we will see a big "red-wave" this November.

Did the haunted hayride at the farm today. 30 people, double axle 18' trailer, through the woods and up and down the hills..... Man do I LOVE my Kubota !! Did see a couple deer though from the farm house while we were hanging out, they walked right under one of my stands... Ah well. Also saw a couple zombie deer on the ride. Kids had fun. One (3yr old) nephew said it was the best hayride of his life, ever lol. Hopefully hit the hills of franklnville for the pm tomorrow. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Well, last night I sat a brand new spot I found this summer on state land. It's loaded with oaks and beeches so I knew I should see some deer. I wasn't there half hour and a spike came by, a single doe an hour and a half later (too far) and half hour before dark I was startled when I heard a commotion at the base of my tree, 3 deer had snuck right up through the beeches and with the wind I never heard them. I somehow got my bow in my hand and picked out the biggest one, I got drawn back as she turned quartering away to leave, I shot at 26 yds and noticed my lumenok kicked out funny before it got to the deer, I had deflected off of a beech whip I never saw, it hit her way back and she ran 30yds and just stood there for a minute. I figured the range at about 55yds so I adjusted my sight and shot and I connected solidly... With a big dead limb I thought my arrow would clear. At the sound she trotted slow up into the woods glowing with the lumenok. I knew it was a terrible hit so I decided to leave my climber there and quietly make a big wide loop back to the truck as to not disturb her. As I made it halfway back to the truck I bumped a doe out of the scrub apples at 20yds, as she took off I see my lumenok glowing and moving right toward the same opening! I froze and she stopped 25 yds away behind a stump and had no idea what was going on. Now it was at the very end of shooting light now, I nocked an arrow as fast as I could and Drew but I had to side step around that stump to see her chest, I moved left two steps and quickly put the pin on her and shot again. It was a solid thump and off she went again. As I looked for my arrow I saw my lumenok approximately 50 yds away moving up and down and disappear in the brush. I grabbed my arrow quick and quietly went back to the truck. My 2nd arrow had connected but it had an off smell so I made the call to give her the night. I went back this morning and right where I saw the lumenok disappear is where she lay dead. Her guts were cold which tells me she died pretty quick and I could've probably went in last night and got her but I played it safe. She dressed at 127#. I've always loved my dad's '54 336RC in 35 Rem. It's one of my most cherished connections to him since he passed. A lot of deer found their final resting place in our freezer because of that gun. Since I was a youngin', I've always coveted a savage 99 in 250-3000. A few days ago I won an auction on GB for my first 99, a '50 99R in 300 Savage. It is a very clean example with a factory original Redfield receiver site. I should have it in my hands in about a week or so. I already ordered ammo for it and hopefully, I'll have time to get it cleaned up and sorted out so I can carry it a few days this deer season. I still have my eyes out for a nice 250-3000.

Feels like a deer should die today. Had to break out my "heavy" jacket. Goodluck everyone.

So today was a interesting day. I had some clients to see up by camp and decided to check in. Got on my atv and went to check some cams. Didn’t see much just the 7 that i shot a few does and a bunch of yotes. Forecast was calling for rain so I wasn’t planning on hunting. Went back into the house to do some work and called the wife. She asked if I was going to stay and hunt, for some reason this made me decide to do it. I guess knowing she wasn’t going to be annoyed made it a little easier. Waited till my work cut off of 4pm and headed for the stand. Was in the stand about 15 min when I noticed some movement to my left in the thick brush. I lost sight of the deer and figured it was a doe headed up the hill. I went back to playing on my phone. I looked up about 10 min later and here comes this 7 point headed right for my orchard plot. He fed around not really giving me a shot for 10 min or so. Finally he gave me a almost broadside shot the slightest bit quartered to. I decided to let one fly. As many of you know the shot looked high and back. I watched him run off in the direction they always do when shot from this stand. Waited about 20 min and went to check the arrow. I was sick to my stomach it was gut shot. I figured I would mark first blood and back out. I found first blood and it looked pretty good. Went back to the house till 6, when I finally couldn’t take it any more. I knew the blood was good and saw how the deer reacted and went for it. Went to the sight of first blood and started my track, he crossed the narrow part of my radish plot and there was blood everywhere . Back in the woods and I’m following blood for another 10 yards when I look up and see him dead 30 yards away. Total distance traveled was 87 yards. I drag him back to the house and set up my hoist to butcher him. I start cranking him up when the hoist rope snaps. I muscle him into the back of my truck and go to put the quad away. I had left the lights on so I could see and crap the battery is dead. I took the key out pushed it behind the house and drove the deer to the butcher. Kind of sad as I really enjoy that part. A guy on the crossbow nation forum said that an $89 PSE model that he got from Amazon worked on his Sniper. Others on that thread said that they exchanged the hooks from the ones that came on their cranks, with those supplied with the Sniper rope pulley device, and it worked better.

Finally got around to using one of my Father's Day gifts. Let's hope the new boning knife and brats kit get put to good use in November!
