  7. I just had the textbook hunt I wish for every outing, he gobbled easily 75 times after he hit the ground. When he finally came over the rise he was facing me and gobbling right down my barrel at maybe 60 yards. He strutted and gobbled for a couple minutes then headed to my 2 o’clock and a hen was following him. He got to my right at maybe 45 and I promptly missed him. I’m sick. I did everything right but the important part lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  9. Sorry Tacks! I had the same scenario but I took my time, had to wait for him to get close, dropped him at 45 yds as the hens were leaving and he would have followed them away from me. I'll post some pics later. Photos aren't loading.

  11. Well after 9 weeks off recovering from my knee replacement I’m going back to work tomorrow. Between everything being locked down for covid and my knee only 30-40 % better and no major activity in the woods . I am looking forward to going back and getting out of the house and doing something different and back on a routine.

  13. I tracked and killed a Tom in 2004 in the Catskills on May 2nd in 7” of fresh snow. Maybe my favorite turkey hunt ever. Followed that bird for 3 hrs before he finally went to a spot where I could put the sneak on him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. Third day in a row on this bird could have killed him Monday morning but it wouldn't separate from a satellite so I passed on the shot and the birds got spooked by another Hunter. Yesterday morning he hung up at 50 yards i already passed up three two year olds and I just didn't feel right shooting at 50. So this morning I left the truck at 3 a.m. ease back in got low on hardwood Ridge by 430 had birds Goblin all around me but I finally heard his distinctive Hollow gobble when it was light enough to I think they would be comfortable on the ground I did a fly down with a handmade real wingfeather wing do really soft clucks on the bomber call set it down he was like a B-52 coming in for a landing his feet hit the ground at 25 yards and I could tell by the crappy beard he had it was the right Bird ended my season for New York Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk

  18. Don’t expect lots of gobbling or early fly downs. My and brothers experience is they don’t talk a lot and may limb hang longer than usual. But catch a bird on the right day and prove me wrong please. Today was approaching full moon and zero gobbles. Just something we’ve experienced.

  21. Yesterday.........went to my spot in Arcade. Got there plenty early and around 5:30am I had some very distant gobbling in an area I know well. Got as close as I dared as they were on the ground already and got set up. It sounded like an adult and a jake to my untrained ear. They appeared to be separated by 75-100 yards and I kept having to focus my attention on the one that sounded like the adult. After coming to probably 100 yards they headed towards a big open field, one that they like to head to and strut their stuff for their hens. I decided I'd better try and cut them off if possible so I backed off and circled down around towards the field. I made my set up ready and hit them with a couple horeshoe call yelps. I got some hot replies and here they come but my elation was short lived as the came to just below the crest of a little rise I was on and hung up, maybe 50 yards. They backed off and headed in a different direction this time! I gave them some time and devised a new plan. They were heading east and I knew that area good too, as I've been fooled just about everywhere on this block. I decided to sneak as best I could up the hill to a flat between two big fields but trying to not be exposed to the decent chunk of open woods between these two fields. Well I got into position and made a quick excited yelp or two on the mouth call with no reply, then after a few minutes I hit the crow call and got the same thing, NUTHIN'. Oh crap, here we go.......another dead end with henned up birds and and empty game bag. BTDT So I reached into my bag of tricks and pulled out the old Lynch box call and figured why not? It's always my last choice as I like my mouth calls better but I cranked out a series of yelps and holy kielbasa they hollered and close too!! I shimmied over to another tree about 15' away with a better trunk structure for that direction, it was risky as the gobbles were close but I went anyway. All was quiet for a couple minutes and I decided to scratch out another short series on the box and BAM, here we go, set the call down and up with the gun. Within seconds here comes two red heads, damn jakes. Then a big white head popped up, then two more red heads. The first two jakes were getting close, like 15' away and they started to putt putt. Damn, ok big white head gobbling Jake today is your day. About 9:15 AM No excuses, I shot a Jake and I'm proud of it. He had a 5" beard with a second beard 2" (2 1/8" for Bizzy) although it wasn't totally vertical it wasn't horizontal like his four other red headed buddies. I shot the bad ass of the group.

  22. VIDEO BELOW (click the gear icon or 3 dots for settings and put in 1080 HD) Here is an inside tour on my personal property where I have created a 1 acre hinge cut bedding area located right off of a small hidden pond and within a 130 yard proximity of some great buck bedding on a large point. This bedding area is 1 month old and will grow pretty quickly with the reduced canopy. There is a great deal of sun light reaching the forest floor and new shoots from the hinge cuts will grow vertically. This spot creates loads of natural browse while creating a safe haven for deer to bed in at all times of the year. I have 2 more 1 acre locations on this parcel strategically located, very similar to this one. I will have to maintain this bedding every year with trails and beds during shed season / spring time to ensure proper usage. In the process I released some very nice white and red oaks to benefit them and reduce their growing competition. I can see the light is already producing some good ground cover along with many, many white / red acorns sprouting with beneficial light that will aid in their growing process. stay tuned for more videos and feel free to reach out to me with any questions regarding improving your land or buying and selling land. PS: I do not recommend hinge cutting for everyone. Some parcels should consider starting out with some TSI and some select harvesting first. Its a good idea to know your tree species on your land and the value they have before reducing your canopy.

  28. I would have to go through them to remember for sure, but I know I have Two full 9.5 inch double beards, one 8.0" inch double beard, one quadruple beard with a main heavy beard and 3 smaller ones, and my personal favorite, which has a huge, thick paintbrush main beard and a smaller beard...I think there is another one or two, but I'd have to sort through my beard collection to know for sure...The quad beard was taken in Kentucky, one of the doubles in Canada( just last year) and the rest taken here in NY....

  33. That’s a nice double beard. A trophy for sure. Both beards look equal in length and thickness. Many times there is one solid beard and a few thin ones when you have a multiple bearded tom. But it’s the number of filaments that matters. One old turkey hunter once told me a multiple bearded bird is like shooting a buck with drop tines. My first bird ever was a triple bearded tom. 9.5, 8.5, 8. 3 solid beards. it was in 2011 in Schoharie County. A record book bird with the NWTF and SCI. I went turkey hunting for the first time and went with my dad who has always been an avid deer hunter but never turkey hunted. Beginners luck and the trip got us hooked on turkey hunting ever since. I know I’ll never match that bird. I got a full mount done.

  34. Found my new ride. Not as new as i wanted but its spotless with alot of good add ons. 2008 700r. Full skids, full fmf exhaust with tuner that was setup on a dyno. Rims and tires, pro taper handle bars, nerf bars, rear grab bar and front bumper, and a trail tech vapor trail readout. Incredibly clean and well taken care of. Only thing it needs is a new air filter. Very pumped, this thing hauls ass!

  38. yeah i know that's why i'm inconsistent. I have the primos tool and use it. I also think it's a pressure thing. My mouth and box are just always on point, but i get the best pur and soft yelps from my slate.

  41. Sorry to hear, squirrel. Your family is really being tested. Unfortunately, it’s not going away anytime soon, as all we did was suppress it for a bit. I fear people are about to act as if we did beat it. Yeast is impossible to find by me. In the city too. A friend had to order it from amazon. We’ve become a nation of bakers.
