  1. He was here making a low budget movie many years back , and I escorted him anywhere he went , sat outside his RV on the set and so on . Interesting experience , I hang out with his main security guy, his cousin Tracy, a great guy ,a fellow deer Hunter , who died of a heart attack a few deer seasons later . Most of the filming was at an old church ,in a very bad area of the city,I was often shagging drug dealers out of the set ,one night a guy was shot to death and another chopped up with a machete about 50 yards from his trailer . I was always armed with my Glock 40 and a 3 D mag lite . Oh and his Victoria’s Secret model wife was very nice ..... I also taught him how to use the Colt Gov. Model 45 used in the movie ,although I believe that scene was cut . Oh the movies name is After Image. The cloth stickers that i put on the CDs are used to ID you , the lower left one was from a concert a year later at Darian Lake , I went as his guest , that sticker allowed me go anywhere , the autographs on it are from a couple young female backup singers , that I ate dinner with in the caterers tent . I just came across these CDs after many years and thought I’d share .

  2. My workshop project today was a burnt wood American flag. Came out pretty nice after I finally gave up on making the star field myself. I tried carving the stars with a dremel tool and I tried carving them with a chisel. Both methods worked but did not turn out as nicely as I wanted. Definitely a lack of skill on my part. Plus, very time intensive. So I took to the interwebs and found a company that machines the star field and it really looks nice. It will be going up on the front of my barn after a poly coating.

  4. Title says it all, covid has allowed many including myself and others on the forum to dive into gardening. Last year was my first growing from seed I believe I had 80 plants plus watermelon, corn, zucchini and sunflower from seed. I started my first tray of 60 plants today and plan on starting about 200 seeds. Hope I have the same luck as last year minus the deer entering and destroying my garden at the end of September. Looking forward to doing more canning as well, I'm inspired by Otto.

  5. Hi, this is a little off topic. But the ad with the woman in the orange hair band “ a little more exciting “ ...is my mother. She is 84, she was 25 in the picture. I was wondering airdale if you actually have these! I would love to buy it for her! My married name is also Genesse, spelling is different but still, it’s all a little ironic, I must say!!! Thanks for any info!

  7. I had a 35mm camera I used to take hunting photos with about a decade ago that still had undeveloped film in it. I found this in the photos that came back from the developer. I took this cat at least 10 years ago. It went a little over 40 pounds.

  8. First shot daily? How about first shot ever!!!!! Thanks to@Swamp_bucks for the great deal and fast shipping. She’s super happy and wanted to keep shooting. We have a lot of teaching and learning to do but also 2 more years before she can hunt. #1 priority is to have fun and spend some time together. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. I don't support Full Inclusion but I don't fight against it either . When Full Inclusion takes effect , I will put away my compounds and let them collect dust . No sense in hunting with an inferior weapon . I can eliminate the need to practice all summer with my compound . I have a crossbow . I am satisfied with the way the season is right now .

  13. Remember When? As a youngster I thought it would be great to catch something that would make it in the Genny record book. From The Utica OD's John Pitarresi Louis A. Wehle was, among other things, a brewer. He brewed Genesee Beer. He also was a very dedicated outdoorsman. One day, he put those things together, and the Genesee New York State Fishing Contest was born. I admit that Genesee wasn’t my favorite beer, but I still have a vivid and startlingly wonderful memory of the two ice cold bottles of Jenny that I received in partial payment for several hours of cleaning the gigantic Hobart dishwasher at the Hamilton College commons on a hot spring day more than 40 years ago. No champagne ever tasted better than that, but the good feelings I have about Genesee beer have more to do with the fishing contest the brewery ran from 1946 into the 1990s. Each spring, in grocery stores, bait shops, and taverns across the state, you could findthe pamphlets for the contest. There would be a list of the previous season’s winning fish and anglers in 13 categories. The lures and baits they were caught on were included, along with some fishing tips, a list of state records, a fish identification chart, an entry blank and rules, and, best of all, a map detailing where all the top catches were made. I’d grab that thing, hope that some of the big fish had caught somewhere near my home, and then dream of fishing that spot. Which is something I rarely got a chance to do unless one of those red fish-shaped indicators nosed up to the midpoint of the Niagara River, which was about a half-mile from my house. There were these fish all over the place. The Finger Lakes. Lake Ontario. Oneida Lake. Wiscoy Creek. Chautauqua Lake. Lake Champlain. The Hudson River. I had only a dim awareness of most of those places, and had little hope of ever seeing them. Which maybe made it all the more exciting. The contest was the brainchild of Wehle, who had reorganized the brewery after prohibition. It was a big deal for many years, certainly were I grew up. I recently found one of the old contest brochures, from 1987. The grand prize cash awards were $75, $50 and $25 for the top three fish of each species. Strangely, in the listings for the 1986 winners, there were very few fish from Central New York. There was a northern pike of 15 pounds from the Mohawk River, taken by William Schultz, and a rock bass, also from the river, taken by Joseph Kiuber. Mike Stolarczyk caught a 5-pound, 9-ounce pickerel from the Black River that missed being the grand prize winner by five ounces, and Tami Stolarczyk placed third in rock bass with a 1-pound, 12½-ounce fish, also from the Black River. There might be other local anglers in there – hometowns aren’t listed – and there might have been other fish caught locally, because the indicators don’t always match up with the lists. I must have wished, as a little kid, that I might someday find my way into that list of winners. I know for sure, each year when I first saw that brochure, I got really fired up to fish. That was the real power of the Genesee New York State Fishing Contest, I guess. Getting people excited about getting out and fishing. The contest has been gone a long time, and Louis A. Wehle even longer, but they both did a great job for a long time.

  14. Bottom line, anything that will promote more hunters in the field is a good thing! I only bow hunt and I don’t pass judgment on any crossbow hunters. Irrespective of the fact that shooting a crossbow is was easier - who really cares? IMHO in less than 10 years - bow hunters will be the old guys & crossbow hunters will dominate. It is what it is. Everyone just has to relax with this argument. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. We didn't get a whole lot of snow this winter, but there was plenty of melt to fill my pond to full capacity (second photo). It was getting pretty low by the end of the summer last year (when first photo was taken), and the water depth was not much over a foot by December 1 of last year. I imagine that the herons got all the fish when it was down low. I will need to restock it this spring, with some fresh lake Ontario bluegills, to keep the skeeters under control. The creek that runs thru our place dries up every summer and this pond usually draws in some deer then.

  16. We had a fun trip but didn’t catch any fish. We fished both the Salmon River and Oswego River. We were starting to think the steelhead were just a myth to attract tourists (like the Loch Ness Monster) but the a guy near us managed to catch one. That was the only fish that we saw caught. I might try again this spring if I can get some free time.

Fourth was a little two point. Does anyone know what made these?there where hundreds of them on oak trees. There outside is made from oak leaves the inside had a spongy thing. 24. Setup some trail cams by the county office building. Best to use cell cams and watch for people coming out holding their arms. Then get in there quick before dark. As county workers are def heading to bedding areas by 4pm. Good luck Larry. Mostly it's just waiting for these to open and try to get signed up before they fill up. But more and more are coming out. Now your gonna have to look for clinics for cormobidities. County and local pharmacies are best options.

  27. Rob, if you want to shoot indoors, I go to Wildwood Archery in Eldridge. They are open on Saturdays 10am to 3pm I believe. At least you will be stretching you bow muscles a little. And CNY 3-D starts in a few weeks too! Won’t be long.

  28. I've been trying to get the vaccine for over a month now with no luck until yesterday! I try every day, several times some days.(when I remember) I go to the NYS web site first, then I try rite aid and cvs site. Only vaccines available have been in Syracuse or further from Buffalo. My wife got a call yesterday from a friend and she said that vaccines were available at the FEMA site in Buffalo. They must have just gotten a new shipment and within minutes almost all the appointments filled up. I managed to get an appointment for my wife on 3-18, and myself on 3-21. They filled so fast that it I couldn't get 2 appointments on the same day! I assume that they schedule the follow up shot at your appointment? Unless it's the new vaccine that is a single dose? They don't tell you which vaccine your going to get and you don't have a choice. I'm getting it because until this crap gets under control there is no way I'm stepping 1 foot on an airplane and I really need to go visit my son and DiL in So. Cal.

  30. Thanks for the info but I wouldn't want to infringe on ncountry's spot. I would probably have to eat the deer there because I sure as hell couldn't drag it out but thanks for the offer.

  31. Go to your county web site. Most are posting clinics there. Can call 211 for info on it. Also most of the news outlets have links on thier websites. Most local pharmacies are also doing shots but a lot of them book up quickly. Can also call the county dept of health they usually have info.

  32. So it comes down to you dont want more hunters after your deer. It's simple to say , ove watched compounds become legal to the horror of traditionalists, then the argument on let off allowed, the use of a trigger ( release) the use of brass pins to fiberoptic, to lighted. They all have come to be and the sport continues on with the changes if you use any if these improvements and are against crossbow then you simply just dont want competition, Almost everyone I know that uses a crossbow has shot a compound for years. The skill need to get into range and effectively take game consistant is what matters. If you cant take deer with a gun a crossbow will not help. Believe it a lot will give up quickly as the long shots will deflect or deer duck arrow. Its happens now 600k hunters and take is under 200 k. And we all know that so many hunters take 2 buck or multiple deer across seasons the number of successful hunters then becomes even less. A crossbow will not make someone a better hunter .

  37. Ideally, archery season would be split between "traditional", which would allow only recurves and long bows, starting on October 1st. Starting on October 15th, until opening day of gun, the "modern" archery weapons could be used, including compounds and crossbows. Such a structure offers something for most. The "real", traditionalists would get their peaceful, special time to themselves and the crossbow would get a bigger chunk of the season. The only ones who would might loose something, are the selfish, elitist compound only guys. I can't say that I have any sympathy for them.

  38. You literally said you don't want your public land flooded with lazy crossbow hunters. Do you not even know what you wrote? Again, answer my question, why should you be able to hunt with a bow but I can't hunt with a crossbow in the same season, why you can choose a bow but I can't choose a crossbow, why? BTW I hunt with a bow, but I also enjoy using a crossbow, im quite successful with both but why should I have another hunter tell me what to use ? I swear you bowhunter elitist are more detrimental to this sport then those tree huggers.

  39. A crossbow is easier to get good at shooting. But that’s not a bad thing. I would rather see a guy using a crossbow that shoots well. then a guy who brings his bow out 2 weeks before the season, and can’t shoot for crap and calls himself a bow hunter. I wonder how many guys would be in favor of having to qualify with there bow or crossbow every year to get your bow tags. Then see how many bow guys would switch to a crossbow because it’s easier to shoot.

  41. I started with a glove and shot fine with it. But eventually convinced myself that a tab would be a cleaner release. As much as I hated it initially I stuck it out and now would never consider a glove. To each his own but you won’t see any gloves at the top championships.

  42. Check the NYS site. They tend to open spots at 12am, 8am and around 8pm. Start checking an hour between those times. The pharmacies are only giving to 65 and over, so you'll have to go to vaccine hubs. I got my mother and brother shots using this method with in a couple days of checking. Make sure you bring the letter with you on the day though

  43. I'm not sure it's the right thing to do for everybody. I'm 65 and I have had the virus. Tired for a week with aches and pain in my joints with a mild fever of 100 degrees. Lost taste and smell for a month. Changed diet and took vitamins and zinc. Lost 15 pounds due to lack of appetite. Look and feel better now than I have in years. I know about 7 friends who've had the virus and feel them same as me. We all agree we've had flu symptoms in the past that were far worse. None of us is getting the vaccine. Rather let natural immunities build up and keep us healthy. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? I for one have never gotten a flu shot in my life. But I have always been very healthy, hardly ever getting sick. I'd rather take my chances with the flu then with something the government concocted to inject into people. Some of those flu shots killed people and a recent report from the NIH was just squashed because it said years of flu shots may be the reason for the increase is alzheimer cases today. I don't see this virus as a deadly threat like the plague. I see it as a virus that is far less deadly then most think it is. I'm concerned we don't know what the problems with the vaccine may prove to be.

  46. Quick story on that deer :I got in the stand ,20 minutes later I caught movement ,waited for a good shot and let it go .Text my buddy(his land )that I just shot one .He not a hunter so he got excited .Next thing I know he’s driving the tractor across the creek and into the woods .He shuts the tractor off ,all the sudden he starts yelling “I hear it ,it’s trying to run away “I’m like WTF to myself .I told him we need to leave and get out of there .I found him 120 yards the next day from where he bed down immediately after 30 yards from the shot .this is how I found it .Needless to say I won’t message him anymore until I have the deer in my hands lol.

  47. I started out with a glove, but switched to a tab and like that a lot more. Just fits my hand better and release seem intuitive. I have not picked up on shooting instinctive yet. I ended up going with gap shooting, mostly because it made sense when I started. I’ve been told instinctive will come along eventually. It is fine on a paper targets indoors, but it is harder on 3D targets outside. I shoot with a few guys weekly in an unofficial indoor league, they have all shot for several years. I am proud to say I am not in last place, and my average has gone up every week so far. Practice is the answer to any issue you have.
