I was able to spend a few hours with this old rifle, bringing it back to life. It really cleaned up well. I took some steel wool to some of the surface rust, and got a good bit of it cleaned off. I took the action out and soaked it in parts cleaner. It was pretty gunky, but nothing more than dirty old oil, it came right of. I gave everything a liberal oiling and then wiped it down thoroughly. I took some nitro polish from my guitars to the wood, and the finish that is left on it seemed to soak up the effort. I’m really very happy with it. It was really fun to revive a gun that will turn 70 years old in less than a year. The scope mount is an old swing top Pachmayr, which is a pretty cool piece. As long as I can get the scope to sight in, I’m going to leave everything “as-is”. I did shoot it last week, and it handled the three rounds I put through it flawlessly. I’m looking forward to getting it sighted in.8 points

Global economic indicators for 2020 show every country in the world suffered a 10 to 20% reduction in their economy because of the pandemic, except for China. It's economy gained 15% in 2020. That is a lot to consider a coincidence and elevates suspicion this was totally intentional. When the facts point to possible intent, why are the Dems and the leftists in the US so averse to any investigation into the matter? Could it be they are all in bed with the communists with regards to China dominating the world?5 points

Here it is in the rough. I did get a chance to run a brush and patch through it, and was able to light the bore. The first couple of passes with and brush pulled out what I thought was rust, but I think it was just dirt and dust. The bore is nice and shiny, and what I originally thought was bluing issues actually looks like surface rust, which a little steel wool should make easy work of. I bought all of the ammo the shop had today (5 boxes) and am going to try to run a couple through it tonight at my brother in law’s house tonight. I can’t wait to get back home with it so I can really tear it down and give it a good cleaning. I was also able to date it at April of 1952, so first year of production in this caliber5 points

So, I'm back in Illinois visiting family over the next couple of weeks. Yesterday I stopped by to see my mom at work (she takes care of a local old couple, the wife has pretty severe dementia). The old man, John, is a heck of a guy, a local old farmer, and just the quintessential 80 year old story teller. Needless to say, any chance I get to sit down with him for a little bit, I take it. Yesterday, we got on the topic of guns, and he started bringing out some of his stuff. He has a lot of guns, which is surprising, since he never was much of a hunter outside of shooting farm pests and stuff. However, a lot of his guns have been shot very little, and just stored in closets, in the basement, on the back porch, and are not in great condition. In fact, we pulled out an old Winchester 12 with most of the bluing gone and literally covered in cobwebs (a shame to see). Anyways, I asked if he had anything that would work as a deer rifle (Illinois is shotgun only) and he said he might have something. We ended up pulling out an old Remington 760 Gamemaster in 300 Savage. It's not in collector condition, but doesn't look to bad, just some scuffs and dings on the wood and bluing issues. I didn't have my bore light, so I couldn't check that. It also has an old J. Unertl "Hawk" 4x scope on it, and it looks pretty clear to my eyes. He said he bought it back in the '60's, shot it a few times and put it up because it was too powerful for anything he needed. I asked if he might want to sell it, and he said "Tell you what, take it home with you and see if you can kill a deer with it. I'll let you know if I ever want it back." So, it will be coming home with me, along with a Savage 24 in .22/20 that my dad is giving me. I can't wait to tear into both of them and get the cleaned and oiled. I'll try to take some before and after pictures of both. I think the biggest challenge on the 760 is going to be finding ammo Regardless, I'm looking forward to getting that old gun back in action.2 points

Wife's daughter is now a homeowner. She bought a nice little little place in Albany between Albany med, where she works and St Peter's hospital. She did it all on her own while working full time and going to college for her masters. At 25 yrs old, too. I personally would have wished she waited as it is a sellers market, and the housing prices are through the roof. She's beyond excited, as are her mom and I for her.2 points

Thing is.... I need to have ID to do ANYTHING else in today's society. Even getting a book from our local library requires an ID. One would think that having voter ID, would be at least as important as borrowing a book from a small library? That is, unless one does not care about voter fraud and vote misrepresentation??? Keeping our vote free from ANY, and ALL, fraud is essential to keeping the foundation of our constitution, from being subjected to any doubt. ANY doubt, only fans the fires of injustice. As we are seeing now throughout our government, with too many questions, and not enough answers.2 points

It can be seen as a big victory that a federal judge struck down California's assault weapons ban. Dr. John R. Lott, Jr. PhD served as the expert for the plaintiffs while the state had three different experts on its side. While the judge approvingly quotes Lott's conclusion, he was very critical of the other experts, declaring that they did not accurately describe other research or improperly manipulated statistics to get the result they wanted. But this is just the beginning of the battle. The California Attorney General will immediately appeal the decision to the Democrat-dominated 9th Circuit. The case might then possibly head to the US Supreme Court. All gun owners owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dr. John R. Lott, Jr., as he is the most effective pro-gun advocate involved in this fight today. He is a man on our side that has the data to prove there are lies being used against us. Massachusetts went mask free this past weekend, and practically nobody on the Cape is wearing them. Good riddance. The current numbers don't justify masks IMHO. The fish are maskless, too, and chewing with abandon. Lots of blues and stripers, easy limits on 20"+ black sea bass, a couple winter flounder. Winds aren't great, but we are managing. It's much more enjoyable than last year, during the pandemic. And the scallop pizza at the Parrot Bar and Grill is to die for! It really seems like the vaccine has allowed us to turn the corner. Kudos to all who made that happen!2 points

The circumstantial evidence is overwhelming, enough to warrant further investigation. Any reasonable person would see that. Why are leftists so hell bent on stopping one then?1 point

"The Biden administration has recently called for a 90-day intelligence community review into the origins of the pandemic, which is welcome news for those of us who have called COVID-19 a 'Chinese Chernobyl' demanding serious geopolitical accountability since day one — but sad news for those who may have presumed a modicum of intellectual honesty from our political elites. American politics is currently in the throes of a populist moment. That populist moment is characterized by widespread distrust of elites and a perceived ever-widening chasm between the ruling class's prerogatives and the wishes of the American people at large. As we finally begin to emerge from COVID-19, that chasm will only grow wider. The ruling class has finally sullied itself one time too many." —Josh Hammer1 point

Picked up 7 boxes of Blazers locally from 2 different stores today. First one was a 2 box limit. Second location I told him that it’s for my rifle. He said well then might as well take 5 boxes then as rifle Ammo is a 5 box limit! Lol1 point

We beat the Albany Alley Cats today to win the state cup. We fought back all day and went into OT. They scored first and we tied it in the second OT. Game ended on PK's and we won 3-1! Off to the regionals at the End of June. These kids are the Long Island Slammers U17 girls team!1 point

I’ve carried Gerber Obsidians for years (durable knife + bottle opener) and I was bummed when I lost my serrated version a few months ago. They don’t make them anymore, but eBay came through for me this week and I just got my barely used replacement for $20. I don’t know who “DHW” is... but I’ll appreciate the knife more than he did!
