My mom called and woke me up I was 19 at the time and told me to turn on the news. We were talking about it and I said another plane just crashed into it also. Then the pentagon. I remember all the different news agencies reporting who was behind the terrorist attacks as the Chinese the Russians then the real story came out. Not to long after that I was bar tending and we were watching the convoy of trucks and tanks rolling into the Middle East and I walked into my local recruit station the next day and signed up. That day turned so many lives !

While our oldest flew to Miami for the weekend to attend a party on a 240 foot Yacht , and the youngest is now in the air in route to Greece for ten days . Things seem ass backwards here !

Tajmahal begins, actually tajmahal finished! We rebuilt the damaged blind from last year back in May and finally finished putting it back up today. This time it's anchored down so even Ida won't be able to blow it over! Got screw in trailer anchors from a friend and secured it with 5/16"coated cable.

Bought two BOCES Building Trades mock houses that my son and his classmates built during the year at the end of the school year. Changed a few things to the design including the shed roof. Clad it in galvanized siding I bought at auction. Got 25 sheets of 3 X 8 for $400. Have a second building and enough siding so that'll hopefully get done in the next month. This currently sits overlooking 3.5 acres of brassicas and about 10 apple trees. Can't wait to hunt in comfort this year.

So I have been putting together a pistol for Rimfire Challenge matches and picked up a See All non battery optic to mount on my Browning Buckmark. These little sights are marketed as 20 first century alternatives to regular open sights which with my old eyes have a bit of trouble with these days. Mounted up the sight and while it works just fine I found I can not acquire my sight picture quick enough to suit me for this Rimfire Challenge type shooting which is all about speed. I decided to get use of this sight on an older muzzleloader I had sitting in my safe, a TC Black Diamond 50 cal. The Black Diamond had treated me good as I killed a couple of Deer with it back when I first got it. I just prefer hunting with the traditional style black powder sidelocks so the Black Diamond was put away at least 15 years ago and basically forgotten. I get the TC out from the back of the safe and the first thing I do is take my bore light and look down the barrel and see a Hornady XTP in a sabot looking back at me, I put the darn gun away charged and forgot about it, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb!! Never did that before but after reading some horror stories about having a corroded mess in the breech I feared the worst. So I take the breech plug out and push out the load and to my surprise the components looked exactly like the day they were loaded at least 15 years ago. Two completely intact 50 grain Pyrodex pellets and the Hornady XTP and it's sabot which by the way worked great for me. Just for the hell of it and to satisfy my curiosity I loaded everything back into the barrel and went out to the range, put on a cap and fired it at a fifty yard target, Bullseye! So take it for what it is worth but when I think about it everything makes sense to me as the powder charge like a cartridge was completely sealed in the breech with no way for air or moisture to get to it so it stayed effective. Anyhow I got the "See All" optic mounted up and will be playing around with the old Black Diamond testing it out and maybe even trying to kill another Deer with it. Al

Its crazy to me that 9/11 was 20 years ago. I remember that day so vividly.....I had been in a motorcycle accident and was at home healing up when my buddy Steve dropped by and asked if i was watching TV. I wasn't but turned it right on. I watched with horror, anger, sorrow and felt helpless. It was a beautiful day but the darkest day of my life. I worked for MetLife at the time and new several people that worked down there. Thankfully I didn't know anyone that perished but still feel sorrow and anger for those that did. My daughter is 16, she will never know the feelings of that day. Hopefully she never will. My friend Steve that stopped by that day had been out of the Army for a couple years. He said that morning he was going back in and did exactly that. Thank you to him and all like him. Later that day i went with another friend to pick up his new Chevy Blazer ZR2. It seemed like the world was surreal. Everyone went out of their way to be extra friendly. If only we could get back to the unity we felt as a country that day and the months beyond. So much has changed...... Lets make sure we all take a minute to remember where you were, what you were doing and your feelings that day. Remember those that were lost, the hero's of Flight 93 and all those that fought for our freedom.... NEVER FORGET!!

I really never thought to post this here, and now it's last minute. I work with several people who have JD's from prestigious universities (Harvard, Stanford, etc.) who all pulled their kids out of public school in 2020 because they felt the masks, plexiglass around desks, etc. were detrimental to their development. They enrolled them in private schools with less restrictions. Why can't these schools be treated like a restaurant? place the desks a few feet away from each other and take the masks off.

I went one afternoon last weekend with my buddy and his two young kids. Heard one flock but they never came in. He went that morning and had two flocks circling but they would not land. Before hunting that day I was mowing my pasture fields and was within 50 yards of 10 geese lounging around the pond. I could have easily snuck up on them and taken out two or three. The same group were in the same spot the next day. I do love goose pastrami so maybe this weekend….

I will be up on that big poplar tree in the morning, hoping to catch a doe at breakfast. Will she go for the silver queen sweetcorn on the left (it is showing signs of fresh deer foraging), the radish/turnips in the middle, the RR corn on the right, last years white clover on the far left, or the fresh sprouted wheat in the foreground. All of it is in range. If any of it appeals to her, I ought to be having tenderloins for lunch. She left some silver queen for me. Right now, I am waiting for the water to boil, prior to having a little for dinner.

I guess I was fortunate. My 40acres is surrounded by a no hunting preserve and Ag lands. It’s a mix of wetlands and woods and because of the wetlands I only pay $900 a year in taxes. Always has plenty of deer and nice bucks come rut. Plus it’s about 35 min from home. Can’t build on it but it works well and is affordable for hunting land near home.

I was a Junior in High School, and was on my way to school when I heard it on the radio. I still remember the confusion of that day. Every class had it on the TV. I remember being worried because some of the kids were talking about going to war and being drafted. I'll never forget the feeling of unity that followed. It didn't matter where you were on the political spectrum, for a long while we were all Americans. I remember the big thing was to drive with your lights on in remembrance. The worst of days shined a light on the best qualities of what it means to be an American.

My daughter just turned 5 the other day ,she needs to wear a mask for 8 hours at school ,with an occasion 5 min break and lunch .I’m borderline on the verge of pulling her out of school for the year ,it makes me sick .

Doing it yourself is the best way to go. It’s not hard to learn (you tube) and doesn’t take much space at all. Invest in a little equipment and you’ll save a ton of money over a few years. It’s really the ultimate extension of hunting. Plus, you know exactly what your getting.
