My son has been begging to go out for this early antlerless season. He is 12 yrs old and unbelievably in to hunting lol. We got up at 5am today and made our way to our "comfy" 2 man stand. Around 645 we had a small buck come by and maybe 15 mins later a group of 4 flat heads were making thier wayin the same direction. The big lead doe knew something was up but at 40 yards she didnt have a chance lol. He made a great shot and she ran maybe 60 yards. To say he was pumped is a understatement. In his words after the shot it felt like he was making the whole tree stand shake lol. So happy to be able to share these times with him and see him truly love being in the woods.

British Columbia checked all the boxes you’d want in a mountain goat bowhunt. Lots of nice goats, check. Beautiful rugged mountain, check. Insanely epic vistas at every turn, check. Grizzly bears, check. Sunshine, rain, wind, and snow all in one day, check. Brutal climbs to get into goat country, check. Backbreaking pack outs, check. I had great bowhunt and was very fortunate that it encompassed the total experience. The sense of accomplishment with each obstacle that was over come is not something that I will soon forget. My outfitter and guide were fantastic and worked very hard, and I super impressed all the way around. You’d be hard pressed to find better people. Well, here he is. He was aged at 7 years old by the Bylaw wildlife officer. His Horn length is 9 1/2 and 9 ( broken tip). We spotted him on a face of finger ridge the evening before at about 730 pm and although we didn’t see him in the morning we still made the 4 and half hour climb. We managed to find him and I was lucky to make a 12 yard shot. I am excited and yet humbled at the same time. It was an awesome experience.

I am relaxing my hotel room, up in Alexandria bay right now (up here for my brothers second wedding yesterday), thinking about my next and last early antlerless season southern zone hunt this afternoon. I will probably hit the truck stop on my way home and be up in my stand , over at my folks place, around 4 pm. No deer action at all on my last 3 hunts. I left the deer fridge plugged in at home, just in case it picks up this afternoon. I am more looking forward to getting back up north in a few weeks for early ML season and opening weekend of gun.

A forum is only as good as it’s members make it , the more one participates , helps , guides new people and so on the better the place is . “ Badges are simply a way of acknowledging those efforts . I stayed off the lake this weekend. Sat morn it was raining but this was also going on. Chicken wing run. Got caught in it one year and it scared the crap out of us. Lol

Had the Impulse barrel spiral fluted and am patiently waiting for the Thermion XG50 scope to arrive early this week, then my rig will be set for this fall. October 1st is fast approaching. I'm keeping the XP on top till the XG arrives. I'm also going to try Lapua OT projos and a titanium linear compensator, to see if it'll mitigate muzzle flash and rearward noise. The brake is Titanium and has QD threads for quick & easy install or removal of the linear compensator.

Son's ribeye. We're doing chicken thighs and seasoned roasted potatoes and beets. Served on fine china lol. Steak cooked in cast iron seared on both sides 3 mins and pop in 400 degree oven to finish. Turned out great.

Sightings have dropped off and it appears they are only moving at night once again. Still a few around but haven't caught any of the big guys recently. Turkeys are still enjoying the soybeans and coyotes are still cruising. Looks like there may be a tree legged doe around to.

Venison burgers. My venison stock is actually holding out pretty well. A good last year and even giving a full deer to the GFs family and some to landowners and family, still have a decent stock in the freezer.

I ate a pretty good wild Alaskan salmon dinner at Denny’s, along with half of my wife’s honey roasted chicken sandwich. It looks like the Bill’s have the fish under control, so I am back out in position ahead of schedule. I am in my front woods stand, near an old gas well. I have everything I need to be comfortable. I will give momma doe until 7:46 or so to show up here. There are lots of nuts on ground. Hopefully she is hungry for some of those.

I don't need any badges for my hunting skills. I had badges, jobs, Town, County, State, enough, badges for hunting, doesn't make any sense. After hunting since I was 6 yrs old, NOW, I am listed as a Rookie!! WTH is going on? This is very confusing and insulting.

Everyone's post count is still there. That hasn't been reset, yet. The ads and ranking are new. Don't give a rats ass about ranking, the ads are annoying.

Hard frost a yr ago. This morning was 62° with a high around 78°.

Website was down yesterday in the early am for an update for about an hour. This is what came out of it. It still works nearly the same but the rank and anyone that had a quote or message on the bottom when they posted, that is also gone. Used to be able to change the rank yourself (elite Hunter, newbie etc) but haven't tried it yet. The pop-up add is a bit of a pita as it blocks the top of every page. But it could certainly be worse.

I do This on my own time. John doesn’t and has no reason to run everything by me. I’m sure if he expected something noticeable to change, he would give me or everyone a quick heads up because he’s good like that. There’s nothing scary, it’s no conspiracy, it’s some kind of unexpected glitch on a website.

Thats easy fix shim under scope on ring closest to you reye , a small piece of aluminum flashing will be enough simply loosen top clamp on scope rings slide under scope at close ring and retighten. Can use more than one if needed. I cut it in a thin strip so its covered by scope and ring and you never see it.. beer can aluminum works well but is thinner than flashing so you may need to double or triple up the shims.

Fun fact of the day... from the sheet they had at the tables, this is the largest 9pt that was submitted last year in ny.
