Beagles are one of the most refined hunting breeds in existence, they have been specifically bred to hunt Rabbits and Hare for hundreds of years. I have had other dogs breeds that could put Rabbits in the bag for me, I had a pretty fair English Coonhound that was good and even had an Airedale that put out quite a few for me but all and all a well bred Beagle is the way to go. My neighbor has 5 beagles, We have a 1 yr old Male Beagle and live in a Very heavily populated rabbit habitat. Im waiting for him to take me out as he said he would with his best dog now that deer seasons over, to ge tmy boy some training in... They went out Saturday morning and let his dogs run, They chased 12 bunnies and they all circled as they should. He went to shoot the last bunny so i can keep working with our dog Toby, But the gun didn't fire. No bunnies were taken, he just wanted to work the dogs.. Id like to think the dogs would enjoy a dead bunny though. My buddy and I used to go with his, and he gave his dogs, the fresh heart out of every bunny they killed, once they got back to the truck. I think we have ourselves to blame. Lack of discretion and indiscriminate use of every type of technological advancements that we could get our hands on makes us look like greedy saps. Trail cams, 1000 yard long range rifles, 100 yard archery shots, crossbows that resembles rifles more then archery equipment, 500 yard smokeless muzzleloaders, carbon suits, ozone machines… you flipping name it and hunters will use it. Game farms, exclusive ranches that cost more to hunt in a week that some people make in a year. And all while we clamor for more opportunity’s and longer seasons. Add to that there are a lot of hunters that by their actions show that quite frankly they can give two shits about the animals they hunt, never mind conservation and environment… I am not particularly sympathetic[emoji2369]

Every time a deer comes on screen little man loses his mind. I think we have another hunting generation.

Just seen this posted .This Coyote was tagged in March of 21 .It shows the travel pattern of this particular dog .This was a male that weighed 39#.This is why it’s hard to eradicate coyotes in a specific area .The GPS sent location every 90 minutes .

Easier than it looks. Time consuming as everything was done at half speed. Played around with scrap material trying out all the different stitches and options on the machine, then started.

I have zero experience with building anything but if I were to purchase 10,20,whatever acres the first thing I would do to setup a hunting / vacation camp would be to buy a used Camper / Trailer and leave the wheels on so as not to increase the taxable portion of that property . After a couple years of decision to build whatever you would have enjoyed the property - hunting , fishing , hiking , weekend getaway ... whatever you can make a better decision on what you might want as far as permanent goes ! Just my 2 cents !

Cover is the key for sure, those thick briar patches make it tough for the varmints and hawks also. I liked hunting old hillside grown up crab apple orchards and briar patches for Cotton Tails, I have found that Grouse like the same cover too. My Airedales worked real well to flush them out of that type of habitat for a shot. Below is a photo of Airedale (Dill) owned by a woman from England on my Airedale board, they call their method of Rabbit and Hare hunting "Bushing". They use various Terriers to root them out of the thick stuff, rough work for rough dogs. Al

BRAVO, a very well deserved honor indeed. It is good to see the national recognition for the NY state DEC finally listening to the majority of hunters (who hunt for meat not antlers) and making many positive changes last year. Those changes have helped make NY the number one state, for a meat hunter such as myself, and have directly enabled me to fill our freezer to near capacity last year, plus get a jump on this year. Not only have those recent changes made things much better for us meat hunters, but they have also enabled the DEC to get a much better handle on the state’s deer population, for the benefit of other groups including motorists, farmers, and homeowners, using the BEST means of population control - HUNTERS.

When I was a young boy (many years ago) my dad took me rabbit hunting with our beagle. I got hooked the first time out. I have owned beagles ever since. I hunt deer, turkey, ducks, geese, and rabbits. Rabbit hunting with my 3 beagles I have now still remains one of my most enjoyable types of hunting. I have 4, out with 2 now. Otis and Crazy who is almost 7 months. Each hound has their own strength, Chester is a great bed hog. Bones is a great jump dog, Otis is all around great dog. Still figuring out the puppy. I had so much fun yesterday with them, better than sitting at home.

Big tournament this weekend, wny predator slam. Went out last night from 630pm and got home at 5am. Started behind the house here, called a fox in but offered no shot close. He ended up goin away from us and at about 305-310 yards he stopped and i sent one. Feel i just missed under him. O btw i set up my thermal scope on my Tikka t3x tac a1 in 6.5 creedmoor. I dont want any runners this weekend. 2nd stop up towards medina, got 2 yotes to come to the edge of a woodlot at probably 350 yards but wouldnt step out for us. Next 2 stops nothing, then headed into clarence at my buddies parents house. Only rule, no fox. At the 7 min mark a fox came in and sat behind the call 60 yards from us...from there we went to a very productive field in akron. It did not disappoint. About 15 mins in i got two yotes to come out from a woodlot about 650 yards out. One made its way in to about 125 yards while the other stayed back from were they popped out. I wanted my buddy to shoot but he couldn't find it in his NV scope. So i dropped that one with a slight quartering too shot to the chest. They other yote never flinched. I put on a distress call and it slowly worked its way in. It was staying further out, again my buddy couldn't find it in his scope. It stopped and i put one through its chest at 293 yards. In the pick its the one with its heart laying outside its body. My first time doubling up! Two nice males too. Thank goodness for the snow it made dragging 2 yotes bearable. Next set i got a group sounding off but the wind was bad from where they were calling from so we moved. Got a different group talking there but no one wanted to show up. Last set was silence. Tonight we head down to Bliss, Chaffee and all the way to Arkwright. Should be a fun night, weather looks good.

My son got his first yote last night. I let the dogs out and scanned the field, this guy was chowing down on a deer carcass i have staked down. We made our move back and the yote moved out to around 200 yards. I barked to stop him and my son made a good shot, the yote ran about 100 yards and piled up. 49lb old male.

Another option would be an amish built shed on skids ( no taxes) put on a good stone pad, and you can finish inside yourself , only issue is constrained to size and delivery via rollback truck or trailer.

You got me mixed up with someone else. All I really want is one more weekend of early crossbow season, up in the northern zone, before the guns come in. The local businesses are currently getting screwed up there, with just 3 weekdays. My preferred archery deer season in the southern zone would be a October 1-14 “traditional”, where just longbows and recurves would be legal, and 0ctober 15-gun opener “modern”, where compounds and crossbows would be legal. Such a structure would put the screws to the “cupcakes” (compound only bow-hunters who oppose the crossbow) as they justly deserve, while opening up new opportunities to the “true” archers.

Seriously consider a camper/5th wheel,I wish i would have instead of a structure.The tax on a structure is terrible where i am at in Catt.county,and trying to deal with these small town assesors is a waste of time.A structure= high tax,and basically no service but road plowing.

Thanks. They're definitely 5 footers. Up close you can see imperfections and workarounds due to the layering being too thick for the machine to handle. Not lightweight. Have since waxed them making them heavier and stiffer. Had to wash multiple times to remove the excessive wax I applied. Post waxing they lack breathability. They did swish a lot due to the legs being too baggy. I have since removed material in the inner thigh and along the outer leg seams making them much better in the noise department. I intended to make another set with lightweight goretex type material but already own a similar military surplus setup. So these will mostly be used for other stuff, shoveling, sledding, ice fishing, etc. Overall not really great or even good for what I originally intended but it was a good learning experience. Next I plan on sewing a barn jacket from similar material and a fleece sweater with pouch. The patterns were Green Pepper Coast Range Anorak and Twig and Tale Rainhaven Overalls.

Federal Blue Box 100 gr, Hornady American 100 gr., and the Barnes 80 gr. All have demonstrated terminal performance just fine. The Barnes are real nice, but very pricey and hard to get right now. I have a few boxes left and sighted in my Vanguard with the Federal because I lucked into 10 boxes of it November 2020. It was lights out. Felt no need to try the Barnes. Did fine on a Missouri whitetail this year. As long as you are shooting a mainstream 100 gr. or thereabouts with whitetail in mind, I'd be more concerned on accuracy. Don't get me wrong, the Barnes is very very nice. But in this climate, it might not be worth the ROI.

Although not ideal as a tracker you should be setting up your gear for the less than ideal shots. If you can track them without blood with blood feels like you’re cheating. I’m sure I will one day but I’ve recovered every buck I’ve hit while tracking. I wish I had those odds with the bow or gun when not tracking. I like my 35’s “rem, whelen or 358win” because they’ll go hooter to tooter or tooter to hooter and everything in between with 2 holes and I never have to worry about angles, just aim in the middle and they’ll find they’re way into the good stuff. One can easily go online and look at various official State Department of Health data that shows that the overwhelming majority of people who are now dying of covid are not vaccinated. I don't just mean NYS, or just states of a particular color. And that will not make a da## bit of difference to some people. No more than the recommendations of their physician and almost all medical doctors. Because, of course, they know they are right. I gave up and wish them and their families the best of luck.
