Thought I saw a couple guys post this summer that I didnt recognize, but that doesnt mean they were new members, of course.

THe site owner is not able to be reached . He and only he has the power to allow new members . Apparently Burmjohn is too busy on FaceBook to bother .

So what keeps the site going??? The administrator has not been on sine 2021, Burmjohn since 2020, and two of the other moderators since 2020 & 2021.

I would hate to see it disappear. Is there a way to get in touch with him on facebook??

As long as the host server bills are paid this site will stay up, the owner likes the way the site is now and pays his bills so she will continue be open for anyone that wants to learn about Hunting and the Outdoors. I like it just fine.

Would be a shame if it disappeared. The site that many here have migrated to just doesn't have the same charm. Plus it's a NJ forum from what I gather.

 Yes there are some that live in NJ, but hunt in NY. Don't think that makes it a NJ forum.

You might be looking at the NJ, WaW site?? There is a NY site too. And though the owner is a NJ native, he hunts and fishes NY, as well as his home state. The vast majority of members are from NY, discussing NY topics.

Not to take anything from this site. As there are members who visit both, with no issues.

We all lose interest in things. It happens. I don't know why John doesn't poke his head in here time to time but he has treated me really well. A lot jumped ship just thinking this was going to shut down. It's alive and well and really I go to the other site and it's a mirror of this one. Nice to chat with the guys but I'm fine plugging away right here. This website has come a long way. Fast Eddie knows, black screen with white or yellow type can't remember. Let's just play it out and if one day it ends, it ends. But for now I think we are in for a great deer season. We have done this twice in 15 years. Bucks on the pole before noon! Hope this year is the same!

It has been quite a few years since I resigned as Moderator. We had a lot of moderators at the time and I was  quite sporadic in my participation at the time and decided that I really couldn't do a very good job. So I left the job to the great guys that were doing the job at the time.

Now we are down to only fasteddie as the last active moderator and fortunately he is doing a great job. The site is running just fine with one notable exception. Without the ability for new members to join, the site will eventually whither. Why Burmjohn did not do the proper thing and explain that he would no longer be engaged in this site, I haven't a clue. Apparently the structure of the site still relies on him for certain critical activities that should have been changed before his disappearance. So without those changes, things are what they are. I imagine that one day we will try to access this site and find out that it is gone. I am not sure what is keeping the bills paid as it is.  But I suppose we must just enjoy it for as long as it is here.

I was skimming through a few weeks ago and checked the members online list. There had been 16 new members in the course of that 24 hours. So someone is playing games because either those are fake accounts just to keep up with some sort of requirement for the ads, the place has been hacked, or new members can now join. I personally think it's the former because new members have been joining for a long time, even when they needed approval, so I think someone is playing games.

I don't know if all members can access this but when I go to the bottom of the page and look at who is on-line , I can see "new" members that have no posts . Some of these have joined in the past few hours so I figure they are Bogus members but I don't know how they got there . Maybe burmjohn needs to have X numbers of people on-line to keep his advertisers . ?????????????

Doc, this all goes back to when burmjohn took members money for merch that was never delivered. After that, burmjohn went MIA. This was some of the reason members went to NYWAW. This is all very regrettable, as I enjoyed being a member here for many years. There are still some really good people here. But most have went elsewhere. I still continue to visit here, though the content has been reduced greatly over the last few months. I was even made to feel unwelcome by a couple die hard members here, because I chose to visit the other forum too. So I've been posting less myself.

I'm no tech expert. But I do know, any site left unattended, will eventually pick up bad things like spyware and other not so pleasant things. Hence the "new members" are likely, really not new members at all. burmjohn is the only administrator who can approve new members......period. And where is he the last couple years?? And without new growth, even a mighty oak tree withers and dies eventually. We've all seen that out in the woods.

Even though I am not a NYS resident, I still visit here regularly. I was born and raised in Corning and still hunt Steuben. I like to hear what is going on and follow the live from the woods section. Hope everything stays status quo.

Have a two family rental in Corning. What a great town. My Sister in law is the President of the Gaffer district. I just dated a woman for nine moths who has history there, They were the Thomas family. Owned some businesses and land in the area. Good to hear from you!

This site will not be going away anytime soon. Continue to enjoy. You will no longer see a bunch of clutter like what kind of beer someone is drinking. Most of the members left here were never ones that lived on the site daily.   And it’s so nice not to see the useless banter posted daily.
