My buddy shot a spike in westchester on 12/30 which we dragged out via the horns...nowhere near loose yet in westchester.

About 1:30 last night, I saw a beauty of a 10 point just off the road in 4F close to Oneonta on a big piece of posted land. Sure was a beauty, and sure looked healthy.

when would they normally start dropping? I saw a buck on sunday with a full rack - thought the bases started to weaken in Feb-Early March

It depends on different factors (environmental) that effect the stress levels of the deer. Typically, most bucks seem to drop from mid to late January into early February. Two years ago we had an unusually dry summer and then a big snow storm right after x-mas and as a result a majority of the bucks in my area lost their antlers at the beginning of January, 2-3 weeks earlier than normal.

Anyone ever make or use an antler trap ? I'm assuming their legal.

Feeding deer is not legal in N.Y. are there any other was to attract a deer to an antler trap ?.

the trap is not illegal but it is not legal to put bait in them so they would be useless

I found a beautiful matching set of antlers yesterday, January 14. And also had a picture of abother buck earlier in January with only one antler attached. I'd get searching asap.

I went for a walk with the .22 today, no antlers or squirrels/rabbits, but I did see 7 deer bedded so I just let them be, will check that area in another month.

Ugh, I haven't even found that in 23 years of hunting. Sucks lol, I'll never find one lol

I only found 1 on the east coast in PA

But in 2012 in Wyoming, I found 9 in 5 days while hunting. Just stumbled across all of these, wasn't even looking for them.

I bet some of you shed hunters here in NY would really clean up out west with mule deer and elk sheds

I have only found a few over the years and that was while deer hunting. a friend of mine finds several sheds every year. Don't know what his secret is.
