Got busted by a big doe, was only 20 yards or so. Creeped up behind me and busted me when I turned around.

Then on the way out, saw a forky nose on the ground following a small doe. Not a care in the world. Anytime now.

The buck we have been chasing for 3 years just went down to the recurve.   And worthy of note is Phades integrity when he passed him last week because he tagged out.  Thanks you Phade and thanks Lord:

Just got in and finished dinner and see this!! Congratulations !  Wow! What a beautiful buck, and to do it with your recurve is absolutely awesome! Way to get it done my friend. I'm very happy for you!

Close encounters.a02da53278cb8be8c7eac15bdbe0b5e1.jpg

I was surrounded by mom and her 2 little ones. This is a screen shot out of at least 5 minutes of video.
This one was maybe 2' from my feet. The other one was behind me. No idea how close, I didn't dare look. But I could hearhim/her breathing. Lol
They kept on looking at their back Trail, but nothing followed

Sweet deal man congrats!! I thought recurves came with a loin cloth and war paint. I'm assuming you changed prior to pic.

The doe by my ATV came my way at an angle . She was within 30 yards of me and I couldn't draw due to the safety strap on my harness . If I had the strap around the tree lower I might have gotten a shot but if I did that and fell , it would be a longer drop and one heck of a jolt .

She stood within 10 yards of the ATV for about 10 minutes .... probably wondering where the driver was .

Well ended up not seeing a deer for the rest of the morning, so I went to my other spot to check my trail cams and on my way to my stand I found a rub line right under my stand that wasn't there the week before. I Found a couple nice rubs too and the trail cams showed some new bucks...most small 8's and 7's but one decent 8 showed up. One of my cams wasn't working so i lost a week worth of pics. I replaced the batteries hoping that was all it needed. Went back to the spot that i saw the 3 bucks and saw a buck 70 yards out with in 20 min. Made a quick grunt and he came running on a string to 12 yards. A really nice  2 1/2 year old 8 point with huge brow tines...very tempting but ultimately i passed. As soon as i made that decision the wind swirled and he didnt like that at all. He walked away nervous but not too spooked. Hopefully when the rut starts kicking next week it'll bring in some nice bucks. Also found a lot more rubs and a scrape 45 yards from my stand.

I'm gonna try a permanent stand with my son tomorrow, he's way to anxious to sit on the ground. I bet I told him ten times to quit moving around. I've slacked on my part getting some double stands for us so after the hunt were hanging a double stand. I'll give him a few options on location and let him choose it. getting a deer with him is goal #1 so I gotta make it happen.

I luv it!
When I took my daughter out at 7 she was a mess. We actually shot a doe that day. But impatience? She had plenty. Give him the phone on vibrate and let him go. When it gets good bring him in. Hell when I start lookin at the phone the deer usually come in. It's a great time in our lives when our kids are with us in the woods. I remember my time with my dad and they will remember their time with you. God bless our kids!!!

my sons patience has come a long way this year.  its really awesome when he sees an opportunity,  i just let him take over.  He got busted once early in the bow year, and he is learning in leaps and bounds.  he took a shot the other night at a doe and caught a branch and went high, after sitting for about 2.5 hours pretty still.  he is finally starting to see results of sitting still.   Im glad because i don't think i could have told him to stop moving again!

Thing about kids and fishing/hunting is, it takes a lot of patience and finding the right moment to introduce them to the sport. You don't want to make an otherwise very special moment to become a goal you must achieve.

Make sure you're both enjoying the time together, getting something just sweetens the deal.

I'm sure you know this already, but sometimes it's easy to lose your way.

Sat in a tree tonight that sits in a nice funnel. Saw nothing until 5.40,then a doe and young one walked by rather quickly.

Then sunset came and I let my bow down and decided to lower the stand a little, there was a big branch up high in my way. So I climb down a little and futz around with the hang on and after I get it semi secure I look up and there are three deer about 20yds away. I finished tying the stand on and decide to sit in it until the deer disappear. Can't believe they didn't make me,but it was definitely getting dark. One was a huge doe and she walked nice and slow past at 20 yds.

Next time she won't be so lucky.

I only have an hour after sunup so hopefully I see some action right away.  I sat for 9 hours yesterday so I paid some dues. afternoon evening looks like rain but we'll see.

On the kids note... I have brought my six year old out twice this year but only when the weather was good and for a short 1-2 hour sit to get him used to it and he now feels like he is a hunter.  As he gets older I will bring him a little more each year.  He loves it.   I like how you put things into perspective Shawnhu, "Enjoying time together"   Memories are made in many ways.

I waited in my stand last night for my dad to get there on his way down the hill, it was probably 15ish minutes after legal light, some kind of monster came high stepping it past my stand about 40 yards away ,I could see the outline but in the woods was too dark ,it's body was huge ,i saw something on its head but really couldn't make it out.

A tad warm at 50 but man is it quiet out! Now if I could just block out the highway noise a couple miles away and the random plane I would be at peace. I did hear a turkey sound off a bit ago.

One of those mornings if the deer is too close you swear they can hear your breathing! Now all I need is the deer!

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
