Do you have till dark? I expect a lot movement this afternoon. I am trying to decide where to sit. The spot where i kicked up the big buck last week or another area where a good buck has been seen crossing the road....hmmm.

I don’t know *tears*. Wife may not be able to get out of work meaning I am on taxi duty. Which means I would have to leave at 4 which is the very time this is likely to start paying dividends!

So will you only hunt those great weather days? Or hunt most days and especially when the weather is great?  Seems like you guys are definitely doing something right with the deer you have taken and the seen while in the stand!!

Won't speak for Phade, but we tend to hunt whenever possible, but will likely sit longer (full days) on those great days and perhaps target stands/properties that we expect greater success (ie know there are good bucks around).  I may get out this afternoon but, being tagged out, will avoid the areas we know there are big bucks so as to not stink things up.  A nice doe elsewhere will do.

I expect Phade to be in a stand all next week - whatever the weather is.

Posted thsi in another thread but it fits here too:

So lo and behold, today I climb down and am walking out when I spot a large bucket in the woods. TF and I always laugh about how theres always a bucket and I was thinking that if I cant find my climber Saturday at least I'll spot that bucket and know I'm on the wrong bench. No sooner have I hatched this plan than the bucket stands up and trots off, a piebald doe!! First I've seen in the woods! I actually got close to her two more times and wished my rangefinder wasnt in my pack. I got to maybe 50-60, would have been a terrible idea anyway with her at Defcon 1 . She is all white except for her muzzle. She was with another doe and thats all I saw this gorgeous morning. Today was all-day sit worthy but alas, I must work

Back in, new spot on public, first year clear-cut and I jumped a doe on the way in. Would've liked to stay in the stand that I was in this AM but honestly I don't hunt it at night because it's so far from the truck and help is an hour away. As I suspected I grabbed my arrow from shooting at the coyote and there was a tuft of hair on the ground, maybe he'll think twice about hanging around in the field now at least. e2096dbc13a26ba823c6f00df382cb29.jpgIMG_20181030_114040848.jpeg

While taking a drive this morning before work scouting for crows I saw a GIANT of a buck in a cut cornfield cruising. Its on a farm I have permission to hunt crows and I am quite certain I can get permission to hunt deer. No one has permission to hunt this farm and there is a nice thick ravine between 2 cornfields and an alfalfa field. Sure got the blood pumping. A big bodied WIDE racked deer...one of those that when he was walking away from me with his head down you can see plenty of bone on either side of his body.

I taped my laptop to my stand so it won’t fall out of the tree again. I have a meeting I can’t miss.

I don’t know if this makes me a pitiful hunter or a diehard one. Probably a bit of both.

Pav, that pretty much sums it up.

I'll be in a tree for most all of my time off for hunting from Nov 3-13. Was very close to making it happen - had two stand choices and chose the wrong one Sunday PM. Moog just loves telling me what I am missing - I've had a few years in the reverse, so I'm definitely getting caught up this year, lol.

The three of us (including our buddy) are fortunate to have opportunities to pursue some nice deer that make us "look" like we know what we're doing. A lot of it just boils down to hard work/dedication. I tend to bring the patience. Moog tends to bring the brute force method, and our third buddy is quite simply a darn monkey in the trees. Across all three we tend to cover each's others' areas of opportunity. Mutual success/failure. Just as happy when they score a buck as when I do. And if you wear mismatching camo patterns...whooooooo boy, watch out!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
