Just a point of clarity - if you have an arrow in her already. Any chance to put another in her, you should take it. If her back was to you and visible despite not vitals open - shoot. Rules of engagement go out the window with an already hit deer IMO. You want to cause more blood loss.

It may not have been based on what you said but if her back was to you and open, dial up the shot.

That is exactly what i was thinking last night as i lay awake. The one thing i could have done differently. Now i dont remember if i had an arrow nocked before she got up or not, either way i didn't shoot.

I went back this morning and kept loosing her trail. The property she ran onto was heavily logged 10 to 15 years ago,the beech saplings are thick. I did a grid search and could not pick up the blood trail much beyond where i left off last night. I heard no coyotes or crows.

I hope the doe will survive this ordeal.

I will definitely shoot.another arrow if i am in a similar situation again. This is only my 4th bow season, lots to learn still.

I would rather not learn like this though. It should have been a chip shot.

Sometimes experience is the best teacher. Don't get too beat up on it. Back in the saddle for you.

4.5hours in the stand and nothing.  A ton of sign around me.  Three new scrapes in the trail on the way in and a rub was hit again and an older scrape redone.  So there is deer there just we haven't got our schedules synchro up.  Unless forecast turns out wrong that was prob it for the bow. If no or light rain might do a quick sit tonite.

Shot deer in this spot and have 3 scrapes and a rub within 40 yards of it. Not a deer today. Sat from before sunup to 11:30.

Hey biz. If you don’t want those stands I’ll gladly take them off your hand if the previous owner doesn’t want them back

Yea remind me in the offseason. I’m sure You can have them- I’ll confirm with my dad since it’s his land. We bought the land in 2016 and the previously owner left them for us. They ladder stand looks older, but the hang on and climbing sticks look pretty good to me.

You can see the ladder stand in this pic. But, of course, I can take better pics when the time comes.

And old summer pic of hang on

i passed on this wide big bodied 8 point this morning. He was with a doe and he was starting to get the dopey look to him. They hung around for a bit along with several other deer. About 15 minutes after they moved off, I rattled and did a few can bleats. He promptly returned looking even more dopey.

https://youtu.be/oOvr5Cv07g0

I rattled one more time and had a small 8 come right in along with a few other small bucks that all seemed to be cruising looking for a date. Also saw 1 buck bumping a group of does. It seems like we are definitely in the seeking phase here and I would suspect all out chasing is not far off.

Pics of him from last week

Had a decent day in the park. No deer but plenty of signs. I went up a mountain this morning with out a doubt I walk through a few bedding areas. Got to a small Rigde that looked good on the map, but there where small pine trees everywhere. Made a mistake and tried to go down what I knew was steep busted my butt getting out of there. Rain now going to slow roll down to my pond.

1c, public land, last sit for October. Have had good luck at least seeing deer on haloween. Wanted to get to the woods earlier, but got delayed by work. Lucky to get this spot...tried probably 6 times to get here first but this supposed 1 car spot always taken by 2-3 hunters each time. That must mean its a good spot, right?

Have the same issue... forced me to scout other areas over the winter.  It’s nice to have options!

Changed my Friday vacation day, to a Tuesday vacation day! Because of the monsoon coming for Friday.

Will have this 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th to hunt!  Then the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th off too. Following that, the opening week of firearms off.  Hoping some serious chase action kicks in!

Putting the bow away for this year.

Trying for my first crossbow buck!

At my age, I don't get to try for many 'FIRSTS' anymore...........grin

Any other year, I wouldn’t have hesitated to let one fly at him. But this year I have gone the route of cell cams and after seeing pics in real time as well as having a good idea what’s around, I challenged myself to target one in particular. There are 2 other ones that will be a judgment call when the time comes. This one was a tough pass but the decision was made prior to seeing him today. Hopefully he makes it and I’m sure he will be at the top of my list for next year.

I'm looking forward to seeing the picture in the harvest thread .

There a lots of spots, so i just move on down to another spot. Had low impact scouted this spot prior to opening day and saw several deer, versus other spots. This was plan "a" and the others "b", "c", etc. Based on no sightings so far, this spot may move down the pecking order.

Have the same issue... forced me to scout other areas over the winter.  It’s nice to have options!

Driving up the hill there was a big camotion right by old stage road. Looked like a deer got whacked. Big body couldn't see the head because of all the cars and people.

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
