Hunter007
Was thinking of crossing long island sound the other day one way no problem its about 5.4 miles across going back not so sure about that lol Never paddled more then about 6 maybe 8 miles in a day I don't think and that was along the coast line 11 miles on open water maybe pushing it . And my kayak is not the easiest hull design for touring like that but it's very stable does good in waves . Just not a speed demon .
The_Real_TCIII
Our perch river trip is get up at 1AM, drive to watertown, wait in line, launch, paddle 2.5 miles essentially in brush, limit out, paddle all the way back, check in ducks, drive to Pulaski and get a sub, eat on bridge over town pool watching combat fishing, drive home. Not sure how many more years I can pull it off though lol

Got out about a mile or so and noticed wind and tide changed. It was tough to say the least coming back in.

Yea sometimes you go out and it's so easy to paddle then wind and currents change and it can be tuff out there to get back happened to me a few times .

philoshop
Sodus Point to Oswego one afternoon. Had a burger and a beer in town and headed back home. I don't remember exactly how many miles it was. Nice fast boat, and I remember it felt good to be out there.
turkeyfeathers
Algonquin provincial park when I was in 8th grade we paddled forever but pretty sure we portaged the canoes a lot farther than we ever had them in the water
crappyice
My wife and I did a stretch of the Taunton River in Mass as an escape the day after our wedding! 10 + miles of casual floating and camping for 3 days - we were done seeing people after a whole weekend of celebrating! Proper honeymoon to Ireland later in the summer but it was a nice escape.Be sure of weather- I’ve been out there on actual boats and were caught of guard and turned around by fog and wind that was never forecasted. I say paddle across and Uber home(or vice versa!)!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hunter007
Going to hold off on the sound crossing for now its actually more interesting to follow the shoreline more to see out in the middle its featureless. And by the time a cross over it will be time to head back probably. I Have to plan for it carefully. Red
About 7 years ago me my brother in-laws father inlaw and buddys kayaked 14 miles for fathers day. We went from the foot of Ontario to mississippi muds to grand island to buckhorn park. My arms and legs hurt for a good week afterward.
Nomad
200 miles or so . Used to canoe all over Canada, from Quebec to the Yukon River . Most in one day maybe 30 miles with a good flow .
ApexerER
I had planned on Kayaking from Ballston Spa to Saratoga Lake last summer. According to some people who had done that paddle it took 3 or 4 hours and we wanted to spend a whole day so we backed up to Rock City Falls. It started out perfect...nice slow relaxing trip...Drank some beer. After about a mile the creek got wide and was only a few inches deep. No biggie...Get out and walk until it goes back to being able too Kayak. Make a long story short, it was only Kayakable in very small stretches. We mostly walked over wet slipper rocks while dragging a Kayak while I was wearing water shoes from Ocean State. We basically walked dragging a Kayak from Rock City Falls to Ballston Spa thinking I was going to break my ankle or a toe with every step. According to my Fitbit it was just shy of 9 miles. My wife rescued us in Ballston Spa as it was getting dark. So the farthest I have gone is almost 9 miles but I was dragging...not paddling....
Jeremy K
Did a 50 mile canoe trip when I was in boy scouts in the Adirondacks. Picked up a whole mess of merit badges during that week.
NFA-ADK
If you plan on doing that I would hook up with another person for a few reasons. 1 view: It's much easier to see more than one person on the water for other boaters so they do not run you over! 2 safety: Much safer with 2 people in case you run into bad weather or flip in the middle. 3 practice: If you plan on doing this it is possible but I would do a few test runs where you are covering the same if not more miles without crossing so you are use to traveling that far. Mabe LIPA to Cold spring or to Nessequogue and back. 4 Weather : Make sure it is good and try to do it when you have a favorable return wind. Usually our wind is out of the NW so going early in the morning and coming back with good wind will make the return trip easy. Good luck!
Pygmy
I once paddled 50 miles up the Cialis River to the base of Viagra Falls in deepest, darkest Africa... Actually the paddling was done in dugout canoes by 20 native packers...I was hired to ride shotgun and protect the party from angry hippos, crocodiles, and other savage beasts.. The journey ended in failure...One of the packers had a psychotic pet gorilla named BOBO, who bore an amazing resemblance to Mike Tyson... One night Bobo got into the fermented banana juice and went wild and bit off the ears of all of the native packers.... Actually, it didn't seem to bother them all that much, except for one poor nearsighted fellow who could no longer wear his glasses....Bobo didn't get me because I was packing my trusty Westley Richards loaded with DumDum bullets... moog5050
Had a really bad trip with Burt Reynolds one time. Learned that Burt was a decent shot with the bow and that a purty mouth is not a good thing in certain areas of Georgia. 3
Pygmy
Actually, the most traumatic part of the trip for me was when I lost my corkscrew and was forced to live on food and water for several days...
cdbing
Haven't done more than a couple miles on kayak or canoe, mostly duck hunting or fishing. Longest rowboat trip was about 10 miles, when I was in scouts. On one such trip we had the use of a seagull engine to get us there, but had to row back when the motor would not start. Had to row towing another empty row boat behind us. Made it back so late the coast guard was contacted. Good times.Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
ncountry
My brother and I did 30-40 miles I think. Bog river -Lows lake- 3.5 mile Portage to the headwaters of the Oswegotchie then paddle to Cranberry lake... We did it in under 3 days but it should have been at least a 5 day trip in order to relax and enjoy .. The 3.5 mile portage was terrible. Cheap heavy 17' Coleman canoe.. we ended up carrying the canoe a mile or so walk back and get our gear and repeat..Not fun on a 85* summer day.. That was my longest trip. We regularly canoed the local rivers ,trolling for walleye and musky.4- 10 miles total.. And there was a couple year stretch that we trapped beaver in the spring on the river(the best time I had trapping).
Hunter007
This is very close to points I would be crossing from . there using real touring kayaks made for long distance runs . Much easier to go in .

Steuben Jerry
16 miles for the wifey and I. Although that was with the current on the Cohocton River. Floated along more than paddled.
