It is going to be a battle, Royal. I don't think the Gov. Has any idea what he is getting into. Glad I sold all my guns last week.5 points

I just finished watching Wayne LaPierre's speech on CNN. I must say it was a very powerful speech. Here's a link to the full text: http://home.nra.org/pdf/Transcript_PDF.pdf The best part of his speech IMO was this: "We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office buildings, power plants, courthouses — even sports stadiums — are all protected by armed security. We care about the President, so we protect him with armed Secret Service agents. Members of Congress work in offices surrounded by armed Capitol Police officers. Yet when it comes to the most beloved, innocent and vulnerable members of the American family — our children — we as a society leave them utterly defenseless, and the monsters and predators of this world know it and exploit it." I agree 1000% with his statements. BTW those dumba$$ protesters that stood up are just plain ignorant.3 points

I dont understand what doesnt make sense here. Unless the facts in that video are incorrect, what is there to dispute? It seems we have a knack of taking something that has been proven in other countries to be a failure, and think that we can do the same thing here and make it work. You know what it is when you do the same thing expecting different results?3 points

I watched the whole speech. There were two seperate protesters that held up big signs in front of the stage and yelled nonsense about the NRA killing the kids. I thought it would have made a great segue for Lapierre to go into the need to deal with the mental health issues in this country.2 points

I think it has been clearly established by the medical examiner and police that the AR15 was used in the killings... not sure where you are going with this thread.2 points

I don't think so. There may be a stand-off here, and a barricaded shoot-out there, but for the most part people will simply hand them over. We're not really made of the same thing that we were back in colonial times. At least that 's the impression that I get. There's a lot of good talk, but when it comes down to laying our comfortable lifestyle on the line, and risking prison time or worse, realistically I doubt that we have that kind of resolve. Now, there may be a few that will stash their guns in the wall, or under the floor-boards, but they will soon realize that the guns are of little value to them if they never get a chance to openly use them. What value is a $1200 gun that is kept in the wall? Those that think the NYS populace will all of a sudden rise up and form some sort of armed insurrection, probably should think about that some more. If this sort of thing is going to be shut down, it will have to be through extreme legislative pressure, and the courts. There really is no other way. For those that still think that it is acceptable to be unaffiliated or unsupportive of pro-gun organizations (NRA for instance), now is the time to pull your head out of that dark place and look around a bit and understand what is happening around you. By the way, for those that think all this is just Cuomo's idle talk, and that it could never really happen, have another look at those Austrailian video clips that have been posted on this forum, only this time listen to the words .... lol.2 points

ALBANY -- Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Thursday that he plans to unveil a "full package" of gun-control proposals in his State of the State address on Jan. 9, following the tragic school shootings in Newtown, Conn. The Democrat said he has had discussions with the leaders of the Republican-led state Senate and Democrat-controlled Assembly, but not about specific details. In a radio interview, he said the focus of his proposals "is assault weapons . . . and the accessibility of these guns." He even floated the possibility of confiscating assault weapons that are currently legal.. ...................Cuomo acknowledged the state law has many loopholes. "In this state, the assault weapon ban has more holes than Swiss cheese," he said. The governor, who owns a shotgun, added: "I don't think legitimate sportsmen are going to say I need an assault weapon to go hunting." I guess I missed the point in American history where the King of England wanted to confiscate firearms so the colonist couldn't hunt anymore. The 2nd Amendment has NOTHING to do with hunting.1 point

My opinion is $8K is way too expensive, unless you only want a giant. Here's another one, in Wyoming As seen on ESPN, Outdoor Channel, etc. http://www.blisscreekoutfitters.com/index.html $3,600 - $5,600 depending on when you go and what you hunt with. Archery Elk Our archery elk season runs from September 1 to September 30. This is the majestic bugle season. Our archery elk hunts are true wilderness experiences and not for the half-hearted hunter. Your physical condition will determine how much your guide can do with you. Our archery elk hunts are 8 days in length.Success varies from year to year. Shooting success at bulls 40 yards or less has averaged around 75% in the past 18 years with the harvest depending on the hunters. We take 4 to 8 bowhunters per hunt. The Wyoming Game & Fish Deparment has 25 "archery only" tags set aside for this area. Archery tags are almost guaranteed. These hunts fill up quickly so book early. Rifle Elk General rifle elk season runs October 1-21. We run 7-day hunts with one or two-hunters per guide. We take 4-8 hunters per hunt, with 5-6 hunters being the average. Hunting will vary from calling in bulls, to glassing and stalking, to still hunting through timber. Lots of horseback riding, day and night, and walking are usually required. On all of our elk hunts we hunt all day long. You will be leaving the base camp in the dark and returning in the dark. Late Season Elk November 1-30 is our late elk season. This is when the big bulls migrate out of the high fall range and out of Yellowstone National Park down to the winter range. It is not uncommon to see herds of 100-200 elk. This is the time of year when the chance of getting a really big bull are high. Success on these hunts is near 100% on 300 B&C bulls.1 point

From the Site: The elk we hunt are typical northwest Colorado elk consisting mostly of 4- to 6-point bulls (legal bulls are 4 or more points on one side) scoring up to around 320-330" on the top end. Our elk aren't huge but the sheer numbers are staggering. Rifle elk hunting at Nine Mile is fabulous! It's not uncommon for some of our hunters to actually see elk in the hundreds here during the rifle season. Rifle hunters also experience nearly 100% shot opportunity.1 point

because could you imagine what would have happened if they violently apprehended someone exercising their 1st amendment while they stand up for the 2nd? I was surprised at the time it took, but they had to be very careful of how they handled them.1 point

because their solution is to protect the children instead of wishing and praying. Is heroin, crack, meth etc legal in schools or anywhere? No. Is it still there? yes. So banning guns from law abiding citizens will also stop criminals... or will it empower them knowing nobody else has a gun? I believe someone said it well earlier "sickos know schools are great targets because they are gun free zones"1 point

If they make them illegal to possess, they don't have to come to your door to collect them. And as far as what they might do, your guess is as good as mine. Nothing is really off the table. This latest deal at Newtown has created a great opportunity for the gun confiscators. They are giddy over the possibilities and are willing and eager to take maximum advantage. Hopefully the idea of checks and balances will be at work on this issue, but in this instant atmosphere of panic and hype and emotionality, nothing would surprise me.1 point

Bill do you honestly think that someone intending to kill is going to choose not to do it just because they cant use an AR15? We need to address the real issues, not inanimate objects.1 point

Here is the original link: http://www.newsday.com/elections/cuomo-to-unveil-gun-control-proposals-on-jan-9-1.4360822 I didn't hilight the Republican/Democrat words, It does that when you copy an article, it allows you to hyperlink to their definition I guess. I don't expect any support from either the Democrat controlled NY State Assembly or the Democrat controlled NY State Senate. The Republicans lost control of the Senate this year and we can expect anything to pass both houses now.1 point

This question was put out there and this was my answer. After a long discussion. I finally broke and said this would be the only way I go for anything regarding more gun laws. Is there any rational and achievable way to keep these type of weapons out of the hand of these mentally sick individuals ? 100% out of there hands? Never....But a way to try to get this done would be a immediate notification to a data base of someone being treated for mental disorders.Addresses would be flagged through data base, immediate response by law enforcement to make sure guns are kept locked or taken away. Complete check everytime during a gun purchase of any kind. Stop private sales unless completed through a FFL similar to a gun transfer. No more gun permits, every one must be certified by a gun card for types of guns. No further ban on any guns. Immediate laws regarding parents who do not treat mentally sick kids.1 point

But if we did place vets or armed guards in front of schools it would work against us gun owners to. because not only would that scare the kids it would also be feeding the antis more ammunition bye saying if there wasnt guns we wouldnt need the protection in the first place. ..just my opinion. but i agree we shouldnt have to fear sending our kids to school period...1 point

There are more xbow hunters than vertical bow hunters in Ohio if I remember correctly the last time I saw stats on it. When I dropped my deer off to donate there, the meat locker mgr. took the deer in and asked me how far of a shot. I replied 30 yards, and he said" wow, that is a great crossbow shot, right in the heart." I had to explain to him that I hunt with a compound bow...and he goes, "oh a long bow, don't see many hunting with long bows. That's a phenomenal shot then for a long bow." I was thinking he was mistaken when he kept saying long bow...but everyone there seems to refer to compounds, recurves, and long bows, as simply long bows. Crazy. Get ready, I think it is coming.1 point

Oh please. Then you fellas wonder why the rest of society wants to take away your guns and thinks all of us are looneys?? My goodness. A psychologist would need only 2 minutes with many of you, and then he'd put a nice big fat X on the box that says "Applicant is a looneybird, do NOT allow to purchase or possess a firearm". Are you guys for real or what?? Sure don't look like an AR to me in that video. Tell me, how do you guys come up with this stuff? I tell you, some of you better pray every night that mental evaluations are NEVER required to purchase a gun, because a good many of you wouldn't be allowed to own a sharp pencil never mind a gun. Unbelievable.1 point

no i think he is saying that if the gov tries to force us to comply to rules that violate our God given rights or our personal belives we should have the power to say no and have them respect our desision. and if they dont possibly the 2nd american revolution would happen as people resist and the gov trys to force them, cause we are AMERICANS and we DONT like being told what to do, its in our blood and a brief study of american history will show that americans are a VERY free spirited people.... (in fact thats prob the only reason we still have guns at all...)1 point

The Flash light App is handy, Gas buddy for finding the cheapest gas, ihandy level is fun, various news apps, if you are going to put music on it you can get one called soundhound which is one where you can activate it and hold it up to an unknown song and it will tell you what the song is and you can download it right from there. I have never butt dialed with mine but I know you can set it up to require a code to unlock instead of the slide bar. Battery life can be saved by closing out app's and by messing with some of the settings. To close out app's double tap the button at the bottom of the phone and then hold your finger over the app's until the mius sign comes up. Then go through and hit all the minus's and close them all out, it doesn't delete anything just shuts them off. I highly recomend a case of some sort. I have the plain old 4.1 point

I'm willing to bet that this thread winds up with the fewest pages of entire firearms banning discussion. There is no way to dispute the failures of gun banning when you hear them in the words of those who have experienced it. This will be the thread that the gun control fanatics of this site will wish had never been posted and I am sure they will avoid it like the plague.....lol.1 point

There was a bit of confusion at the Dicks Sporting goods store this morning. When I was ready to pay for my purchases of gun powder and bullets the cashier said, "Strip down, facing me." Making a mental note to complain to Harper about the gun registry people running amok. I did just as she had instructed. When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided, I found out that she was referring to my credit card. I have been asked to shop elsewhere in the future. They need to make their instructions to us seniors a little clearer !1 point

I don't think new gun purchasers all need to have mental evaluations. Not like people can't be sane one day and then go nuts down the road somewhere. What SHOULD happen is that anyone already evaluated by doctors to have some mental issues that could be deemed hazardous should be put on a list that would be hooked up with NICS checks. If these people come in to buy a gun, they would not pass the NICS check. Real simple actually. Nothing is foolproof of course, but to do NOTHING will not work.1 point

Well said????? Are you serious??? 'the greater tragedy' than the murder of 20 innocent children would be a reduction in gun rights???? Why, because gun ownership is a 'god given right'??? Are you serious? What about the right to LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness??? If this letter were sent and made public, it would further outrage the public. This is exactly the type of thinking that causes the general public to think that all gun owners are whackjobs.1 point

12/18 pm 39 Well got out for the last watch out back. It was raining so hit the tower blind. Not much going on but enjoyed the sit going over the season in my head and thankful that I was healthy and able to hunt a whole lot!! My bow season was slow but successful and gun season was better than usual for the first two weeks. After that things got slow. Muzzleloader was a bust due mostly to getting the flu, thankful that the freezer was in great shape by then. I enjoyed many days out, could of had a bit more snow!! I will be looking forward to expanding my sausagemaking skills this year. I really felt the pinch again this year on loss of hunting areas. I need to look into trying to add the neighbors 27 acres to mine, after the holidays I will have to pay him a visit. Also need to get out the chainsaws and start the orchard this year. I hope everyone has a happy and healthy holiday season!!! It is always great sharing the fall with you all!!1 point

Go figure, there is always one idiot. My brother posted the video and we own the land together. There is no bait in the video, or on the land, end of story....besides it takes a bonafide genius to post a picture or a video with bait, since it is illegal. So Bowshot...take your bait theory to some other thread. Knowing the land, and the tree stand, there is browse all over the property and that wouldn't show up that far away on the video.1 point

I went over to a buddys place yesterday, and we got into the woods early. He was setup a few hundred yards south of me, and his dad was a few hundred yards west. On the way in, we saw a ton of coyote tracks, all fresh in the snow. I have never seen so much coyote sign in one place before. He has told me the place is overrun, but I guess I never got how bad it was until yesterday. Gonna make a big push to take some of them out for him after deer season is done. Daylight comes, and the fresh snow on the ground makes it a beautiful hunt. Just a few minutes after legal light, I hear my buddys 308 Encore handgun go off. I waited, and didnt hear a follow up shot and texted to see what he got. He had a nice doe down. I sat and watched the squirrels running around, but didnt see any deer. After a couple of hours my feet were frozen, and we decided to get down and make a small push toward his fathers stand. As I was walking down the side of a cut corn field, I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye and heard my buddy yell "Look to your right!" from the next hilltop over. I looked and saw just the tops of 3 does heads bounding along in a draw about 100 yards to my right. I couldnt see their bodies and tried to get into a position where I could, but by the time I had a clear shot, they were at about 150 yards, and I would have to make the shot offhand. I passed on that and they disappeared into the hardwoods. We finished the push and went and loaded up his doe. I headed home for a bite and a quick nap before the afternoon hunt. Later on, I got back to his place and we headed out for the afternoon. I decided I would head to the same stand, as it sat between some thick cover, with a big goldenrod field behind that, the open hardwoods out front and a big rye field off to my left. Should be a great set for the afternoon to catch the deer headed out to feed. It was a nice quiet sit with squirrels running around, and even a Peregrine Falcon making an appearance on the branch above me. Right about 3:20, my buddy texted that he saw a couple of doe headed toward the goldenrods. Shortly after that I heard something tromping around through the tick stuff behind me, but I couldnt see what it was. At 4:10, I looked toward the field edge, and there was 6 deer headed up the edge, toward 2 shooting lanes I had. I got my gun up and found a good opening, the shot would be @ 90 yards and I had an ok rest for my elbows, so I figured it would be a good opportunity. I waited for the biggest doe in the group, which looked like a horse, to step into the lane. As soon as she got in there, I took aim on her shoulder and started to squeeze the trigger. Just as I did, she took another step and quartered to me. Boom! Through the cloud of smoke I saw 4 deer head back the way they came, and 2 ran straight toward me. The doe I had shot ended up stopping 20 yards behind me, laid down and never got back up. My buddy came over and we checked the doe, I hit her through the lung and liver, she ran less than 100 yards. The first thing we noticed was her size, she was a very big doe, and her head was huge. We guessed her age at 3 1/2 to 4 1/2, but I didnt have time to mess with pulling a jaw bone. My buddy was almost sure that this doe had been giving him fits, busting him for the last couple of years. We spent the night getting our two deer cut up, it was a great day. The picture really doesnt do this doe justice. This doe makes deer #4 for me this season, which puts me at a new high for deer in one season. I have had a kill on every property I have hunted this year as well. Still a couple of weeks left to hunt too! What a season its been so far!1 point
