I had a weird experience once involving a 4 wheeler and trailer. After towing it home from hunting camp one year I backed up to the garage to unload the 4 wheeler. Dropped the gate, jumped on the 4 wheeler and backed it off the trailer, at the same time a trooper was driving by. He made a u-turn and pulled in my driveway. I was stumped to why, he got out and proceeded to tell me he was going to issue me a ticket for failure to wear a helmet while operating an atv. I was shocked, so my usual smart azz self pulled my cell out of my pocket and acted like I was making a phone call. The trooper asked who I was calling and I say the police, he looked at me pretty oddly and said why? I told him he was on private property and was trespassing. He said have a nice day and left. Odd story but it is a true one.4 points

It's just called Pan-Seared Sushi. Tartar (or rather Tartare) is when raw meat is diced up into tiny little bits and usually mixed with herbs and spices. It's no different than eating Kitfo at an Ethiopian restaurant which is actually pretty tasty. I trust eating raw meat at a restaurant mainly because I can sue them if anything goes wrong. I can't sue myself.3 points

at 71 years young and married for 48 years I have to say thank god for a wife that new from day 1 that I was crazy about hunting and fishing. She over the years has been nothing but supportive. I also shot for a lot of years almost every Sunday from April thru August each year with archery, NFAA, or ASA or IBO. I also belong to several clubs as well. So if you have a wife that support your hunting etc, take the time prior to the season to take her out to dinner as a thank you. My hunting buddy and I use to do that for years, in September take them out to a fine dinner and again say thanks for all the supports in our man things. I lost my buddy G Gardner several years ago so the hunting has not been the same, we use to take all of September to do our early scouting and placement of tree stands etc, we also use to keep a book at the camp ( named Outdoors forever of South Oselic NY ) of were we found sign or found deer as we hunted or scouted. During all the years I new we were crazy but also we seemed to get good bucks each year and the fun with these hunts will live in my heart always.2 points

I do the necks in the slow cooker like you would do pork for pulled pork. The ribs go to the yotes.2 points

....and within the "Trail Camera Pictures" category. About that time of year for the annual "mature vs young buck, AR, shooting what's legal, my opinion should be yours" discussion, eh?2 points

It's especially neat to see them walking along and then all of a sudden get some burst of playfulness and start hopping and bouncing around sometimes jumping sideways. What gets into their head is anybody's guess .... lol.1 point

My first real introduction to shore fishing for blues, stripers and shad in the surf and around bridges was in Rhode Island. I had done some before, but had a good teacher up there and he taught me a lot. There was some really good fishing there. By baby blues, do you mean snappers ? There are blues around down here in various sizes, but I don't think that the snappers are in. If snappers are in they are probably really small. Just some basic stuff : For snappers I would try a "snapper popper" and small spoons like 1/8th oz., maybe even 1/4 oz. silver kastmasters and the like. If you mean small bluefish , a pound, or so, I would try tins like a 005, or even a 007. Small spoons like Kastmasters maybe 1/2 oz., or 3/4 oz. will wok too for both. Small saltwater poppers for the blues can be good also. I never caught a shad on a popper though... I like white soft plastics on lead heads in appropriate sizes, but the blues eat them up, so it get's costly (I don't care because I'm a bluefish fanatic).. Lures with treble hooks can be a pain in the butt, especially for the blues. I've been hooked, and bitten gettin' them out. Unhooking a bluefish especially in a kayak can be hazardous.. I now use a lip grip and pliers. If you can check with a local tackle store you may get some specifics for up there. Remember to bring pliers, or a hook remover for the blues. If there are blues, you may want to consider having a few wire leaders When shad are in sometimes I tie on a teaser a foot, or so above the lure. That'll catch both also. I would also consider carrying lures for bigger blues, and maybe stripers, just in case they are around. It's kinda all trial and error, so you have to change until you find what they want. I love catching both and love the way those shad jump. Just a thought, when Shad are around, sometimes, if you catch one, if you live line it on a heavier setup you can catch really nice stripers and bluefish I hope this helps1 point

agreed. we do 1 or 2 a year in the crock. But I agree, it's a pain. maybe i'm reading your post wrong, but I really hope you didn't just state you cut the backstraps out and leave the rest of the deer in the woods.1 point

I never said I necessarily agreed with the statement. Although, i do see the point. Id rather hunt around others that are hunting, rather than those that are walking around scouting. Then again, the guys scouting could bump something by my stand. Theres an up side and a down side to every opinion on the subject. Some just refuse to see the side they dont agree with.1 point

I recall someone saying that America had finally succumbed to propaganda. Sad but true and it will be difficult if not impossible to reverse this trend. America has become the giant plant from the "Little Shop of Horrors". feed it the blood of Americans and the result is an appetite that grows and grows to the point where it can no longer be appeased. Ignorant liberals believe they are taming the arrogant monster that America had become, but in reality they are creating a even bigger monster that has already eaten every dollar earned by hard working Americans. A monster that now owes trillions and can only survive in the future by sucking every drop of blood from these same American workers. That monster is our America under Barack Hussein Obama and sadly there is no cure for ignorant Americans that have succumbed to propaganda.1 point

Pretty much what US conservatives have been saying about him from the get go... one of the comments under the video says it best... "Sadly, it doesn’t seem to bother most Americans that we have a President and his wife who act like royalty and continually embarrass this Country. But, we have become a Country “intimidated” with anyone who speaks the truth, and instead are called racists. These mental dwarfs called “liberals” are an embarrassment as well. People like Martin Bashhir, Chris Matthews, and even more sickening Piers Morgan and John Daly…make us look and sound like fools. Incredible our Country has become a bunch of brainless bottom feeders."1 point

Is 3.5 mature to you? Tough call in my book. While I reference 3.5s as being the line in the sand for NY, I wouldn't consider a 3.5 fully mature. One thing that I am not a fan of, is the term "manage the herd," Quite simply, in a free range scenario, you are not managing the herd. You can manage the land, you can manage the trigger pullers, but you can never "manage the herd."1 point

I usually hang by the hind legs. I don't like what blood is left to pool in the best cuts of meat. Try hanging the other way.1 point

i dont care who you are or what state you live in. There is always good genetics around its how us, as hunters, manage the herd. Meaning let a 2 year old buck walk and wait on a mature deer. even if it means not filling a tag for the year! if you want meat in the freezer, Shoot a doe! theres always plenty of them to go around.1 point
