  1. Culling free range deer is like peeing into the wind. Cull is a term free range hunters use to kill deer with a rationalization that makes them sleep better at night for shooting a young deer before they would otherwise do so. Nothing wrong with shooting a young deer at all. Just own it and dont hide behind genetics, or some other made up excuse to not make you feel bad about it in front of other people. If he trips your trigger, thats all that matters.

  5. Humor is a bit sick... As people age and head to our end..... time seems to go by much fast....but then with in that perception of time...... every thing we do seems to take 2-3 times longer to accomplish...yep that is a sick sense of humor right there.....

  13. I made a homemade roller to pull behind my ATV. I used a heavy duty plastic 55 gallon drum. I cut a hole in each end in the center of the drum. I then pushed a metal pipe slightly smaller than the hole I drilled. Then I made a frame out of leftover hardwood floor planks to connect to the metal pipe on each end and around the drum. Then I made a drop pin connection point to hook onto the ATV draw bar. I fill the drum half full of water through one of the screw caps on the top of the drum then replace the cap to hold the water in. Water will leak out where the metal pipe goes through the drum until it brings the level down when it will stop leaking for the most part. The drum half full (or so) with water and the hardwood frame weighs about 200 lbs. It works well to pull over a well prepared food plot bed to push the seed down for good germination contact.

  14. I am pretty sure the big 8 point is the buck pictured from last year with the broken rack. It took everything in me to pass on him last year. Hopefully it pays off. The 11 point has a unique sticker growing on his right side.Any rough guesses on the age of these 2 deer and what they might score?

  15. I wasn't getting any big buck pics on the plot side of my stand so I moved it about 30 yards and faced it towards my stand. Man am I happy these guys showed up! The big guy I think is a 3 or 4 year old and the other one I'm pretty sure is a 3 year old that I think really blew up from last year (comparing brow tines). I've put a picture from last year in as well, let me know if you think its the same buck.

  16. Why on earth would you want a higher power scope than a 2X on a .35 Rem ? 2x gives you plenty of resolution on any shot a .35 is capable of ( say 250 yards max). The extra eye relief and field of view of the 2x scope is more valuable than a bit more magnification, ESPECIALLY at woods hunting ranges on moving targets. What would a variable do other than complicate things..?.. ......KISS.....

  23. its a yearling buck, many do not have brows 1st year...if you can pass deer for 3-4 years getting the same deer on camera with exactly the same horns, then you could think about cull buck.. in nys 99% of all deer are killed before you can determine what they would grow into.. nothing should be culled per say before 3.5 or 4.5 ...

  34. 1 pin HHA dial. It stays on 25 yds most of the time , good from 5-30yds (+ or - a couple inches) . I practice at 60 yds or so most of the time though, makes the hunting yardages seem easy..

  35. It's the fair chase argument. It's also that as hunters sometimes we are portrayed in a negative light about what we do. Baiting an animal turns things even more in the hunters favor and appears to some/most that you're no longer really hunting, but instead you're killing. I think it varies by region as well. Some have seen thinning herds and others are overpopulated. It's not a cut and dry topic. Like some, if it became legal i'm not sure I'd get down. Same reason I don't feel a need to hunt with dogs or with a crossbow in Mississippi. legal or not, it's not for me.

  36. I just can't see cultivating a piece of land, planting seed and letting it grow, and pouring a bag of store bought factory made feed stuff, as the same thing. Food plots have to grow (and maybe they won't) and can only be placed in certain spots. Farmers fields and food plots will sustain wildlife before, during and after deer season. Store bought feed and attractants are meant to attract deer to one small spot, while the hunter is there and it can be placed anywhere. It can't be put out in the middle of a block of tall pines where there is no sunlight & poor soil. If no deer come into it a "hunter" can move to a swampy area and pour some feed out there. No hits? move to some deep hardwoods and pour some out there. Guy who hunt plots and fields can't bring them to different locations. I get the "they both attract deer" thing but no way are they the same IMHO.

  43. Hi NFA-ADK - I can answer your question with a question myself, and how can I coax you and your family / friends to Eden to see the show on September 13th? (LOL - joking here...) I'm not sure how far East Charlie goes with his talk, but hopefully you'll get an opportunity to attend one. The invite to come to Eden is wide open, although a bit of a trek for you... As nyantler says above, the religious message at the very end of the show isn't an "in your face" message, rather a review of Charlie's experiences and how it's impacted his personal and hunting life. There is a lot of great deer information to be shared, as well as the opportunity to talk with many other hunters. Certainly it's up to everyone to decide what they want to do and participate in, and I can assure you that there are many positive reasons to come to the show on the 13th. I had an opportunity to talk to a lot of people at our local summer festival this weekend and there is a lot of interest and excitement about the show and the many give-aways planned. Tickets and information at: www.EdenDeerShow.com. The more tickets we sell, the more we'll give away... Thanks!
