Not sure where this was taken or when. I also love the Winchester 1894 rifle he's got here.3 points

this tells me that your deer have functioning waste removal intestine tracts. and at some point in their life they've eaten something....thats all anyone can get from this with the info given3 points

Deer were out pretty early feeding. Some turkeys decided they wanted a birds eye view of me before they take their bath. Thunder shower during the turkey pics.2 points

I got a call this morning from a friend in Pendleton who informed me that a flock of 80-100 honkers was set up in his rye field. Thats the good news, the bad news is I have obligations morning and evening until Wednesday evening, bummer. I grabbed a Migratory Bird stamp at the PO this afternoon, now I need a HIP number. Cigars are in the truck.............. Hopefully they are still in the area and nobody else gets into them by the time I get there but doubtful. I'll dig out the full body dekes from the loft, dust off the goose call, hunt down some triple B's from the cabinet and grab the SBE. Wait till the dog gets wind of this caper.2 points

My only pair of camo cover alls are ripped from the crotch to the knees. They still smell like last years deer, so I'll try to squeak another season out of them. I haven't made much of a fashion statement in the woods in a long time,lol2 points

my resident bucks are still in summer patterns, i usually get bucks end of september that are being dispursed by older/or more agressive resident bucks,or yearlings kicked out by mom . I have seen a lot more buck after really knocking doe numbers down and am as close to a 2or 3 to one ratio now.. to maintain that ratio i take 10 doe(not anterless but doe) a year. i think greater competition for a doe causes bucks to really move while searching.2 points

I believe the licenses are all the same. He'll have to follow the rules that are in place for ages 16+ as to taking of game. Once he turns 16 his "youth" privilege's end. I could be wrong. lol For instance he can hunt the youth deer season still and can take any deer. Once he turns 16, if you hunt in an area with AR he has to follow that same AR rule.2 points

I've heard that it's based on what they eat and that there is no difference of doe and buck stool by many2 points

I think hunter tactics play a larger role in this than most people think. Sure ranges come into play, but most people outhunt themselves. They take themselves out of the game early or make silly mistakes (learning opportunities nevertheless). These are also the same people that think the rut is the only time to kill a mature buck or any buck for that matter. Bucks don't simply materialize out of thin air. They have to exist somewhere. Why more hunters don't think about it that way is mindboggling.2 points

People worry about too much silly stuff. I am in public from time to time with camo jeans...nearly all of it is hunting related...running to the hardware store to pick up ratchet straps, or similar. I'm not wearing camo because it's camo, my prep jeans are just camo because they were $5 at Walmart and durable as all get out. People tell themselves stories too easily. The jamoke wearing the camo shirt or hat may be a stone cold killer and you might learn a thing or two. Or, he could very well be a wannabe hunter who has all the gear but hasn't hunted in ages or not at all. Then again, life's too short.2 points

Well they taste a little different, you'll have to sample a few piles to find out. The does are a sweeter and the buck's droppings are bitter/sour. Let us know what you find.2 points

The only time I remember going out in public in camo was when I showed up at the YMCA pool in my camoflage speedo.. Some kid told me that my wetsuit was wrinkled. I told him that I wasn't wearing a wetsuit...2 points

Yes, some people have more money than brains. I'm 59 now and I'd never spend that kind of money on outerwear. I didn't buy the expensive stuff when I was 30 either. There are other options, for far less, that are just as good.1 point

2-liter bottles or even milk jugs filled with water and frozen will stay frozen for some time, and are good to keep in the cavity to cool the meat.1 point

I get mine home as fast as possible, hang it up, skin it right away and then quarter it up and take it to the fridge. 2 back straps, 2 hind and front quarters I remove all the shelves from the fridge and put all the meat in there to cool. Works like a charm if you can do it.1 point

Guts out, hide off and hung in the shade at a minimum. All ASAP. Then depending on the actual temperature in the shade you could leave it for a bit, maybe covered with a sheet to keep flies off then butcher as quick as you can. I like to also stash a big bag of ice in the chest cavity to help speed the cooling process.1 point

On another note this recipe would have been great with little chunks of sharp cheddar mixed in.1 point

freeze it. if you have a vacuum sealer it will keep for over a year. if not wrap in saran wrap around each link and place in a freezer zip lock. Did your grinder come with a stuffer disc or did you run through the coarse plate twice? First time I tried it with the grinder it did kind of mush it because I didn't have the wide open stuffer pate. (basically a big spacer washer) http://www.meatprocessingproducts.com/lem610ss.html?gclid=CO6llfrL98ACFaTm7Aodrw4ASg That is why I bought a stuffer. Now I don't stuff with the grinder. easier to keep air from getting in the casings too.1 point

I just did the exact same thing two nights ago. Waiting for it to show up Thursday. As far as I can tell, the only difference between this year's for $400 and last year's for $200 is the way the wrists tighten. A piece of velcro is not worth $200 to me.1 point

They are constantly showing up down here. Need to make a season open here soon for trapping in the southern zone as they are such a pest to other game.1 point

They are here. I get them on my game cameras every year. Here's a photo. I wish had had one of these trained "killing machines" in my yard right now. The grafted hickory nuts are almost mature. I had to remove 7 red squirrels in the past week to protect my nuts. Where is a killing machine when you need one. A suggestion: put your game camera on your butchering scraps after deer are processed.1 point

Just where you feel comfortable, but obviously within your shooting range. I want to stress that you keep wind direction, speed, and swirl in mind. If you know where their bedding & feeding areas are, try to set up somewhere in the middle. You should also plan your route into the blind, again taking wind into consideration. It would be wise to have spots picked out for every wind direction. With a pair of pruning shears and some natural fiber twine you can make some pretty sweet blinds. Good luck and keep on asking questions, that's what we're here for.1 point

I have a drop away rest but my vanes have to be set a certain way to get clear from the riser (rest set close for tuning reasons). I fletch my own arrows and now do all my bow work myself too. The only reputable shop around is 40 minutes away and the guys are never there when I need them. Very satisfying to do the stuff yourself.1 point

Back in '87 a bunch of guys and myself packed in on horseback about two miles IIRC. We even had a couple horses drag wagons loaded with all the comforts of home. Wall tents, cook stoves, food and booze. 7 guys for 7 days and we NEVER saw a deer! (thats 49 days of hunting and seeing zip) I saw a bear but couldn't get a crack and another guy saw a coyote. That was it..................... Did I mention we had a blast? Oh yea, I just remembered.........on the way out one of the horses got spooked while tied to a road gate. The thing ripped a huge gash into its breast that took 75-100 stitches to close at a nearby vet. That sucked...1 point

That's illegal in NJ too. No CCW permits are issued unless you are politically connected, bribe someone, and are a multi-millionaire! The state leaves everyone defenseless.1 point

Wearing camo doesn't bother me, what bother me is the so called "Hunters" wearing it.I usually don't wear any camo out in public because of all the non hunters that wear it because it's col.The redneck thing is also worn the hell out in my opinion.1 point

Man Red that is a crappy deal. Gimme a break, a trail camera on state land warrants a ticket? Lame..................................He COULD have left a warning on the camera and I'm sure that would have gotten your attention. Prick.....................1 point

I hung this treestand yesterday and went to throw a seat on it this morning. This is why you should never pee on your climbing sticks until you're ready to hunt, lol My stand is just above the buck on the left.1 point

I do not know how mankind ever survived in the woods before high power magnum rounds existed. Pioneers and mountain men shoot a lot of game with 45 caliber round balls and funny thing the crttters died. I guess they morphed into super animals that it takes a 300 win mag to kill a deer (without 10 rounds) A lot have fallen into the bigger better faster mind set. My cousin hunts exclusively with a 243 with remington corelokt 100 grain bullets and had shot a lot of deer with it with it and a couple medium sized black bears. No problem with killing power or trailing. As stated shot placement is critical. But in my books it is with any round.1 point
