  1. Out for a short hike yesterday when I found this little yearling surrendering to the harshness of winter. I'm sure this little deer was frightened out of it's mind by me, but near the end she just seemed to accept the fact that she was going to die and didn't fight it off any longer. Things got a little hairy when I crawled under the tree with her. The shot of her standing up in my face was the last shot I took before she put the hooves to me and decided to run through me instead of around me,lol

  4. As some of you read I lost my best friend (my dog) on 2/20......Life seems terribly empty without a dog by my side so I am hopeful a new addition will be just what the doctor ordered. He is only 5 weeks old so I can't have him until 3/28. I will never forget my boy Zimba but I am hoping for many new great memories with the new addition. I am thinking about calling him Milo..........Ruger, Parker, Samson, Chevy and Hudson are some other names on the list but I keep going back to Milo....

  9. This thread will serve as the official rules and entry thread for the youth hunt. This year there will be three judges... Wooly, Paula and myself. We will judge the contestants based on the following rules... 1. The youth hunter or mentor must submit a picture of the youth or of the two of them with their harvest. 2. A brief story of the hunt, preferably written by the youth, must be submitted. 3. You must post both your picture and story on this thread only!!! PLEASE DO NOT START ANOTHER THREAD FOR THE CONTEST ENTRY!! 4. The deadline for submitting your entry is 12:00am ( midnight ) on April 29. So if you harvest a bird make sure to enter it on this thread before then!! The winner will be chosen based on a combination of best picture and story submitted. The size of the bird WILL NOT be taken into account, although we encourage that you post the birds stats. As far as the judges are concerned all birds harvested are a trophy!! There will be some great prizes given away this year and we wish everyone a safe and successful hunt!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! This is not run by HuntingNY.com

  10. Didn't the Oneida Nation (NY) start the ball rolling with this whole thing? If a large portion of the Native American population is offended by the name and want it gone, then it needs to go. If its a mixed reaction….What do you do? It seems to me that "Redskin" would be offensive to native americans, but my vote doesn't count.

  11. I know that there are darn few people that feel good about shooting animals that have been bred for domestication. But as a kid, we had some experiences where dogs got into our sheep, and I can tell you that there is nothing innocent, or loveable about a group of dogs that run loose and entertain their instincts from their ancestors. We had thousands of dollars of damage, of the most ruthless sort. These dogs were not killing out of hunger. Not a one of the sheep was actually eaten. Just enough damage was done to kill each sheep or leave them in a condition where they had to be destroyed. The interesting thing about these dogs was that they all were domestic family pets that were allowed to run free and take up some new hobbies. All of them were licensed, with tags, but totally unsupervised. I have also seen dogs running deer and ripping them apart, a bite at a time over long distances ..... not hardly the behavior that anyone assigns to the family pet, but almost always that is exactly what they are. So it's nice to have a soft spot in your heart for the loyal house pet, but don't be fooled into thinking that their calm, good nature as they are flopped out with their head on your lap is anything that cannot reverse 180 degrees when running loose with a couple of neighborhood pals. And the same thing is true of the family pussy-cat that is booted out the door in the morning to simply do what comes natural to them all day long.

  26. Get one before season, and play with the spring position, purrs cuts and yelps are ver easy yo do, I do not use a mouth call and push boxes and pot calls are all I use. I like the double push box by quakerboy nothing brings in birds like 2 hens fighting, very easy to use and do with that push box. I think birds come easier when they here 2 birds vs 1 especially if shot at by a single caller.

  27. lets see here Early teens I ran an am and pm paper routes, mowed 3 or 4 neighbors lawns and assisted the upholstery shop in the neighborhood. Mid teens - all of that as well as spent a summer sealing driveways(that sucked). Late teens- 20's I pumped gas, worked at McDonald's, was a pizza maker, ran the desk at a Howard Johnsons, worked at a bowling alley and learned to repair Brunswick equipment, tended bar and a machine operator. Always had two jobs plus a couple years of college. The Machine Operator job turned into a Lead then a Crew Chief then a Regional Manager to Operations Manager which I do now. I manage over 30 manufacturing facilities in the eastern half of the country. I work from home in my t-shirt, shorts and bare feet 90% of the time. This allows me to walk out the back door and hunt before and after work most of the season.

  28. Ives Goddard, a Smithsonian Institution senior linguist and curator emeritus, asserts that the term was originally benign in meaning, and reflected positive aspects of early relations between Native Americans and whites. It emerged at a specific period in history (1769–1826) among a small group of men linked by joint activities; this provided its context. Goddard cites historical instances of Native Americans identifying as red men, or RED-SKIN, and redskins.[15] However in an interview Goddard admits that it is impossible to verify if the native words were accurately translated.[16] Johnathan Buffalo, historic preservation director of the Meskwaki Nation, also known as the Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa, said tribal members in the 1800s used “redskins” as a simple term of identifying themselves — just as they identified others as “whiteskins” or “blackskins” — without any derogatory intent.[17]

  29. When I was a kid my parents adopted two pure bred labs from a breeder to give them better homes for last year of lives we had them 5 or 6 years and the breeder had bred them right before we took them in. Apparently the dogs down the road could smell them when they got loose and stood on my parents back porch barking aggressively toward them in the room where they had their puppys....my dad tried to shoo them away but dogs came at him. It was late on the night and he came down and asked for my paintball gun after the cops had givin him permission to dispatch them if nessasary and they were in route. So he came and got me and my paintball guns and we lit them dogs up. They ended up leaving cops took his statement and next day went door to door to the farms around until they found the Orange painted dogs. We didn't not file charges about it bc we didn't end up loosing and puppys in the commotion of the mom jumping around and trying to make sure they were protected but the cops did inform him that if it happened again it would be deadly force not paintballs....idk what got into them thay day as I had seen them while riding my bike by his house durring summer and never had them act aggressively toward me...just goes to show as soon as they are away from masters they can change dramatically...

  30. According to this, I can legally shoot cats hunting wild birds at my feeder, at bird houses, etc - feral or otherwise. That is news to me. I don't want to shoot anyone's pet but we have had big problems with feral cats in the past. Thanks.

  31. I believe it was done intentionally. I also believe more will be intentionally checked like that in the future. The whole law should be overturned as unconstitutional just because there is no due process or legal recourse for the accused after their rights have been violated. I don't believe there is any other offense one could commit that would be handled this way.

  32. How they might feel? Did you ever discuss with them how they actually feel? From what I've read, most native Americans don't have an issue with it. Seems the one's that do, and it's not many compared to the entire native population, are politically connected, being paid to push the agenda or stand to profit politically from the protest.

  33. I think a lot of them voted for the same guys that rammed the SAFE Act through because they thought it didn't affect them, only the "extremists" that want to own "assault weapons". As long as their own self interests were OK, they couldn't care less about anyone else's. After they found out how it would affect them with NICS checks, ammo buys and pistol permits, they got upset. Too little, too late.

  35. We like our guns locked up safe & secure like Obama's birth records! We like our guns like Obama likes his voters, undocumented! Guns are cheap compared to Obama care & have much better coverage! Harry Reid said our borders are secure. Did they legalize crack in Washington ? Criminals obey gun laws like politicians follow their oaths of office! I believe some of these could apply to King Andy also!

  37. Albania was under one of the most brutal communist dictators so most masques and churches were destroyed because the leader believed that religion was a determent to communism. The ethnic blood between Albanians and other nationalities has nothing to do with religion like you said so they have Zero merit in your response. Again I will say there is and has not been religious conflicts between Albanians since the time of Gjergj Kastrioti.

  38. Shows how much you know! There is Zero prosecution of Christians in Albania which is the main reason why the Pope went to Albania...Go look that up. Ill help you out on that one though...He said it was one of the only countries to have ZERO religious conflicts in the whole world. I know the KLA and they were brought about because of the atrocities done to the Kosovar Albanians by the Serbian police and they are in no way a Wahhabi group in fact they never even use Islam as a banner, instead using their Albanian heritage. Catholic, Orthodox and Muslims fought and died together in the KLA. Those accusations are so outrageous I cant even fathom where they came from. They are actually supplying the Kurdish fighters against ISIS with weapons and munitions. Funny how you literally got everything wrong about this.

  40. I've posted the solution to this earlier on in the thread... Used to do it all the time hunting in FL swamps .... Dress the deer , seat goes in cavity , shoulders over the handle bars with the head resting in a basket , Little book rack looking thing on the back for the hind end to rest on , strap er down n walk em out .... Transportation and game cart in one , of course FL land was relatively flat and had levy systems/roads running throughout the land to drag the deer to then much easier to wheel em out .... I've been contemplating resurrecting this technique for Darien Lake! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  42. Ha....My 2 nieces will sell my rifles to the first lucky schmuck that comes along for 50 bucks each...... Hope its not someone I have on ignore here. Like to have a copy of Osa Johnson's 9.3x62 Mauser to play with and take on a hunt. You can google her....but in short she and her husband did a bunch of filming of safari hunts and exploring in Africa back in the 20's. Husband ran the camera and she did the shooting. They also filmed cannibal tribes in the South Pacific and had a few nasty encounters along the way.
