Why are there so many idiots out there faking cougar sightings?? I mean I have actually seen a few around Highland Forest, in Onondaga Co., and I even killed one once on my front porch with my pocket knife (photos got destroyed in a mud slide), but why lie about it.7 points

Wow; bullets flying by the standers head, shooting and hitting a skylined buck, running with loaded guns and trying to shoot a deer in a herd that is running. Awesome.... I'll be passing on buying that DVD thank you.6 points

Welcome Zach! So glad you decided to join us. ( I didn't know he did, until after he signed himself up.) There are some really great people and hunters here. They are always willing to help with any hunting and outdoors questions. I have learned a lot from them myself! Just pull up a seat and join in anytime! You are the best hunting buddy a grampy could ever ask for. I too, Iook forward to this hunting season with you and all the hunting seasons we will have together. I love the time we spend together. Your enthusiasm and always being there, keeps me young. I'm so proud of you and love you very much. Thanks for the nice comments. You guy's are awesome!6 points

My son and I built two today in the rain. Used nothing but what the woods provided. My 13 yr old said, "Dad this is cool". Good times Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk4 points

I had a similar problem with a stand. I knew who owned the stand, mailed him a note with a deadline to remove it if it was his. It was gone by the deadline. Damaging the wall and cutting a road for his ATV is beyond the pale.3 points

Not my style of driving, but fun to watch. Except for the shot uphill with rifle where the hunter couldn't tell what was over the crest of the hill... that wasn't cool.2 points

I feel it's all about the parents or mentors in just about anything. Take driving a car for instance. What is a young person going to learn from a poor or reckless driver? So many things, good and bad, are learned from what a young person observes. We can't lump all the responsible parents and mentors, with the few wingnuts out there who know little more than the one's they are mentoring.2 points

At bottom of a REPLY, go to MORE REPLY OPTIONS at bottom right. ATTACH FILES will appear at bottom of new screen. On your PC, simply find the locations, the photos and choose them. Not sure how this is accomplished when logged-in on a phone. Must be a very similar process though.2 points

I've shot a pile of deer on drives. But now that we're "managed" that's out on the farm . We always had the watchers 1/2 mile or more from the drivers . You post up where the deer are going to generally for us across a large field to the next patch of cover. By the time they get there they often stop and stare before committing to entering it, that makes it easy to drop 1,2 . We had exact trees and bushes they run to every time . " you stay behind this bush and don't move, they'll pop,out of that little dip in the field" I miss that .2 points

Agreed, most guys have a very hard time aging a deer that still has his "summer body". Once that deer starts to get a little testosterone in him people will swear he's older than 5.5. Definitely a beautiful deer that goes a long way to show what time can do. Genetics and nutrition are great but the #1 factor is age.2 points

Shooting off the bench with the lead sled is one thing for me. I can get 1 inch groups from my cheap savage too. But like you, shooting freehand is another whole ballgame, and a six inch group is pretty darned good! I have never been what I consider a great shot. Lots of guy's can and do outshoot me at the range. But I very rarely miss a deer.2 points

I saw three big bucks at a place that I hunt the other night, including a STUD 10-pt. The following day I went out to hang a camera and found an apple tree on the edge of the field close to where the bucks were feeding that was dropping apples like crazy. It seemed like a good spot to get some pics of the big one. Just got in from checking the cam...I haven't gotten him yet, but one of his smaller buddies visited...love the mass on this guy.1 point

I used to use walnut hulls for dying. It gave them a black color that stayed with them for a long time. I always loved the trap preparations activity. It's all part of it. Traps have the oils to prevent rusting prior to sales. It's a cheap rust deterrent. And as Predate said the waxing is a scent elimination deal. So having them waxed and sitting around in a store with stinky people touching and all around them would be a wasted process.1 point

There's a few that has done just the opposite, thinking they are posting in a political forum, but happens to be a hunting forum instead. [emoji30] X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems1 point

Count me in. Always wanted to do that but i would bring my smokepole or 300Wby Mag. Love to bowhunt but if i had a one time chance at Canada it would be in the middle of winter and i would want to be able to score on that big dark antlered 300lbs brute.1 point

I don't think there is any issue with a bow... You have to register your firearms, but I don't believe that even the Canadians have gotten around to registering bows and arrows yet.. A phone call to Canadian Customs should answer your question for sure, however..1 point

I can shoot 1" with my cheap ass savage 308, if I'm on a bench with sandbags. But that's not realistic at all so I shoot freehand and I'm happy with hitting a 6!inch target each shot at 100.1 point

I like my venison or beef medium rare, and of those, I definitely prefer venison if it is properly aged. The worse thing you can do with any red meat, especially venison is to overcook it. That should be a crime. I would rather eat it raw than overcooked. Those folks who like their meat well done would be better off sticking to pork, chicken, or turkey. Even fish is much better when it is not over cooked. I am getting hungry now for some lightly seared tenderloins. It has been almost 9 months since I sunk my teeth into some of those. Hopefully I will get some more of that in about a month.1 point

I know that fence, only one on L.I. lol LI deer size and age are deceiving. They are much older than they look. When checking in deer at the DEC station I'm always off by about 2 years. My brother shot a doe a couple of years ago that was 8-9 years old. You would of thought 3..Nice deer go get 'em!1 point
