  1. My sister bought me this ground blind at a garage sale a few weeks ago for $10. All the fiberglass rods to the hubs inside were shattered so it wouldn't stand on its own. 50' of rope and some make shift tent stakes got this baby hurricane proof in about 4 hours, lol It now has an interior sapling frame. Kind of a PITA to get it set up, but the effort was worth it for that price! Set on the edge of an old orchard for those wet icy days I wont climb into a stand. It's surprisingly roomy compared to my little dome pop up blind I used for turkey in the spring

  2. Perhaps we could.eliminate the need for big antlers if we just give everyone a participation trophy!

  4. IMO- woods and thickets are two entirely different things even when in full leaf. Thickness to me is within 1-8 ft of ground level and the forest canopy is everything above that. If I had to guess I'd say 90% of the antlers I find shed hunting come from "thickets" and not "thick forest". That's gotta tell you something right there. Post season bucks are still using those thickets for cover, food, and shelter, the same way they used them to survive the hunting season. Just because you hike in 2 miles to get to your remote hunting hidey hole don't mean jack if they're snuggling up in an overgrown blackberry thicket 100 yds out your back door on a daily basis. Learn to recognize the overlooked areas like that and you wont waste so much time in unproductive open timber areas when all the leaves drop.

  10. I agree with the above posts. You had no use for this forum or any other until you had an axe to grind ...and now all of a sudden your out to "help" all of us poor unsuspecting members. Please save it and the one sided sob story and do us a favor and go back where you came from.

  11. Geezz, is he even from NYS? He's just out to defame the company and is that fair? Should we get their side? Tons of information is missing here. Joining a bunch of sites just to crap on the outfitters name is pretty lame in my book.

  19. I would assume that buck is bedding in the swamp? Should be somewhat "easy" (relatively speaking) to get on him if he's doing any wind-based bedding or bedding in relation to food sources. He's not going to use a whole heck of a lot of paths in and out of the swamp based on whatever island(s) he beds on.

  20. Why didn't you call cops the first time?

  21. 85 yards should cover you. If a deer walks out at 100, just hold another foot and a half high. I'm personally tuned and sighted in for 150. But I only shoot 100 in an actual hunting situation. You never know if there is a twig 140 yards out that you might not see.

  22. They will be back. You need a security system, possibly something with a cellular connection so that it can contact you when it goes off so that you can catch them in the act.

  23. Call law enforcement...they may recover some of your property so it's important you report everything taken.

  24. Well, I hope no one is shocked to find out that our laws have become so complex that we all likely break several everyday without even realizing it. That is one of the reasons for my opposition to a lot of this constant nonsense about filling the law books even further every time somebody gets a brain-fart and thinks they have the next round of laws that will save the deer herd. Fact is that I would love to see the environmental conservation laws weeded out a bunch so people would have at least a slight chance of actually reading and understanding the laws that govern hunting, fishing, and trapping ad in fact every facet of our lives. Yup, your darned right there will be a bunch of people illegally bow hunting bucks in those few select areas. It may not be fully justified that hunters would be unaware of it, but realistically, we know that it will slip by a bunch of people. Yes, "Ignorance of the law is no excuse", but anyone who thinks that they have the entire contents of the volumes of laws committed to memory is a bit deluded. And if this "doe only" fiasco slips by a bunch of hunters, I can certainly see how that could happen and I fully expect that will happen.

  26. This is why I'd never invite someone to hunt the property I have access to. I don't care how good you think you are, or how good I tell you I am....sometimes the deer just aren't cooperating especially in such a narrow timeframe as a 3 day period. Some seasons it takes me weeks and months to have everything come together just right with a deer that I'm happy to kill. For someone to feel cheated even through a free offering would be insulting even though I did everything I could to get them a kill. Sucks you had to pay for it only to come home empty handed, but them's the breaks in deer huntin' when you start shelling out cash to hunt horns. Maybe spend more time trying to lock up a piece of property for yourself, and spend less cash expecting someone to make your dreams come true. Sorry- I'm sure that's NOT what you wanted to hear, but that's my take on this.

  27. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hunter-s-Specialties-Field-Dressing-Gloves-Combo-Pack/15111185 I use these. Dick's Sporting Goods or Wally World. Probably at more stores too. I want to get the gutting over a.s.a.p so I like these so I can cut and pull everything out faster. I put the used gloves inside out in the deer and dispose of later. Just make sure the short gloves are over the long gloves when you use them.About a dollar a pair.

  28. It made me check out their web page...I saw lots of nice pics but no review section...it states it has semi guided turkey and predator...but no mention of guided deer hunts..but listed prices for all...the trail cam pics looked great..suppose they could have been picked off the web but I won't speculate. As far as deleting or his first post...So what his first post was a vent about an out of state guide...he did everyone a service and them..... by getting ppl to at least take a look and decide for them selves...Geezz!

  31. I went down to my friend's property in Walworth this am and moved my 15' ladder stand . Getting a bit old for this . Need to do some minimal pruning for shooting lanes but the stand is a lot more secluded than where I previously had it . I will do the trimming in the next couple of days . I plan to stay away from there the 1st two weeks of bow season .

  32. I don't see a problem with locking up land as long as there are enough hunters hunting the property to be beneficial to the habitat as far as deer take and sound management... and although it is ones right to own 1000 acres and keep it only to oneself... it does an injustice to real deer management. In the same respect it would be an injustice to have too many hunters on a smaller habitat. It would be nice to somehow find a balance somewhere in between. I'm sure self proclaimed QDMers can fall into any one of those categories. Someone, or a group, not taking into account all aspects of a good Quality Deer Management program is not really a QDMer at all.

  33. I use scents off and on. Most often it is with a decoy setup now the 1 or 2x a year I use one. Every once in a great while I'll run a drag line when I feel the chasing is picking up. A buddy of mine seems to really like using them. I'd say the large majority of times, they haven't been a positive factor for me. A few times, scents seemed to have a positive impact. But, that's just my interpretation. The buck I shot last year was over a decoy with scent, but he had sight, sound, and scent trying to tease him to come into range. I should also clarify I'm using relatively fresh scent ordering it from the farm direct rather than your typical retailer stuff. I wouldn't cry if they outlawed it like in Virginia, but its just one of those tools that makes hunting interesting sometimes.

  34. I know where I hunt on state land there is to much hunting pressure for scents to work in my opinion.

  35. I just like to cover up my fingers, so I roll a condom on to each digit. I use the magnum sized ones for my wiener, so I need to use rubber bands to keep them snug on my fingers. I sometimes wish I were Italian and had the chubby fingers they have where I wouldn't need the rubber bands. Although with their short fingers the magnum sized condoms might be a bit too long in length. LOL

  41. Honestly, you are hunting near bean fields, and by the time gun season rolls around, those beans will most likely be gone. I hate to say it, but the deer are going to change their patterns on you big time as soon as the beans are harvested. You really should be looking around the area and figuring out what the food sources will be come gun season.

  45. If they do it every day and stay on leash and on a trail then ignore it deer will still move as normal. I have friends that walk dogs every day at any time on their property ( they don't hunt) they have given others permission to hunt but they don't because the dog screws them up... well I go in and shoot 120 class buck after they walk dog right behind their house maybe 70 yards from the back door. And everyone is surprised... big buck know where the dogs are and will cozy up just out of range of them. As they know hunters stay away..

Pack of hunters baby wipes. Snacks and water. First aid pouch ( knives and broadheads tend to be sharp) " survival pouch" fire starter, compass, knife, trash bag , 550 cord flashlight also tags, pens, zip ties go,in this. Ball cap if wearing watch cap, watch cap if wearing ball cap...... Tree stand seat cushion as I don't leave them on stands . And most important Atomic Fireballs!!!! On me at all times. Wallet, cell phone, flashlight tension relief strap, Spyderco knife clipped where I can reach it while hanging by harness ( tested this, harness does ride up and limit access you may have had)

  48. Here's what ya do: Scout the area and find some new sign, than take down and heft the stand to take advantage of the new scouting data. Then second guess yourself, begin to have doubts, and move the stand back to it's original position. That's what I like to do anyway.
