Been up since yesterday morning. Mom in hospital , ambulance picked her up at 11:30 pm last night. She's 89 and oxygen was low and slid off bed and couldn't get up. All good now and shipping her home soon. Cat scan , Eco , no pneumonia, no flu , all ok. Gets winded easily but this was more than usual. Just happy she looks and sounds 100% better. Had my dad here for same thing last week. Anyhow , found these neat life preservers in the bathroom. They think of everything here !!5 points

Yesterday my brother and I went out for the last day of duck hunting, and once again he shoots a Brant w/ 2 bands, one on each leg. Congrats to my "baby" bro. He did the same thing 2 seasons ago. The bird he shot was banded in 2010 in a place called Coral Harbor, Nunavut Canada. (Approx 1500 miles from Long Island) pretty cool4 points

Got into my stand early as i was hunting state land and it's first one in gets the spot....took a drag rag soaked in tinks.By 715...had only seen a small doe and squirrels. ..decided I would use my grunt call ...just lightly. I then checked my phone for peak times and it said 7:41 am til 10:50am....looked at clock on my phone and it read 7:41...IT WAS THEN....I heard a branch break directly behind me. . I slowly turned what seemed like forever to see antlers ..now I have to put my phone away and get my glasses on without this buck who is 10 yards behind me seeing any movement...I used the trunk of the tree for cover then clipped my release on my bow string and began slowly turning again.... He is looking for the grunt call he heard.. He starts to walk away quartering perfect at 15 yards ... I drew back my bow.. Picked my spot and waited and as he reached my spot I stopped him with a "mah"....released my arrow to see it hit him perfectly in the shoulder and he ran out of sight with the arrow sticking out just barely.... After an hour of waiting I got down and while searching for blood I heard someone say HEY...... I looked up and said where are you ? Another hunter waved his arm in a tree 60 yards away.... He says your deer is right in front of me where have you been come and get him...I jumped with exitement... Funny part was ...i never knew the other hunter was there he was a hunter from Maine who heard me stop the deer heard the bow release watch the deer run right towards him and died in front of him what an experience... Sorry so late with story4 points

Same people calling him a jackass are the same people that sit at the bar and say " The only way their getting my guns is from my cold dead hands" Please you wouldn't stick up for your mama lol. We are slowly losing grip on our rights and what our kids and their kids will have to live with is a real scary reality.3 points

Full disclosure: The info I get is from a friend of mine who is a 4th generation rancher in Idaho, just across the Oregon border. He has a number of friends and acquaintances in Oregon, and their concerns are very real. These folks are losing their livelihoods to an out-of-control Federal Government. Are these folks biased in their opinions? They most certainly are. Am I biased? I'm finding it difficult to not be biased, given the facts. It's not about "rancher welfare" or the maintenance of bird-watching sanctuaries. It's about a handful of people who wish to be kings, and a populace deciding whether they prefer servitude to citizenry.2 points

Was a beautiful day yesterday so I lit the coal. Wanted to work on my Riveting and mortises so I gave a candle holder a go. I had the glass sitting around the garage so I modeled it around that. It's about 12" tall for scale.2 points

I would love to know the facts and hope we will get them soon. Foiling the Police? You are smarter than that to think that would get you anything other than a target on your back. Is everyone that disagrees with you a blind follower or "zombie"? If so, what does that make the few that agree with you?2 points

I feel bad for the State Trooper who shot him, making him do that is bullshite. I dont know the officers political views, but most rural police are going to be pretty conservative. The politics aside, when you are pulled over, run from the police, are known to be armed, and there is a warrant out for your arrest, I think you should comply, then take it up in court. Every LEO would be shouting at this guy to get on the ground, that is how they are trained. As a cop, you are not there to negotiate anything, you are there to effect an arrest. You dont wait once those hands go down. Much to dangerous. (Obviously)2 points

NYS , assisted opening ( spring assist) knives are legal , there are no blade length state laws, fixed blades can be open carried and butterfly or balisong are legal as well. That said there is massive confusion by many in law enforcement on what is what, and in NYC if they see your pocket clip will examine the knife and if the cop or the third one to try can get it to "flip " open using a large amount of inertia they call it a gravity knife and say that's then illegal . Lol a gravity knife opens by surprise gravity, it's an out the front knife that open when turn upside down , they were originally made for paratroopers , to cut free Of lines. No motion needed to open other than tipping upside down. All assisted opening ( spring assist ) ,and one hand opening via, studs, holes and waves have a bias towards saying closed in all positions . I've read NYS penal law many times, written articles for Blade, and Tactical Gear magazines , belong to a knife rights org. and sharpen the knives of many in law enforcement as well as always showing and comparing our knives when we meet on jobs. Not that I'm always 100% right and trust me your local cop is not always good source of knife law. I know guys with boxes of knives they've taken off people on the street , almost are of them are legal to,own and carry . By the way the lawsuit against NYC and their out right deceitfull knife laws seems that it might go our way. Nypd does it largely to inflate their arrest numbers concerning weapons Taken off the street , by arresting artists and stagehands for carrying their work tools, mostly folding razor knives in their case. Here's a piece explaining spring assist vs switchblades ( know as automatics in the knife world). Pay attention to the end where they talk about NYC ,spring assist are illegal there because ALL lock backs that can be flipped open are . http://www.wildbillwholesale.com/whisdibeswan.html1 point

This is a shorten version of the input letter I sent to the DEC. 1: mandatory reporting on all tags weather it’s used or unused for three years. With the penalty for not reporting a tag being lost of that privilege for the next year and you don’t find out till after you paid for that tag. This plan would do 2 things. It would validate the DEC modeling plan for the deer harvest and double the reporting rate. 2: no antler restrictions without a vote of hunters at the time of licenses purchase and a hunter can put his vote to the WMU he hunts in it doesn’t have to go in the WMU he lives. 3: keep the 2 buck limit but you have to turn in your first tag to get the second tag and that tag has up to a 4pt on one side minimum 4: even though I don’t use one make the use of cross – bows legal though the whole bow season. 5: extend the late bow season in the southern zone to the first Wednesday after New Years This is not in order of preference.1 point

Barrels were being made way before the 19th century W/O lathes on forges where an iron strap was forge welded around a mandrel. The welded barrel blank was reamed until the bore was round then hand rifled with spiral guide whittled from wood. Beretta is the oldest manufacture of firearms on earth having started out making barrels in 1526, most likely smooth bores in the early days..Shotgun barrels were made by forge welding twisted wire around a mandrel. This is how a 'Damascus" barrel is made. In "Foxfire 5" it goes through every step required to make a muzzleloading rifle by hand forging all the parts. It also details how to lay out & make the "rifling roll". Basically one uses a chalk line laid out at an angle using the diameter of the wooden pole & the rate of twist. The pole is rolled over the chalk line leaving the spiral chalk line mark. The difficulty in building the gun that is the subject of this thread would be in making the complex shapes of the cylinder, receiver, etc. Around the middle part of the 19th century, arms makers like Colt, Spencer, etc started using some pretty sophisticated machinery. The stock duplicating machines were a wonder in themselves. The "primitive" aspect of their machinery was more related to how it was driven than capability. Until steam power became prevalent, water power was used W/complicated power transmission belts, pulleys, gears etc. I will try to find some images on how the hand rifling fixtures are made.1 point

I don't know what kind of shop equipment was even available in the late 1800's, early 1900's. What was the Colt or Remington factory using in those days? I'm genuinely curious here if you have info. A barrel requires a fairly precise lathe, for sure, but could have been "outsourced" by the maker. Other than that; a forge and casting setup (maybe), a solid drill press with tooling, a good assortment of files and hand tools, and a lot of patience and skill.1 point

I have a Kershaw clipped inside my pocket at all times and a baseball bat in the car....because I love baseball of course. Never know when you might want to knock a few balls around the park.1 point

I don't understand your confusion. Drive down any country road and eventually you'll come upon field upon field where all the red neck needs to do is pull over, rest the rifle on the door window and take a 200 to 300 yard shot to poach a deer. Not many guys doing that with 9mm glocks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

Look the guy that the establishment most marginalizes and demonizes is right on yet another issue. There are only two candidates even worth considering. Trump or Sanders. All the rest are establishment hacks bought and paid for by the oligarchy. http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/hunting/2016/01/qa-donald-trump-on-guns-hunting-and-conservation?dom=fas&loc=contentwell&lnk=qa-donald-trump-on-guns-hunting-and-conservation1 point

your right, its a good natural food plot. Its not the best soil so i think the first yrs will focus on soil building then id like to transition to soybeans and seed over them in late summer with another blend of something late season. Always wanted to try beans. I can get cheap corn thru NWTF but its such a drain on nutrients.1 point
